1.Reach for fluids. As with any illness, staying hydrated is your first line of defense against coughing. If your cough stems from a dry throat, a little hydration might be all you need. Even if your cough is caused by something else, drinking plenty of fluids is never a bad idea 2 Make the fluids warm. For certain coughs, such as ones caused by congestion or sinus drainage, warm liquids can be even more effective than cold or room temperature ones. 3.Try saltwater. Particularly in cases of cold- or flu-related coughs, salt water is your friend. 4.Consider steam — in some cases. Conventional wisdom often dictates that steam from a shower or a humidifier can help combat a cough; however, that’s only the case if your cough is due to dry air. If you’re coughing because of congestion, asthma, dust mites, or mold, among other causes, moist air could actually make your cough worse. 5.Stay upright. Being horizontal can cause mucus to drain into your throat. When sleeping with a cough, for example, you should prop up your head with pillows to prevent sinus drainage from pooling in your throat, causing you to cough. 6.Keep the air clean. Stay away from dirty air, including cigarette smoke. Particulates in the air could either be the source of your cough or worsen one that has other causes. Strong fragrances, such as perfumes, can cause some people to cough, even if they’re not irritating to others 7.Keep the air still. Avoid wind, ceiling fans, heaters, and air conditioners, because moving air can make coughs worse FOR MEDICATION CONSULT ONLINE IN PRIVATE.

My son is 6+ years old. From last 2 months he has developed few motor tics like stretching his eyebrows and eyes upwards and stretching his mouth wide open. What should I do. Which Dr. should I consult. Neurologist or psychiatrist?

BHMS
Homeopath, Chennai
A tic is a sudden, involuntary, repetitive motor movement or vocalization involving distinct muscle groups. Motor tics can include eye blinking, nose crunching, pulling at clothes or touching others.  Vocal tics can include clearing one’s throat, expressing simple sounds or uttering socially unacceptable words.  While the exact cause is unknown, it is believed that tics are triggered by abnormal neurotransmitters within the brain – namely chemical messengers dopamine, serotonin and cyclic adenosine monophosphate. Tic disorders occur along a spectrum, ranging from mild to severe, and are classified according to duration and severity: 1) Simple or Transient tics; 2) Chronic tics; and 3) Tourette syndrome. If you are suffering from tic disorders, headaches or anxiety, homeopathy offers solutions.   A homeopathic remedy is prescribed based on your unique symptoms, feelings and experiences.  This remedy resonates with the energetic vibration of your illness and sets you on your path to recovery. Homoeopathy is the most popular holistic systems of medicine and a constitutional homoeopathic treatment will cure him permanently You can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance

This is for my daughter who is 1 month old. She was born 2.5 kg. Her weight hasn't increased much since then. She drinks Nan Excella Pro and does not feed on breast milk at all. I am concerned about her weight. What should I do?

Best way is to feed exclusively on breast for six months. But when not possible, such a situation arises and is related to feeding difficulties faced by mothers. The concentration of the milk has to be proper. One level spoon per 30 ml. Quantity fed has to be adequate about 100 ml per kg. This needs to be supervised properly by the treating pediatrician by way of regular follow up clinical examinations. If still child has fails to gain weight, then failure to thrive needs further clinical and diagnostic evaluation.

Vitamin d deficiency historically has been defined as a blood level of 25hydroxyvitamind below 25nmol/l. There is scientific debate about the optimal vitamin d blood level. Current practice in the uk, as recommended by the british paediatric and adolescent bone group, is to continue to use that as the defined level of deficiency, and to define? insufficiency? as between 25 and 50nmol/l. Some laboratories and authorities use higher levels but this current practice is based on robust evidence of benefits to bone health when levels are more than 50nmol/l. Vitamin d deficiency can cause seizures and cardiomyopathy in infants, rickets and poor growth in children and muscle weakness at any age. Need to discuss more details, you are free to ask privately in ask privately option with, birth and development history and complaints which made you test for d levels. Mention your name and mail id with phone no. I am thinking of writing an article on vitamin d deficiency among other deficiency states and diseases. You can read them in health tips there is already an article in diseases category by me.

One year old child really needs good training, support and patience to learn table manners, I mean food habits. Make meal time and food interesting. Avoid tv, mobiles and tabs during meal time. Include everything in his diet gradually in small amounts as required.

Take the baby and the mother to the nearest PEDIATRICIAN. They will teach the breastfeeding position and breast related issues if any. Usually occurs after the 1st delivery. Remember mother milk is best for the baby and there is no substitute.. Formula feeds are last in worst case scenario. Why we presses more because mother milk has both short term and long term good effect. You can google it online.
