Massage with your thumbs from the mid points of the shoulder blades on both sides towards the lower back of your head up to lower level of the ears. Use oil or water for massage. Rotate your head clockwise and anticlockwise, forward and down, left and right a few times. Do for 5 to 10 times morning and evening. Give pressure the dipping point on the portion between the thumb and the index finger on the back of the palm. Press and release for 15 times where the pain is more. This will solve the problem. Further do some wrist rotation exercise. Consult after 5 days. For further guidance and treatment.

Hello Sir, I am a 28 years old female suffering from acute neck and back pain from last 4 years. I have gone through several MRI’s and - which shows cervical disc bulges and degeneration in lumbar and thoracic spine. All my blood tests for HLA B-27, RA factor, Anti CCP, CRP, ENA profile comes out to be negative. Also, physiotherapy does not help at all. Last year, I started feeling pain in lower back which showed annular tear at L5-S1. I was put on pain killers and tryptomer, nortriptyline several times in these 4-5 years. They gave me just temporary relief. My whole back pains a lot and I too feel severe morning stiffness and last year I had a viral fever after that I started getting pain and numbness in hands and feet. Before that I was not having any problem and stiffness in my hands and feet. I checked with a number of doctors who are unable to diagnose the exact reason of my problem. Also, by god grace for the past 3-4 months after a period of break from office and some ayurvedic medicines I was completely relieved from pain and stiffness. I was leading an active life from February 2017-April 2017 without any painkillers and any other allopathic medicines. But suddenly from past 10 days I started feeling acute pain in whole body, back and lower back, hips. 3 months without any medicine and pain and again I am suffering with so much pain and stiffness that I am not able to do daily activities. All the doctors I visited including a known rheumatologist in Delhi saw my reports, MRI etc few months back ruled out any big disease like RA, AS etc. But now pain has come after 3-4 months and this time my lower back, and hips are hurting too much. Please seek your advice as my marriage is getting fixed soon. Last year also, my marriage got cancelled due to the pain and uncertainty that what it could be and again this is happening. Please help.

Hi, Good that the arthritis is ruled out through lab investigation reports. The pain appears could be due to soft tissue damages like muscle stress, myalgia. Further the muscle spasm at the level of spine may cause pressure to tissues in between lead to IVDP kind of situation. Confirm you are not over weight and do regular soft exercises like walking 3 kilometers in 30 minutes at a stretch. Myalgia may caused due to mental stress, dehydration, cold exposure, wrong postures and few deficiencies of Vitamine D or B12. The cramps may aggravate during menstrual periods. Ayurveda treatments like oil application, navarakizhi etc are very helpful.

Why Do You Need Knee Replacement?

DNB Orthopaedics
Orthopedist, Kolhapur
Why Do You Need Knee Replacement?

Knee replacement is a surgery wherein an artificial joint is used to replace a diseased, damaged or worn out knee. This surgery is common among people who fall in the age group of 60-80, but recent trends seem to suggest that younger people are opting for this surgery as well. The lifetime of the artificial knee joint is around 20 years, provided the knee is well cared for.

Why do you need knee replacement?

Most common reason is “high grade osteoarthritis” due to wear and tear of the knee joint. The pre-hospital study of the Knee joint is mandatory and would decide what kind of Replacement is suitable to the patient. If there is diabetes or hypertension associated with this, then it should be controlled well before undergoing surgery. Hemoglobin of at least 10 gm% is required.

If the mobility in your knee joint is reduced leading to impaired functioning of the knee joint, then you might need a knee replacement surgery. You may experience pain while walking, sitting and, in some cases, resting as well.

Some of the common reasons why you may opt for this particular surgery are:

  1. Gout, where, small crystals are formed inside the joint.
  2. Rheumatoid Arthritis, an autoimmune disorder, wherein the immune system of the body attacks the body’s healthy tissues.
  3. Hemophilia, wherein, the blood ceases to clot normally.
  4. Injuries to the knee.
  5. Disorders that cause unusual bone growth (bone dysplasias).
  6. Death of bone in the knee joint following blood supply problems (avascular necrosis).
  7. Knee deformity with pain and loss of cartilage.
  8. Unusual growth of bones in the knee joint.

Knee replacement surgery is classified into:

  1. Partial Knee Replacement: In this surgery, only one part of the joint is replaced.
  2. Total Knee Replacement: Total knee replacement surgery involves replacement of both sides of the knee joint.

The usual hospital stay period is around 2-3 days after the surgery is completed. Initially, you will require the help of crutches to walk for at least 2 months. You may also be asked to do gentle knee strengthening exercises. It may take up to 3 months to recover completely from a knee replacement surgery. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Reports cannot be 100 % diagnostic of nay rheumatic disease. You have to see patients complaints and then decide treatment. Arthritis can be of 100 types. Ra is just one arthritis. Also your ra factor is not vey high.

I am 24 year old I have some pain in my back bond can you suggest me why this doing n what is this treatment?
Hello, first of all you should know what is backache and by which factors it caused and aggravated. The usual cause of low back pain is the sedentary lifestyle that we lead these days. There is hardly any movement. walking, running and cycling like activities are also not a part of our daily routine. To add to it, our diet consists more and more of junk food. Fresh fruits, vegetables and high fibre foods are consumed less and less. These daily practices lead to obesity. The increased body weight puts lot of pressure on the spine which has to bear all the extra unwanted weight. The back muscles which are already weak due to lack of exercise and wrong posture are unable to cope with this increased load. This causes pain in the back muscles. Management for Back Pain:-Along with medicines for relieving pain, one needs to identify the cause and correct it. This may require some medicines or some correction in your posture or reducing weight or improving your lifestyle. At the same time, there is a need to work on the local muscle strengthening. Back muscles need to be strengthened so that they can bear the weight of the upper body. For this exercises of the back muscles are very helpful. Regular walking is also very helpful as it is a wholesome exercise of the body, improves blood circulation and helps lose weight. Most importantly if you are overweight then losing weight is an important part of the whole treatment plan .Long term use of painkillers for low back pain is harmful. Treatment for back pain:- Homeopathic medicines are very helpful. They not only treat the acute stages but are also used for the treatment of chronic back pain.Selection of the exact remedy depends upon the individual symptoms of the person. So share the complete symptom picture for the proper treament. In the mean time take Arnica 200, 3 drops in the morning and Rhus tox. 200, 3 drops at night for 7 days.Take care.

Hi consult a knee surgeon who does arthroscopic meniscal repair. In my opinion, rest is better instead of physiotherapy as of now to lessen pain and inflammation. Quadriceps drill alone should be done under guidance to prevent wasting of surrounding muscle, quadriceps. Take anti inflammatory meds for 7 to 10 days, use knee brace for support and use english commode in toilet for prevention of knee bending. All this for 2 weeks. Knee surgeon may help with repair if he finds that necessary best wishes.
