Colic Pain - How To Treat It

Fellowship in Andrology, DNB-Urology , MS - General Surgery, MBBS

Colic Pain - How To Treat It

The word colic directly refers to the colon. Colic pain is a sharp abdominal pain followed by bouts of crying usually occurring in infants below the age of one year. The pain only last for a short period of time ranging from a few weeks to a couple of months. Very few number of babies will cry endlessly indicating towards an underlying condition.

It is mainly characterized by sharp crying for supposedly no apparent reason, irregular sleep patterns, and restlessness or owing to deviation from normal postures. The apparent causes of colic pain include indigestion and negative reaction of the sensitive gut to the breast or formula milk, although no concrete cause of the state has been discovered.

Doctors often suggest home remedies such as swaddling, pacifiers, holding and comforting the baby and more frequent feedings to reduce the condition. Since it is so common among infants and relatively less harmful, no proper medication is usually given. Physicians suggest mothers to reduce the content of caffeine, alcohol or spice in their diet. Sometimes a warm bath, burping the baby or going on more frequent walks is useful. Background music draws the attention of the baby and hence drives their focus, away from the abdominal pains.

Colic pains are mainly treated by care rather than medicine. The baby is made to feel comfortable and the distress is reduced just by being around the infant. The primary care giver plays an important role in consoling the child and helping them get through the sudden pain which further plays a significant role in personality development. Colic pains are extremely short lived and probably one of the first few challenges of parenthood. They are primarily dealt with care and feeding except in extreme cases where medicinal cures such as lactase drops and simethicone drops are used to treat the abdominal pain. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Hi, you have the problem of chronic gastritis as per the symptoms that you have described, though is better to once diagnose the exact problem by taking a consultation of gastroenterolgist. If you already have diagnosis with you then kindly disclose it so that I can guide you more appropriately. Moreover whatever the final diagnosis may be as per your symptoms you will be always prescribed medicines like omeprazole and its similar compositions which may help you temporarily but will not cure, also long term gastritis may lead to deeper and serious complaints like gastric ulcer and similar which then takes longer time to get treated, it is better to intervene as early as possible. Homeopathy can help you to cure this problem permanently after proper case taking. Meanwhile you can make little lifestyle and dietary changes as follows: 1. Drink plenty of water, fruits and salads. 2. Avoid non-vegetarian food as much as possible and strict no to red meat. 3. Dont remain hungry for too long, keep taking frequent small meals rather that overloading your stomach after long gaps. 4. Dont drink cold water during and after meals as it slows down digestion process. Drink half to 1 glass of normal water during meals and after meals dont drink water for atleast 1 hour and still if you want you can take lukewarm water after meals. 5. Keep an interval of at least 2 hours between your dinner and retiring to bed. 6. Avoid excessive spicy, fried and fatty food. 7 do exercises like brisk morning walk or evening walk before dinner, if after dinner, then walk after 1-to 1.5 hours, do not walk immediately after meals.

You need to take medicines that can help in removing them naturally such as our medicines combination of herbal and homeo that will help in removing stones. Gall bladder gets diseased due to an unhealthy diet and lifestyle. This leads to an imbalance of the acid-alkali balance in the body which causes the cholesterol to precipitate in the gall bladder leading to stone formation. Over time, these may get infected and lead to an acute inflammation, pain, fever etc. A stone may move ahead into a narrow passage or the duct and get stuck leading to severe agony. The safest and way that should be used to remove gallstones is removing it naturally, not just remove gallstones from gallbladder but also remove the cause of gallstones.

Hello doctor I want to improve my digestion.

Common digestive diseases that can cause indigestion include: acid reflux disease (also called gerd) gastric cancer. Pancreatic or bile duct abnormalities. Peptic ulcers (sores in the lining of the stomach and esophagus caused by the h. Pylori bacteria) the best way to prevent indigestion is to avoid the foods and situations that seem to cause it. Keeping a food diary is helpful in identifying foods that cause indigestion. Here are some other suggestions: eat small meals so the stomach does not have to work as hard or as long. Eat slowly. Avoid foods that contain high amounts of acids, such as citrus fruits and tomatoes. Reduce or avoid foods and beverages that contain caffeine. If stress is a trigger for your indigestion, learn new methods for managing stress, such as relaxation and biofeedback techniques. If you smoke, consider quitting, or at least not smoking right before or after eating, as smoking can irritate the stomach lining. Cut back on alcohol consumption, because alcohol can irritate the stomach lining. Avoid wearing tight-fitting garments, because they tend to compress the stomach, which can cause its contents to enter the esophagus. Don't exercise with a full stomach. Rather, exercise before a meal or at least one hour after eating a meal. Don't lie down right after eating. Wait at least three hours after your last meal of the day before going to bed. Sleep with your head elevated (at least 6 inches) above your feet and use pillows to prop yourself up. This will help allow digestive juices to flow into the intestines rather than to the esophagus.

Don't strain at stool. Drink 3 litres of water per day eat high roughage food apply ruticool cream locally thrice a day if no relief. Check with a general surgeon. Its always best to have a proper check up ad such things (? piles) may be indication of some internal health problems.

Before I had a treatment with Cipralex drops for irritable bowel and took 7 drops in the evening before going to bed but the neurologist told me to take them off because they could be the cause of expansion but the fact is that I have always these problems . What may be somebody can tell me? I am very worried.

Hello from about 2 months I have strong vertigo that do not even sleep well . I've noticed that I also dilated pupils...
There are 2 main causes for vertigo. 1) diseases of the ear 2) diseases of the brain. Diseases of the ear causing vertigo are bppv (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), meniere's disease, labyrinthitis, trauma to the inner ear, toxicity due to medicines. These diseases can occur at any age and are usually associated with nausea and vomiting. Examination by an ent doctor will help to come to a diagnosis. Diseases of the brain causing vertigo are bleeding or interrupted blood supply to the cerebellum (area of the brain responsible for balance) and its connections, tumours. These conditions are commonly seen in elderly and are not associated with nausea and vomiting. They can be ruled out by mri. I hope this answered your question. Let me know if you have any other specific questions. Regards,
