Garlic

Garlic also helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels in diabetic people, thanks to its anti-diabetic and hypolipidemic properties. It contains sulfur compounds that protect against oxidative damage and even high cholesterol.

According to a 2011 study published in the Pakistan Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, garlic supplementation with standard anti-diabetic agent provides better blood sugar control in Type 2 diabetics.

A 2014 study published in the Journal of Diabetes & Metabolic Disorders suggests that garlic can help treat diabetes and related cardiovascular diseases.
•Eat 2 or 3 raw garlic cloves daily on an empty stomach.
•Also, include garlic in your cooking or take a supplement after consulting a doctor.

lybrate-user, When on treatment for hypothyroidism, to be free from all the symptoms TSH level should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L. If hat is not achieved, then most symptoms do reappear. So please check the TSH level and if it is higher then see that it is brought to above mentioned range. That will in overcoming most symptoms. Thanks.

What is the symptoms of diabetes in 3 year old kids? Does dark circle around the eyes is the symptom of diabetes?
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. The symptoms of T1 diabetes are Increased thirst and frequent urination. Excess sugar building up in your child's bloodstream pulls fluid from tissues. Extreme hunger, Weight loss, Fatigue, Irritability or behavior changes, Fruity-smelling breath, Blurred vision & Yeast infection. But best is do a blood test and check the glucose level, that will clear the doubt. Thanks.

Hello, It is not safe for you to give your father alcohol deaddiction medicine. This should be prescribed by the doctor after he has seen your father and examined him. The dose would depend on the amount of alcohol he is consuming, the type of alcohol and since long he is consuming alcohol. Further, some of these medicines may have side effects and it is important for your father/family to be aware of the possible side effects so that you could seek help incase he gets those side effects. Also the doctor can motivate your father to give up alcohol. He may also be given some motivational therapy/behavioural therapy so that he can abstain from alcohol once the course of medicines is completed. So kindly take him to a doctor who deals with deaddictions. Hope this helps you. Wishing you and your family all the best. Thank you.

Hello, His BP has to be closely monitored and so his sodium levels. I think the physician whom you consult should be either change the medicine or the dosage golf the medicines, due to flactuating sodium levels. He should avoid any sort of stress and anxiety. Over exercise can also harm. Seek a second opinion.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. It is good to know that with diet control and exercise you have been able to control the blood glucose and bring it back to normal. It is difficult to say whether your diabetes has gone away or not. It is better for you to continue the same way of life. If you start consuming potato, sugar again then blood glucose levels may increase. If you feel you may occasionally take those things. Thanks.

Please kindly give me the list of foods and fruits that can be had in thyroid and diabetes. Does yoga help to cure.

Please kindly give me the list of foods and fruits that can be had in thyroid and diabetes. Does yoga help to cure.
You should avoid sugars, solid fats, fruit juices or cold drinks, refined cereals like maida if you have diabetes. Don't have too much of rice and suji, fruits like banana, chickoo, litchi, grapes and mangoes and vegetables like aloo, arbi etc you can include plenty of vegetables (other than patatoes, sweet patatoes etc) and healthy proteins in diet like eggs, chicken, fish or roasted chana, dals etc. For thyroid you need to take care of foodstuffs with goitrogens. Goitrogens are substances that disrupt the production of thyroid hormones by interfering with iodine uptake in the thyroid gland. So, avoid peanuts and soyabean if you have hypothyroidism. Don't have too much of cauliflower, broccoli or any other cruciferous veg etc too yes, yoga might help in throid.

I, aged 66 years, diabetic and also postural hypertension feeling giddiness most of the time, although, on medicines prescribed by a recognised military hospital.Feeling fast loosing energy, tiredness all the time, panting, already angiography done a year ago with 40% blockage, little over weight.Cant I be treated permanently for diabetes?

MBBS, DGO (cal)
General Physician,
In the treatment of diabetes there no concept of temporary or permanent. You shall have to monitor and continue treatment. Angio report is not at all bad. Brisk walking and medical supervision can take care of it. Better loose those extra Kgs by walking briskly daily. Exercise shall increase your energy and fitness level. Take some fresh fruit regularly, which are not very sweet. Can take a apple a day. It contain high fibre. Only liquid fibre containing fruit so far I know. Papya is good. Nuts are good for you - contains lots of antioxidants. Increase your protein intake either from animal or vegetable source depending on your dietary habit. Sleep tight for at least 8 hours at night. For your Postural Hypotension, Only follow these. Your above practice shall bring down the problem though. 1) Don't start walking after rising from horizontal position. Sit for a minute if no black out start walking. 2) Don't stand in a place for long time or take care while rise from squatting position suddenly. 3) If any time you have a black-out bend forward or sit and bend down your head at or at lower level to heart. And wait till black-out is cleared. It shall take a few seconds. I shall appreciate your feedback.

yes both are same. In hypothyroidism:-- where there is deficiency of thyroxine hormone leading to sluggishness, tired feeling, weight increase, slow heart beats, intolerance to cold, swelling of legs, feet and face, difficulty in concentrating and at times in speech. Treatment for hypothyroidism is giving thyroxine tablets. And dose are according to level of thyroid for life time. Avoid bad habits . Avoid stress. Some Relax during work. Go for walk, Take plenty of water, high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. Nutrient-rich foods that improve your health may also benefit your thyroid gland, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables more plenty of water: Blueberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and other foods rich in antioxidants can improve overall health and benefit the thyroid gland. Eating foods high in B vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. flax oil, Selenium: Tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Eating selenium-rich foods, such as sunflower seeds or Brazil nuts, can be beneficial. Tyrosine: This amino acid is used by the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4. Taking a supplement may help, avoid oily foods, junk foods, go for walk. Do Tests every 3 to 6 months. And consut doctor on time.

Hi, You haven't mentioned your body weight and your profession. You are suffering from impaired glucose tolerance. So if you keep your body weight in normal range and eat diet rich in fiber, do regular exercises you may keep your sugar levels in normal range. Its a progressive disease one day things will reach to stage that you will have to take medicine. In case if you are a case of diabetes type one that means you will need insulin to control your sugar. Those patient who are type one diabetes they may loose weight due to deficiency of insulin. Actually your doctor should measure your insulin levels.
