I am 58 years old. I was having a calculus of 4 mm in my bladder. Yesterday it moved out while passing urine. After that I am having severe back and centre stomach pain. And also continues loose motion. I took ciplox tz and lm has stopped. I tested urine and blood but no infection. Two days back I ate barotta and egg curry at night. That didn't get digested. Now the pain is untolerable. The doctor advised to take plenty of oral fluids. Please advise.

What to do for hyperthyroidism?

Hyperthyroidism means increased activity of one's thyroid gland, which produces excess thyroxine hormone leading to increased metabolic rate, heart rate goes up, weight loss may occur etc. The treatment is to either take anti thyroid medications (thiouracil) or radio active iodine. Radio active iodine is taken up by the gland its function is stopped. Later patient has to take thyroxine tables to meet the needs of that hormone.

Thyroid Dysfunction and Treatment

M.D.(A.M.), BAMS
General Physician
Ask Free Question
Your thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland situated at the base of the front of your neck, just below your adam's apple. Hormones produced by the thyroid gland do everything from maintaining your heart rate to regulating your body temperature to controlling your body weight.
Millions of people worldwide suffer from thyroid dysfunction and several don't know about it. This is primarily because people don't tend to link the common symptoms first with a thyroid disease. Some people suffer from mood swings, trouble with memory, weight gain or fatigue, all of which they look upon individually as a problem and hence not piecing together the puzzle of their real medical condition. Here are a few insights that'll help you cope:
How does the thyroid gland work?
About 85% of the hormone produced by our thyroid gland is t4, which is an inactive form of the hormone. After t4 is made, a small amount of is converted into t3, which is the active form of thyroid hormone. T3 is then converted to free t3 or reverse t3. It is the free t3 that forms the base of thyroid functions.
What is hypothyroidism?
Hypothyroidism, or an underactive thyroid, accounts for 90% of all thyroid imbalances. The signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism develop slowly, often over a number of years, which is why it is often missed from regular treatment charts. For instance, fatigue and weight gain are often attributed to stress, lifestyle changes and natural ageing process. But as time goes by, some of the symptoms show a higher level of manifestation like muscle weakness, elevated blood cholesterol, thinning hair, puffy face, hoarse voice and slowed heart rate.
If left untreated, hypothyroidism may lead to goiter (enlarged thyroid), increased memory problems, low blood pressure, decreased breathing and in extreme cases, unresponsiveness and coma.
This disease may also occur in newborns, infants and children. Symptoms include excessive sleepiness, poor muscle tone and constipation. It is important to diagnose and treat it early, as in severe cases it may lead to mental and / or physical retardation. In children and teens, it can result in stunted growth, and delayed puberty.
What is hyperthyroidism?
It's the opposite of hypothyroidism, which means in this case the thyroid overproduces hormones. Common symptoms include lack of sleep, weakness, irregular heartbeat, elevated blood pressure and hand tremors. While genetics are partially responsible for it, it is also triggered by autoimmune disorder. Hyperthyroidism can be treated with medication, radioactive iodine (not the first or best choice as it harms white cells too) and surgery. Keeping a focus on your calcium and sodium intake is crucial to curb the disorder.
Treatments:
Conventional treatments rely mainly on drugs and surgery. Alternative treatments involve diet and lifestyle changes. Taking multivitamins, going gluten free, getting a good night sleep, and reducing stress is all said to help heal your thyroid gradually.

The thyroid means a gland producing a hormone called thyroxine, which is essential for maintaining our normal metabolic activities. There are two different conditions that occur in this gland 1) hypothyroidism where thyroxine secretion is inadequate, leading to weight increase, feeling cold, sluggishness, tiredness, difficulty in speech, swelling of face and legs even neck. The gland size may become bigger etc. This is more common in women. 2) hyperthyroidism where the gland activity become more than normal, thyroxine levels go up, causing increased heart rate, weight loss, excessive sweating, eyes may appear protruding and enlarged, diarrhae, intolerance to heat, sleeping problems, skin in shin area may thicken etc.

I want to know the main symptoms of thyroid .which commonly seen in all thyroid all thyroid patents. And want to know something in detail about thyroid.

lybrate-user, Thyroid is the normal gland present in all of us. It produces thyroxine hormone, essential for development & day to day functioning of brain, for all the vital metabolic activities in the body. Deficiency of the hormone causes hypothyroidism where patient experiences weight gain, tiredness, early fatigue, slow heart rate, dry skin. Dry hair and hair fall, irregular menstruation, infertility, joint pains, mood swings, depression etc. Hyperthyroidism causes loss of weight, anxiety, increased heart rate, palpitation, sleeplessness, etc. Getting a thyroid assay will help in knowing whether thyroid is functioning normally or not. Thanks.

Many patients see improvement or complete reduction of many symptoms with conservative measures which can be tried at home. Warm baths bathing in tubs with warm water alleviates pain and severity of piles. Ice can also relieve the pain of acute thrombosis. The sitz bath can be tried for symptom relief. Sitz bath is done by sitting in a bowl of warm water to which salt is added. It is usually done for about 20 to 30 minutes twice or thrice a day. High fiber diet a high fiber diet includes more than 25 g of fiber per day. Many hemorrhoidal symptoms reduce when dietary changes are made. Addition of fiber supplements to already existing diet is a good plan. Toilet habit retraining and stool softeners patients should sit on the toilet seat only for the time required to evacuate the lower bowels. Persistent straining or prolonged sitting can lead to increased size of hemorrhoids. Stool softeners can be taken to soften stools if there is hard stools which can cause undue straining while going to toilet. Topical agents topical ointments and creams can be used to decrease itching and inflammation. Topical hydrocortisone can reduce some symptoms of piles but prolonged use is not recommended. Adequate water intake. Patients suffering from hemorrhoids should take adequate amounts of water which can ease the passage of stools.

Although extremely elevated ferritin levels may be associated with rheumatologic diseases, more often they are found in patients with other conditions such as malignancy or infection. In addition, extremely high ferritin levels can be found in patients with seemingly indolent disease or levels of chronic inflammation.

I m thyroid (tsh more now in control) last 4 year my weight is gaining also menses problems.
It is always challenging to lose weight with thyroid disorder. Most people who are fat are made to feel that it is because you lack will power, you are lethargic and a weak person. But that is definitely not true. It is your your hormones which have made you fat and keeping you fat. Unless we make correct diagnosis and and create a diet and lifestyle plan to correct that hormonal abnormalities you will not be able to lose weight for long term. Most diet fails because they are low calorie and low fat. Instead of correcting metabolism, they make you feel low energy or makes you feel excessively hungry. To achieve weightloss - think long term. Weight loss achieved over short term, always comes back. There is a general approach and a specific approach as per individual patients metabolic profile. Try this general approach (see below) for 4 weeks. If this works then continue. If this is not enough then revert for further assessment and customised approach. With customised lifestyle modification approaches, people over 100-150 kg are also losing weight for long term. 1. Do not eat anything sugary or sweet. Zero sweetness in diet. 2. Eat plenty of salad in lunch and dinner along with other foods. 3. Do not drink any liquid calorie like cola or fruit juices. 4. Go for brisk walks or jogging for 45 minutes every day. Best wishes.
