Hi! Good evening sir / madam suffering from thyroid problem this week I tested TSH value 7.70 so which tablet I have to use? How much mg tablet?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr Mohiuddin, Thanks for the query. I think this question is with regard to your wife, if so you should have provided her height and weight. That would have given some idea as to whether she is overweight or obese. Giving your details has no meaning. TSH 7.7 mU/L is above normal, but falls in the subclinical stage. That normally is not treated unless there are specific symptoms related to hypothyroidism. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Your thyroid report suggests that there is hypothyroidism. This needs regular treatment with levothyroxine tablets and control the TSH level. Thanks.

Hernia surgery these days are best done by laparoscopically. You need to enquire about surgeon doing laparoscopically. If you can come to Delhi then you can visit Pelvinic.

What does HIGH TSH mean before radio active iodine therapy? And why high TSH required before the RAI therapy? Can we use normal non iodized salt in diet before RAI Therapy?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
High TSH indicates loss of the thyroid hormone and you can use normal non iodized salt in diet before RAI Therapy

Thyroid produces t3, t4 and calcitonin for calcium absorption. My gland is attacked by immune system and producing nill of these. I'm on eltroxin now, thyroid hormones are replaced orally, what about calcitonin? Some doctors say it will be corrected by replacing thyroid hormones itself, how?it us a different entity right?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr Rakesh, Thanks for the query. In autoimmune thyroiditis(Hashimoto's Thyroiditis), thyroid secreting cells are affected, leading to less of thyroxine hormone. Calcitonin is secreted by parafolicular cells (C- cells), those also may be affected and there can be certain deficiency of that hormone also. However, that is unlikely to cause any noticeable problem. But it is better to look at the bone health of the patient. as there is a possibility of affection. But there is no obvious need for calcitonin supplement in hypothyroidism. Thanks.

Seems to be because of sinusitis. You should take steam inhalation with 2 to 3 drops of Eucalyptus oil thrice a day. Avoid spicy and salty food. Avoid cold drinks and ice creams. Take hot water whenever you feel thirsty. If symptoms don't lessen in 2 or 3 days then consult

Hi, Blood in motions is seen in piles, fissures, ulcerative colitis, colon cancer, etc. For diagnostic purpose, do a colonoscopy and consult a general surgeon for further management. Avoid hot and spicy food. Take some laxatives if you have constipation. Drink plenty of fluids and consume high fiber diet. Get treated at the earliest, otherwise, you will suffer from severe anaemia due to heavy blood loss.

Dear doctor, am 35 years old hyperthyroid, (graves), my TSH now is less than 0.01, since one month I am taking methimez 10 mg, I delivered a healthy baby girl nine months back, in pregnancy I was in remission of disease. Now am getting muscular Pains in centre of my palms, feet and upper back, hip joint spasm. One years back my endocrinologist gave Tayo 60k for same problem but, now again am getting muscle aches, please suggest me the remedy. I am feeling frustrated.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. It is nice to know you have delivered a healthy baby. Now if there symptoms like muscle pain and joint pain, it is better to get a thyroid test done. Because symptoms of hyperthyroidism can return after soe time. Because your TSH level is fairly low. So please come back with values of free T3 & T4. Thanks.

My thyroid increased to 13. I however take THYRONORM 175 regularly. Please suggest.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Krutujaji, Thanks for the query. If on treatment then TSH should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L to be free fro all the symptoms of hypothyroidism.Since your TSH is 13 mU/L, it shows that hypothyroidism is not controlled at all. This means thyroxine dosage has to increase from the present one. Then after tstarting the increased dose, TSH should be checked after 6 weeks to see if there is necessary change. Thanks

I am having hernia since last one year. My company Doctor is very confident of operating this but I am scared of open surgery and its effects. Our company hospital is not having laparoscopy operation. Should I go for same ya try else where where I shall have to bear the cost.

Respected SK hi of my 16 years surgical experience I will recommend open surgery for hernia instead of laparoscopic dear don't afraid and get it done.
