You have not mentioned whether yoiu are having hypo or hyperthyroidism. Hypothyroidism is treated with thyroid hormone ,dose of whih is guided by TSH level in blood indefinitly. Hyperthyroidis is treated with antithyroid mediines or surgery or radioactive iodine and you have to be under supervision of a physician.

Low energy levels, weight gain, bodyache, depression, dry skin, constipation, are some of the common clinical symptoms of Hypothyroidism. Some common issues include high blood sugar, High blood cholesterol and infertility. Rarely, Thyroid problem may be due to "Hyperthyroidism" (Increased thyroid hormone levels). The symptoms in that case are quite different.

Sir I'm 34 years male. My recent Thyroid test shows TSH 7.55, T3-100, T4-9.1. Plus I have hair loss issue, no other major health issues like fatigue etc. Do I need to start thyroxine tablets now? I'm a bit worried as I've heard that this medicine need to be taken life long.
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. TSH 7.55 mU/L, is considered as sub-clinical hypothyroidism. Usually it is not requiring any treatment. However, if a person has any troublesome symptoms related to hypothyroidism, then treatment is given. As regards taking the tablet for life time, if a person develops hypothyroidism, which means deficiency of the essential hormone thyroxine, which is needed for day to day functioning of almost all the metabolic functions of the body, so it has to be supplemented for the life. There is no option. Thanks.

Hello doctor last 2 month pehle mera thyroid badh gaya tha aur TSH level 15 tak badh gaya tha to doctor ne meri dose 150 mcg kar di thi. But now ab mera TSH level 0.27 h to ab mujhe kitni mcg tablet khani chaihiye.
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. With TSH at 0.27 mU/L you have achieved a good control. With this I am sure there are no symptoms of hypothyroidism. Then it is better to continue the same dose. You may check TSH after another 8 weeks, if then it goes further down, then you may reduce the dose in consultation with your doctor. Because frequent changes will not help. Thanks.

Thyroid function profile (free) Free T3: 2.95 pg/ml Free T4: 1.42 ng/dl TSH :0.035 uIU/mi Taking Thyronorm 75 mcg before the above Lab Test. Suggest me medication.
Mr. lybrate-user Thanks for the query. With TSH 0.035 mU/L, are you having any symptoms suggestive of hyperthyroidism? It appears the of 75 mcg per day is a bit high. It will have to be reduced by 12.5 mcg per day. Then taking that dose for over 8 weeks please do check TSH level again. To see if the dose is good enough. Thanks.

Mere thyroid ki problem h.aur weight badh rha h pichhle kuch time SE anxiety disorder h.mujhe jldi weight loss ke liye kya krna chahiye. please tell me.
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. It is absolutely necessary to control hypothyroidism very effectively to succeed in your efforts to loose weight. For that TSH should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L. So first check TSH levels, then if needed increase the dose of thyroxine to bring TSH to desired level. Plus you will have to take a restricted diet and exercise daily for over 1 hour. Better if you join a gym. Thanks.

Hi, I'm suffering from hypothyroidism, on medication for the past 05 years (eltroxin 100 mcg). My problem is pre mature ejaculation, is this condition is directly related to hypothyroidism? I could last for only one or two minutes. Please suggest a solution. I used to masturbate a lot since I'm 14 (3-5 times a day ), that too in a vigorous fashion.

Starting thyroxine is not going to help you loose much weight. Repeat TSH after 3 months. Get your fasting blood glucose hba1c lipid profile blood pressure checked. Exercise daily for 1 hour. Follow healthy eating habits.

Hi, I am a 30 years old female and I have hypothyroidism since two years. My TSH was 13 a month back. After which I got it checked to an Endocrinologist, I am currently taking Thyronorm 100 mcg and 125 mcg alternatively. I work in night shifts from 7 pm- 4 am in the morning. I do yoga daily from 5 am - 6 am followed by an hour of swimming. I am still not able to reduce my weight. Please suggest.
Thanks for the query. When on treatment for hypothyroidism, ideally TSH should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L, then only all the symptoms are in check. Even efforts to reduce weight will succeed if TSH is in the above range. So please check that first. Then look at your dietary intake. Total caloric intake should be based on your ideal body weight (Height in Cms - 100 = kgs). Plus since weight reduction is desired, then reduce another 500 calories from that. Plus continue doing all the workouts as of now. Thanks.

We received the test report today for my wife of t3 t4 and tsh T3 is 92, t4 is 5.7 and tsh is 7.43. Currently she is taking 25 MCG thyronorm tablets daily. So please suggest your opinion.

Dear Sir Your wife's test report are near normal. Please continue Tab. Thyronorm 25 mcg as suggested by your doctor. As it is deficiency of hormone so thyroxine is necessary to keep it in balance. Don't worry at all as it doesn't have any side effects. But please do check Thyroid profile once in 3 month to titrate your medicine.

I am 25 years old female, recently I had a thyroid test where my TSH is 7.92 other parameters being normal. Does this require any medical attention? How should I keep my thyroid normal? Is it true if I start thyroid medication now then it shall continue whole my life? Is there any way to maintain my thyroid with natural remedies rather than depending on medicines.?
Hello, Thanks for the query. TSH 7.92 mU/L, is a sub-clinical hypothyroidism. Usually no treatment is advocated in this situation. Clinical diagnosis is made when TSH goes beyond 10 mU/L. Then treatment has to be started right away. However, if there are troublesome symptoms related hypothyroidism like weight increase, swelling of face, legs and feet, cold intolerance, tiredness etc, then treatment is advocated. Hypothyroidism means your thyroid gland is functioning inadequately and hence there is a deficiency of thyroxine hormone. This hormone is needed every day for almost all the metabolic functions in the body. Hence has to be supplemented on daily basis for lifetime. There is No Other Option. If you have any doubts or queries, please come back. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user Kishore, Thanks for the query. V Oncevthe treatment is begun you have to take the tablets for at least 6 to 8 weeks. Because that much of time is needed for TSH change to be noticed. Another Important point to be remembered is that for remaining free from symptoms of hypothyroidism TSH should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L. So when next test is done this has to be looked at. Thanks.
