How Ayurveda Is The Best Way To Treat Diabetes?

Living with diabetes can be tough, the manifestation of the condition can significantly disrupt the normal routine. If you are looking at treatment options for diabetes, then know that Ayurveda can be of help, not just in managing the condition but by effectively curing it.

Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder where the body is unable to make the right usage of glucose because of insufficient production of insulin resulting in a high level of sugar in the blood. According to Ayurveda, diabetes is a disease in which a large quantity of turbid urine is frequently passed and can be cured using panchakarma therapy technique.

In Ayurveda, diabetes is known as 'Madhumeha' and is classified as a 'kapha' type of disorder. Ayurveda identifies 20 types of diabetes - 4 due to Vata, 6 results from Pitta, and 10 are caused by Kapha.

Causes

Factors that are often responsible for causing diabetes are excessive intake of foods which are difficult to digest, such as fried foods, creams, etc. Lack of exercise, mental stress and strain, excessive sleep, overeating and consequent obesity, excessive intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates, overloading of proteins and fats can also lead to diabetes. Hereditary factors also play role in causing diabetes.

Symptoms

  1. Fatigue
  2. Weight loss or weight gain
  3. Frequent urinary tract infections
  4. Blurred vision
  5. Excessive sweating
  6. Excessive thirst
  7. Excessive hunger
  8. Frequent urination in large quantity

Ayurvedic Remedies To Control Diabetes

There are several herbs which are found to be very effective in treating diabetes and lowering blood sugar level. The greatest advantage of these herbal diabetes medicine supplements are that they have no side effects. Given below is a list of some of the most effective diabetes treatment herbs-

  1. Bitter Gourd (Momordica charantia)
  2. Bael (Aegle marmelos)
  3. Gurmar Leaves (Gymnema sylvestrae)
  4. Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum)
  5. Turmeric (Curcuma longa)
  6. Onion (Allium cepa)
  7. Nayantatra (Vinca rosa)
  8. Neem (Azadirachtha indica)
  9. Garlic (Allium sativum)
  10. Sagar gota (Ceasalpinia crista)

The Panchakarma Therapies for Diabetes

Ayurveda attempts to identify the symptoms appropriately and then takes to prevent the disease from progressing further. The treatment procedures in Ayurveda involves the use of herbal medicines, modifications in the diet, changes in the lifestyle to a healthy one and exercise that includes yoga and pranayama. Another most crucial step is the known as the Panchakarma, a procedure to purify the body.

1. Herbal Medicines: Ayurveda uses a number of herbal medicines like madhunashini, bilva, haridra, jambhulbeej, shilajit, kutaj, shuddha guggul, tulshi andaamlaki for effectively keeping the level of sugar in the blood under control so that it does not rise further thereby preventing diabetes from worsening.

2. Panchakarma: Panchakarma is the primary purification, and the detoxification treatment carried out by Ayurveda for the cure of diabetes. The procedures used in panchakarma are, abhyanga swedan, basti, and vierchena. The diabetic patients can be highly benefitted by relaxing effects from the abhyanga therapy. It involves massage using pre-medicated herbal oils. It also helps in the reduction of stress and muscles at the same time which results in a sense of well - being. Swedan is an herbal steam bath that opens the pores for flushing out the toxins and cleansing the body through the excreted sweat by the skin.

Basti involves the cleansing of the body through the rectum by the introduction of certain medicinal oils through the anal region under the supervision of an expert. Vierchena is a specially medicated purification therapy which helps in the removal of the toxins from the body of the affected individual that are accumulated in the gallbladder and the liver.

Thus, panchakarma is extremely useful in the maintenance of the proper level of sugar in the blood and at the same time play a crucial role in the prevention of further complications of the disease.

Ayurvedic Tips for Diabetes Cure

  1. The bitter gourd is regarded as the best remedy for diabetes. Drinking at least one tablespoon of bitter gourd juice daily will reduce blood sugar levels in your blood and urine.

  3. A tablespoon of Indian gooseberry juice mixed with a cup of fresh bitter-gourd juice, taken daily for two months will enable the pancreas to secrete insulin.
  4. Drinking a glass of water with 10 tulsi leaves, 10 neem leaves and 10 belpatras early morning on an empty stomach helps in keeping sugar levels under control.
  5. Mix and grind seeds of Fenugreek (100 gm), turmeric (50gm), white pepper. Take one teaspoon of this powder with a glass of milk twice daily.

It's good to reduce weight at right time as many problems are directly related to overweight. Management: 1.Take 1 glass of Luke warm water with Triphala Ras30 ml in the morning daily. 2.Drink at least 2 litters per day. Lukewarm water is best for drinking. 3.Avoid cold drinks and alcoholic drink like beer as they contain more calories. 4.Don't skip meals. Avoid heavy meals. Take light meals. 5.Must have 3 main meals per day – In between main meals take fruits & green salads. 6.Eat seasonal fruits & Fresh vegetables. Fruits and vegetables contain fibres to help you feel full quickly. 7.Avoid sweets, oily, spicy, junk food, chocolates. 8.Eat more whole grains and cut carbohydrates. Choose proteins instead of fatty ones. 9.Cut salt from your diet. 10. Eat home foods. Going out to eat makes it too easy to cheat. Food sold at restaurants is commonly much higher in fat, sodium, and other weight-loss killers. 11. Avoid sedentary and lazy lifestyle. 12. Take small frequent breaks for a quick walk in between as sitting for long hours together encourages the accumulation of fat in the body. 13. Do regular exercises daily. Exercise decreases the stress hormone in your body, burns calories and also increases the blood circulation. Brisk walking for 15-30 minutes daily is good. Jogging, running, swimming & cycling are good options Consult me for any assistance.

Hyperacidity and Ayurveda

Hyperacidity and Ayurveda

In case of hyperacidity, gastric acid secretion from glands of stomach increases. The excess amount of acid causes burning sensation in upper part of the abdomen. According to Ayurveda it is known as amlapitta. In Ayurveda the pitta dosha includes whole enzymatic, hormonal secretions and digestive juices of the body. In amlapitta, pitta dosha which is bitter increases and gets vitiated due to wrong dietary habits and life style. This vitiated pitta dosha becomes sour (amla) in taste, that’s why it is called amlapitta. Normally this pitta helps in digestion of food but in vitiated form it does not complete the digestive process and causes indigestion. This undigested food cause toxin formation.

Causes of Hyperacidity

1)      Excessive physical and mental stress.

2)      Pitta aggravating diet like spicy, salty and fried food.

3)      Excessive intake of citrus fruits.

4)      Excessive exposure to heat like wandering in sun heat.

5)      Prolonged fasting.

6)      Modern medicine considers H. Pylori infection as the most common cause of hyperacidity.

Symptoms of amlapitta

1)      Burning sensation in chest is the cordial feature of amlapitta.

2)      Sour eructation, bloating, abdomen distension especially after meals.

3)      Indigestion of the taken meals.

 Management of Amlapitta at Sukhayurveda

1)      Detoxify

Hyperacidity starts when accumulated toxins begin to disrupt functions of digestive system. We at Sukhayurveda cure underlying root causes like indigestion, constipation, gastritis etc. and provide natural recommendations to remove and help prevent toxin accumulation from:

a)      Hard to digest food

b)      Poor digestion

c)       Poor elimination

d)      Mental and physical stress

Sukhayurveda detoxifying therapies for amlapitta include abhyangam full body massage, therapeutic purgation etc.

2)      Proper Nutrition

As Amlapitta is the disease of digestive system, so, proper diet has a key role in its treatment. We at Sukhayurveda provide proper diet chart to the patients of amlapitta. Pitta pacifying food is recommended. Avoid curd, citrus fruits, tomatoes, excessive salt, tea, coffee, spices and favor foods that are easy-to-digest, nourishing, cleanse the physiology, strengthen digestion and balance your body’s inner intelligence. Sukhayurveda consultant advises:

a)      Proper use of spices and cooking oils

b)      Herbal preparations to improve digestion

c)       Proper spacing between breakfast, lunch and dinner

d)      Favoring foods which stimulate digestion

e)      Reducing consumption of foods that depress digestion

f)       Proper food combinations to avoid indigestion

g)      Non-dietary regiments to improve digestive strength including exercise, specific yoga asanas etc.

3)      Ayurveda Herbs

We at Sukhayurveda also provide proper herbal formulations for hyperacidity and to cure its underlying cause also like constipation, indigestion, excessive stress, gastritis etc. Drugs which are pitta pacifying and improving digestion are used mainly. Amla, mulethi, Draksha, kshar, shankh, shukti are mainly used to cure hyperacidity.

4)      Stress Management

Excessive mental and physical stress also is a causative factor for hyperacidity. We at Sukhayurveda also provide stress relieving programs. Our destress therapies include shirodhara, takradhara, ksheerdhara, aromatherapy, oil massage etc. Stress causes increased gastric acid secretions causing hyperacidity and it also interferes with digestive process causing indigestion. Enhancing body’s ability to recover from stress is an integral part of our approach to health and well-being.

5)    Lifestyle and daily routine

One of the most important factors for maintaining proper health is to have a lifestyle that does not disturb body’s natural rhythms. Sukhayurveda consultant reviews daily routine and creates a daily schedule that will increase balance in physiology and aid in healing of the body. Avoid excess exposure to heat. Never lie down immediately after taking meals.

Strengthening the body’s Natural Healing and Self-Repair Mechanisms

We at Sukhayurveda not only aim to cure the disease but also to cure the underlying causative factors. We boost one’s inner power to fight with diseases naturally. The healing response is one of the most complex and coordinated activity within the human physiology and often cannot be strengthened significantly without a comprehensive natural approach.

Taking together all the Sukhayurveda programs described above, aim to create the ideal mental, physical and behavioral environment for healing.
