How can I increase my memory I forget things after some time. please give me solution.

General Physician,
Strategies for Remembering 1.Become interested in what you're learning. We're all better remembering what interests us. Few people, for example, have a difficult time remembering the names of people they find attractive. If you're not intrinsically interested in what you're learning or trying to remember, you must find a way to become so. 2.Find a way to leverage your visual memory. You'll be surprised by how much more this will enable you to remember. For example, imagine you're at a party and are introduced to five people in quick succession. How can you quickly memorize their names? Pick out a single defining visual characteristic of each person and connect it to a visual representation of their name, preferably through an action of some kind. Remember: Memory is predominantly visual. 3.Create a mental memory tree. If you're trying to memorize a large number of facts, find a way to relate them in your mind visually with a memory tree. Construct big branches first, then leaves. Branches and leaves should carry labels that are personally meaningful to you in some way, and the organization of the facts (" leaves") should be logical. 4.Associate what you're trying to learn with what you already know. It seems the more mental connections we have to a piece of information, the more successful we'll be in remembering it. This is why using mnemonics. Write out the items to be memorized over and over and over. 5.When reading for retention, summarize each paragraph in the margin. This requires you to think about what you're reading, recycle it, and teach it to yourself again. Even take the concepts you're learning and reason forward with them; apply them to imagined novel situations, which creates more neural connections to reinforce the memory. 6.Do most of your studying in the afternoon. Though you may identify yourself as a" morning person" or" evening person" at least one Study. Suggests your ability to memorize isn't influenced as much by what time of day you perceive yourself to be most alert but by the time of day you actually study—afternoon appearing to be the best. 7.Get adequate sleep to consolidate and retain memories. Not just at night after you've studied but the day, you study as well. Far better to do this than to stay up cramming all night for an exam.

My son who is unmarried and middle age has got into the habit of drinking through the whole day and also smokes. He is short tempered and will argue a lot over any issue. His habit of drinking has been incurred in the last two to three years. How can I get him over this issue.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
He is in need of admission to a rehabilitation facility. This level of drinking is very serious and cannot be treated from home. In most centers, unfortunately, they do not address the smoking but it can be also resolved together with the alcohol problem. He will need to be admitted for at least 6 months and he will be taught a lot of techniques and the 12 step method of resolving the problem. The family will also need to attend counseling and Al-anon groups for their codependency issues. After the rehabilitation, he will need to attend AA meetings too. All of you will need to rally around this plan and work together.

I am suffering from mental disorders like stress and depression. I don't want to take medicines. what should I do?
You can do it if you are cooperative and committed in your recovery. You definitely must meet with a counselor and deal with all he emotions behind the stress and depression. You can follow these simple rules too: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love: find someone to love and to love you back. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive everyday and learn to be contended with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do calisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly.

Strategies and Medications to Stop Smoking, and Benefits of Stopping Tobacco Use!

The Mind of a Smoker

There are a few instances when our body and mind refuse to acknowledge rationality, and quickly give in to carvings. Alcohol abuse, junk foods, depressant medications are a few of them. Among these, the most harmful is undoubtedly, smoking. In today's time, almost everyone knows about the ill-effects of tobacco. But despite our knowledge, we continue to give in and smoke. Let us have a look in depth about the usage, and the various steps one can use to come out of this dangerous habit.

Ill-Effects of Smoking

Smoking is dangerous for your health, and quitting can vastly reduce your risk of getting a disease related to the heart or lung. There is also a 50% chance that your life expectancy will be less due to smoking. On an average, a smoker has 10 - 12 years of lesser life expectancy than that of the nonsmoker. Also, quitting tobacco products can greatly reduce your chances of getting cancer. A smoker is always in the higher risk group of getting a tumor in the voice box (larynx), mouth, throat, intestines, kidney, and pancreas. Smoking can also hamper your sexual urge and erectile strength. Pregnant women who smoke carry a greater risk of having babies with many complications.

How to Curb Smoking

Quit smoking, and you can see visible differences right away. Your breathing will improve, and your asthma symptoms will likely to get better once you quit. Apart from a healthier you, you can also avoid health complications for your family members. Passive smoking is as harmful as active smoking, and a passive smoker is also easily susceptible to the complications of that of a smoker. Do not opt for lighter nicotine content cigarettes, as they have advertised that they contain less tar and nicotine. They simply do not, and they are equally harmful to you. Once the decision has been made, quit it altogether. Also stay away from chewing tobacco products. There are many ways by which you can quit smoking. Consult with your doctor in case you need medications for staying away.

There are safe non-nicotine gums and chewing tablets for curbing the smoking feel and sensation. There are also self-help groups and treatment centers that can rehabilitate you from your habits. Indulge yourself in activities that keep you happy and passionate. Try signing up for your favorite sports and keep yourself occupied at all times. Always be positive, and do not give into temptation. Believe in yourself and always remember that you are also spoiling the health and wealth of your near and dear ones. Your children follow you, and they can easily be misguided. Be a role model to them and quit smoking, and inculcate the healthy habit now and forever. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can ask a free question.

Actually I need to ask about one medicine that is "Kali broom. 1M" Manufactured by: ADELMAR PHARMA, Germany I am 21 years old And I have stammer problem. Someone suggest me this medicine and I brought It from online. But I have no idea how to use it and in what dosage. Can You please guide me. Thank You and have a good day Sir/Mam :)

MD - Alternate Medicine, BHMS
Homeopath, Surat
Kali Brom 1M is a very high potency and I will not suggest it using more than 1 dose within next 3 months. A single dose of homeopathic medicine has capacity to affect the body and mind for months. So, for now just one dose viz. 2-3 drops on your tongue and wait and watch for the changes. If possible, please share with me your reports. Take care :)

Hello- If everything is good and sound regarding your sexual organs medically, it may be that you are right to diagnose the situation as “fear.” Once a woman has had a painful experience, it’s common for her to brace against pain. That tension causes the very pain she was trying to avoid. Then the next time she tries to have sex, she braces even more which makes penetration even less likely. Over time, the situation gets worse and worse. If that’s the case with you, please consider talking with a psychologist or social worker who has experience treating such problems. You can learn new ways to manage your fears so that you can relax. You and your partner can learn ways to help you calm and get ready so that you can enjoy the closeness of an intimate relationship.

Prioritizing is the most important step towards achieving goals
"You pile up enough for tomorrow. You' will find you are left with nothing, but a lot of empty yesterdays" - Prof Harold Hill

Life is busy. It seems it is impossible to move towards your dreams. If you have a full time job and kids, it's even more harder.

So if you don't purposefully carve time out every day to progress in diet and exercise and improve- no doubt without fail, your muscle mass will get lost in the bargain of muscle mass reducing with age

Before you know, you will be old and withered - wondering where all that time went.

So start acting now.

I am suffering from body pain for continuous three days. What should i do? Please advise.
Pain is complex phenomenon, so there are many treatment options medications, therapies, and mind-body techniques. Apart from pain killers, there is evidence that certain dietary supplements and vitamins can help with certain types of pain. Fish oil is often used to reduce pain associated with swelling. A therapeutic diet complemented with few medications for pain management can also work wonders. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

Homeopathy medicine plus vocal therapy from a renowned doctor in mumbai. But still only 20 to 30% recovery is there. I'm really tensed as my whole career depends on my voice. please suggest what should I do to get recover soon.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Vocal cord nodules are benign (noncancerous) growths on both vocal cords that are caused by vocal abuse. Over time, repeated abuse of the vocal cords results in soft, swollen spots on each vocal cord. These spots develop into harder, callous-like growths called nodules. The nodules will become larger and stiffer the longer the vocal abuse continues. Vocal abuse takes many forms and includes: allergies smoking tense muscles singing coaching cheerleading talking loudly drinking caffeine and alcohol (dries out the throat and vocal cords) you have to consult an ent surgeon for proper therapy, do not play with your voice.

Dear lybrate user. This is never part of aging. Even aged people / senior citizen know how to enjoy life. You do not know why are you not enjoying as you used to. But on talking to you, we will be able to understand why you are unhappy or why are you enjoying as you used to do. Therefore you need to talk to a psychologist. Enjoyment / happiness is based on perceptions. There could be some wrong perceptions from your side. Take care.
