I am feeling quite sensitive about my health from quite some time. This all happened due to anxiety disorder which I suffered from 6 months back and I am doing every possible thing to overcome it. I underwent various checkups ranging from Cardiology to anxiety. However each and every report was fine, and at end of diagnosis I was given etizola by my psychiatrist. After taking this medicine for almost two months regularly I found no pressure in my chest and sensitivity. Everything which gave me sleeplessness vanished off. But I left the medicine in midway and almost after a month the all things like chest pressure, chest pinching returned back. But I have once again started to take medicines and they are relieving me. But I am feeling a slight pain in my wrist and forearm of lEFT side. Please tell me do this all happen due to anxiety or I has to undergo any further checkups All ecgs, digital xray of chest, blood tests etc were good which I underwent 5 months .please tell me is it necessary to have these things done once again.

Dear Mr. lybrate-user, Feeling depressed for around one year is a long time and its prudent that you seek help now. You should get yourself evaluated by a psychiatrist and get yourself evaluated for depression. Treatment with medications and psychotherapy will help you recover. You should also talk regularly to someone close to vent out your feelings. Start doing some exercise on a daily basis. I do hope that you are able to get over your depression soon. Best wishes.

I am getting very depressed and going through the highest depressive days please suggest a medication and advices.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
I am getting very depressed and going through the highest depressive days please suggest a medication and advices.
If you feel depressed, it's best to do something about it — depression doesn't just go away on its own. In addition to getting help from a doctor or therapist, here are 5 things you can do to feel better. 1. Exercise. Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better. 2. Nurture yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat.. Proper nutrition can influence a person's mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don't feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going). 3. Identify troubles, but don't dwell on them. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what's got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. 4. Express yourself. With depression, a person's creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood. 5. Try to notice good things. Depression affects a person's thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don't forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal. If you are happy with these answers please click on "useful” link so that I can know my efforts are not wasted. If you want more clarifications or prescription for medicines consult me on this site to ask me directly and not in open questions session It's not easy to say exactly what causes depression and anxiety – it's different for everyone. Sometimes a difficult time in you or your mates' life can set off depression or anxiety, sometimes it's caused by a combination of things that has built up over time and sometimes, there's just no obvious cause at all. If these tips cannot help you need antidepressants

No man is an island. We all need people and are social animals, gregarious by nature and interdependent. Your loneliness will do more harm than good. You cannot pretend in life to be happy. You need to interact with people and develop tolerance. Not everything in life is going to be according your wish and desire. You must go and meet with a counselor immediately and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor you must do so and cooperate to your utmost. Please visit these professionals along with your parents. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do calisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

Dear Lybrate user, If a doctor has told you not to wrry, you should not worry and the recurrent pain has to be due to anxiety. Anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety medicines alone cannot cure anxiety disorders mainly because medicines do not alter behavior. Behavior change and Continuous practice of the changed behavior cure anxiety. I suggest anxiety education, progressive counseling and progressive psychotherapy. I assure you complete cure. I need to know more about your anxiety so that I will be able to diagnose it properly and provide you tips to overcome and manage your anxiety. Take care.

I don't drink or smoke but sometimes my hand starts shaking for no reason is it a cause for concern?

M.Sc - Applied Psychology, MS - Counselling and Psychotherapy
Psychologist,
Hello lybrate-user. Staying still is actually quite a complicated feat; The final information sent to muscles (which determines what they do at each moment) comes from many areas in the brain. The most common type of shake is due to danger/anxiety- since a generalized activation of the nervous & motor systems is a way of "turning on the gas" when you need to either fight or outrun a predator. Before you actually choose a course of action, your engine remains "on idle" ready for action, and may be expressed as shaking limbs. The frontal lobe (which matures with age) can inhibit impulsive motions. If you look at a bunch of children lined up in the school yard (immature frontal lobes), you'll see a lot of them swaying. (In ADHD, the failure to inhibit motor activation is even more pronounced and you'll see grabbing, hair pulling, leaving one's seat, etc) In neurology, two basic types of shaking (tremors) are described "Resting" and "On Intention" A "Resting Tremor" is seen in Parkinson's Disease, as the Basal Ganglia (a special movement related system in the brain) runs short on Dopamine (a chemical it manufactures). It's called a "resting tremor" because it occurs only when the person is trying to be still and goes away the moment he initiates an action. A tremor "On Intention" means that the shake occurs as part of an action, such as when you "touch your nose" or "run the heel of your right foot along the shin of your left foot. As your finger nears your nose, or your heel nears your shin, the inaccuracy increases, so the finger/leg shakes wildly. This is associated with disorders of the cerebellum, but is also noted with alcohol intoxication and is often tested by asking someone to walk a straight line. If you are a bundle of nerves and always shaking, it would be a good idea to use up some of your stress though exercise. There are also series of cognitive exercises which help with motor (muscular) relaxation (Jacobian relaxation techniques) Thank YOu and ALL THE BEST.

Dear Ms. lybrate-user, I went through your query in detail and can understand what you must be going through in life. The symptoms that you have mentioned are definitely suggestive of depression. Feeling tired, lack of concentration, feeling sad, anxiety, sleep disturbances, headache are all symptoms of depression. You should consider getting yourself evaluated by a psychiatrist and accordingly initiate treatment. Medications ad psychotherapy will help you in getting over your symptoms and recover from depression. Although you have not mentioned details about the particular incidents, I am sure talking about them to your psychiatrist will help. Talk to someone close daily to vent out your feelings. You can also consider writing a diary daily. Start exercising daily. I do hope that you are soon able to recover from your symptoms. Best wishes.

He said to stop lonazep after taking 10 days medicine. I stopped lonazep on september. Now after being passed almost 6 month I feel better 70% than before. But from yesterday I feel mild tingling in my leg and hand. Is it any dangerous? I have a tendency to make worry about everything. Due to not having my first achieves job I sometimes felt depression. I have a 20 months baby. Before pregnancy I took several medicines and went through hormonal treatment. But at last I conceived naturally. Had that treatment any relation with my present problem? I lost somebody close last year and since then feel very depressed and prefer keeping to myself all the time. Please ...
We first need to understand the temporary nature of things, situations and people. When we lose someone dear to us we need to express our loss, suffering and misery. We do get philosophical and question God, but we will with time accept the inevitable. Only when we learn to accept loss can we move on. But we can also choose to change loss into a strength. Look at the positive side of the story. We were lucky to have experienced being in a relationship with the bereaved one at least for a short time. Better we interacted for a few years than not at all. Also we can hold on to good memories and feel the soul of that person as though they are with us eternally rather than think they have gone away. Loss when they leave but strength when they are with us. Though ofcourse in another form, not physical. Thanks.

Dear, You must understand the difference between alcohol addiction and abuse. You can definitely quit alcohol in one go. Just stop it and swear not to drink again. Engage yourself in games and other engaging activities during evenings or when you feel the urge. Just a week, your habit should change. There are many other methods, which you can see through internet. The best method is what I suggested. Please try it without fail. Take care.

Yes, there is treatment and since he is young the prognosis is good. However, I am concerned that he may not have a depression only and could have a bipolar disorder. In which case the medical treatment has to be geared for that disorder. He will also need to go for regular counseling along with the medication. He should also check blood lithium levels and take these results to a psychiatrist. You must make sure that the person cooperates because many times they do not believe that there is something wrong and would love to quit the medication. Complying with all the medical prescriptions and working in tandem with a counselor for a long time and learning coping skills and techniques to handle the daily challenges the person will face is very important. There are certain adaptations that will suit him during the elation phase and there are certain behaviors that are required during the depressed phases. In the meantime he can do certain things that will give him benefits anyway. Emotional therapy will alleviate a lot of the problems faced in this condition because it is a mood disorder. He needs to particularly look at his levels of anger both for its reasonableness and to express it in appropriate manner. I suspect that much of this anger may have origins in early childhood that he may never be aware of it now. Let him talk to your parents and explore that angle. This information will help the counselor too. Also he will need to check whether there is any genetic factor involved. He must exercise regularly, eat healthily and sleep normally too. If his motivation and cooperation is good much can be achieved. He must have a time-structured schedule filled with interesting and reasonable activities and it must be monitored for compliance and delivery. The reason I say this is that many times he will be inclined to have grandiose notions and confidently believe that he can do without the medication. This will set him back many months in the treatment and delay and sabotage the recovery: forewarned he is forearmed. If this combination of medication with therapy is maintained for at least three years without any episodes or breakdowns, it is possible to taper the medication in consonance with the doctor. Bipolar is characterized by two extreme poles i.e. Feeling very high (mania) and suddenly feeling very low (depression). You can ask the doctor for the symptoms he noticed in him for a personal understanding. His suicide threats must not be ignored and some day he could act out of an impulse. Inform the doctor about this too.
