Mr. lybrate-user, Oats can be taken by a person with diabetes, there is no problem at all. However, since he has had a severe complication related to diabetes it is essential that blood glucose levels are maintained strictly as advised by his physician. Ideally fasting glucose should be closer to 100 mg, PP 160 to 170 mg & HbA1c% <7. Please see that these levels are constantly maintained. Thanks.

Thanks.
Thanks for the query. Rice is not a cause of diabetes. Diabetes mellitus is a disorder which arises when there is deficiency of a hormone called Insulin (secreted from pancreas). In very simple words Insulin is a major factor for carbohydrate metabolism in the body hence, in the deficiency of Insulin there may be disorder in the carbohydrate metabolism. When one develops diabetes it is advised to reduce the calorie intake as a while than just to reduce carbohydrates. In fact complex carbohydrates are always preferred. Refined carbohydrates (like maida) and saturated fats must be restricted. Carbonated beverages must be reduced to minimal. As per your body weight and daily work habits a diet chart must be planned with optimal calorie consumption. The amount of rice to be consumed per day an be calculated as per the calorie requirements.

your blood sugar is high but not too high. Try changing your diet first plus exercise. If not controlled then you have to be on medications. People following strict diet n exercise usually don't need medication.

Mr. lybrate-user, For any hormone related problems endocrinologist is an ideal doctor. If your wife has hypothyroidism (detected by high TSH level), then I can help in treating on line. So if you give the details like Thyroid test report, weight, height I can guide. Getting the condition properly treated is very essential as untreated condition can affect fertility. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Tab Galvusmet (50/500) is definitely a good combination medicine. However, if adequate control is not achieved then there is most likely a need for some add on treatment. Since there is no mention about blood glucose levels, exercise, diet etc, there in no way to give any suggestion or give any comment. Plus in this communication we are supposed to give only general guidelines, no prescriptions. If you come in a private conversation with all above details I will definitely be able to give specific guidance including prescriptions. Thanks.

My fasting sugar levels are not below 140 irrespective of diet and medication. .How to control the levels.
lybrate-user, Ideally FBG should be closer to 100 mg. FBG 140 mg is high, but can surely be controlled. Appropriate selection of drug combination plus diet and exercise is needed to achieve this. Since there is no mention about PP levels, HbA1c%, drugs being taken and dosage plus dietary pattern and extent of daily exercise it is not possible to give any suggestions. If you are looking for achieving better control please come back with all the above mentioned details, then I will be able to guide. Thanks.

Hello, If one has diabetes then it is preferable to avoid either sugar or sugar free tablets along with tea, coffe or milk. The sugar substtutes are not really safe. Their intake increases craving for sugar. They may not giving calories, but can be harmful. Thanks.

lybrate-user, During menstrual cycle the thick uterine lining breaks down and bleeding occurs. Chemicals to break clots are also secreted, but if flow is more, some clots do escape. That is quite common. It has no bearing on fertility. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, With hypertension some times there can be pedal (lower limb) edema. Some times certain medications can also produce the swelling. Keeping BP 120 - 130 / 70 to 80 mmHg is good. Plus restricted salt intake and exercise will help in remaining free from it. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, In the winter months skin becomes dry and there may be increased itching. There may not be any specific problem like infection or allergy. You may consider using moisturising creams or oils or white petroleum jelly applications, to maintain good deal of moisture in the skin. That should help. Fasting glucose should ideally be around 100 mg, for good control. PP should be 1j0 to 180 mg/100 ml. Thanks.

How to Have Better Sex With Diabetes

MBBS
Sexologist
Ask Free Question

Diabetes has always been a mysterious home to many diseases. It reduces quality of erection. However, there are ways you can enhance your love life, by involving some strategies, such as:

  1. Approach sex like exercise: This helps prevent dreaded blood sugar lows.If you use insulin, check your blood sugar before sex and have a snack if it's low.
  2. Just go with it: Planning can be helpful, but don't sweat it if sex just happens. There's no reason not to grab the opportunity if it pops up just because you haven't followed your diabetes exercise routine.
  3. Use a lubricant: If you are a woman with vaginal dryness, a vaginal lubricant can make sex feel better. Ask your doctor about using one regularly, not just during sex.
  4. Prepare a sex arsenal kit: Keep anything you might need for optimal sex next to the bed.If you're a woman, you may want to have a lubricant in your kit. Feel free to include massage oils.
  5. Get a room: Treat yourself and your partner to a night at a local hotel. It's a great libido enhancer.Plan it days in advance. It's planning, but it's planning something fun.
  6. Get in some practice: If you are a man who uses a device like a vacuum pump or constriction band to help with erectile dysfunction, take time to learn how to use it right.
  7. Creativity is sexy: If you have trouble getting aroused, stretch beyond your go-to bedroom moves. Try out new positions. Explore different ways to climax. Most women don't climax from intercourse alone, anyway. Some men can have an orgasm from prostate stimulation.
  8. Limit alcohol: A little alcohol may boost your desire, but drinking can also make your blood sugar level drop quickly. If you drink alcohol, you might sip some champagne during intimacy.
  9. Get help for emotional issues: Depression, anxiety, poor self-image, and other emotional concerns can hurt your sex life. And if you have a partner, sex troubles can put stress on your relationship.
  10. Relax: How you feel about your diabetes can set the stage for sex. With diabetes, you have to expect the unexpected.

You can think of a formula in your mind for better, increased, steamier sex life.

Hi, Increased heart beat after strenuous work is normal; but increased heart beat without any reason is not OK. You need to check your ECG and rule out fibrillations.
