I'm 19 years old male and I was suffering from dandruff, my hairline started to recede from about a year ago, and my hair started thinning, I came to know that my hair is dry and frizzy, and also I got combination scalp, with dry ends and oily itchy scalp, so I started to apply coconut oil + castor oil 3 times a week, and tea tree oil one in a week, now my hair feels better, but recently I felt like having (sand grain) grains like dandruff on my scalp, I want to restore my scalp health and hair health. Please suggest me diet and medication for restoring my scalp health.

Hi apply ketoconazole lotion on your scalp...Apply maha bhringraj oil on your scalp and massage then give hot water fomentation..1-1 drop of cow ghee in both nostrils at night time before sleep....take pranacharya allergin capsule 1-1 twice a day...take lots of proteins like soyabean...egg white.....etc...avoid tea...coffee...spicy food...fermented food...junk food....apply only ayurvedic shampoo on your scalp....do pranayama early morning......

My mom having allergy with cold water, dust particle, smoke, cold wind which results in flu and sneezing what should they do?

Dear lybrate-user, your mother should be advised to avoid cold water and use warm water, avoid smoke ie mosquito coil burning in the the rooms, no smoking in the house do not use wood/gobar for cooking. An allergy test under the guidance of an allergist followed by allergy immunotherapy for dust mites. Taking oral antihistamines at night for 4-6 weeks will be help ful. Thankyou.

Neck Pain - Common Reasons Behind It!

The neck is one of the most important parts of the human body, as it connects the head with the rest of the body and renders precious mobility to the former. The neck consists of a number of vertebrae that start from the skull and end in the upper torso. There are also cervical discs that can absorb shock and allow motion along with the bones, ligaments and muscles that render support. Injuries, anomalies, inflammation and other causes may lead to neck pain which can cause severe problems if not treated properly and on time.

Read on to know more about the causes of neck pain.

  1. Muscle Tension and Strain: If you sit at a desk and work for too long without changing your position often enough, then the discomfort will gradually lead to chronic pain and inflammation due to the poor posture. Also, maintaining a poor posture while sitting, standing and walking can all lead to this kind of pain. The muscles of the neck can also suffer strain due to neck jerks during gym sessions of exercising. Also, if you sleep with your neck in a bad position, this can lead to neck and shoulder pain which can last for several days.
  2. Injury: The neck is a sensitive and delicate area that we take for granted many times. This part of the body is most susceptible to injuries which can be caused due to falls, car accidents, sports and other such occasions where the muscles as well as the ligaments of the neck may be forced out of their normal range, leaving the body in acute and severe pain. A fracture of the cervical vertebrae or the neck bones can also lead to neck pain which can take several weeks and months to get fully repaired. Sudden jerking of the head can also cause neck pain and neck injury. This motion is known as a ‘whiplash’.
  3. Heart Attack: Did you know that a heart attack can also give you neck pain? That’s right neck pain is one of the symptoms of a heart attack along with excessive sweating, nausea, pain in the arm and the jaw line, as well as shallow breathing and shortness of breath. If you do experience such symptoms along with sudden neck pain, then you will need to call the emergency unit of the hospital or a doctor immediately.
  4. Meningitis: This condition refers to the inflammation of the thin tissue surrounding the spinal cord as well as the brain. Headaches and a stiff neck are the most common and persistent symptoms of this condition. This can also turn out to be a fatality if it is not treated on time.

Dear sir, I am using thyroxine from 8 months. But thyroid keep increasing. Initially it was TSH 7.25 and later using 25 levetroxin it came to to 2.9 again star increase 4,4.5,6.5 in my recent tests, I don't understand what happened. I am also taking betalocker for my heart rate increases. Please suggest me what I have to do. Does thyroid was big disease.

Mr. lybrate-user, If you have hypothyroidism and taking thyroxine, then ideally TSH should be maintained betweei 3 to4 mU/L, to remain free from all the symptoms related to it. So if TSH level goes up, then there is a need for increasing the dose of thyroxine. Thanks.

Things to Follow 1. Take Honey ? 20 ml daily in the morning with normal water. 2. Take Medicated water (nearly 2500 ml ) daily in lukewarm state. You can make medicated water with Ginger or with Ardhbivvam Kashyam choornam. 3. Take Spouts with black salt/ black pepper in during day time. 4. My brother is 12 years old. His whole body is itching at regular intervals. Sometimes it gets worst. He has no allergy or rash on body. It What should I do to solve his problem as his whole body is itching for no reason.

Itching is a normal body response to protect us from harmful external substances or parasites such as insect bites. There are many possible causes but for some people with pruritus no obvious cause can be found. Pruritus may be localised to one area or generalised over the skin. Most common cause of itching is dry skin.  It may also be caused by medicines or by internal diseases affecting the body. When pruritus occurs due to an internal disorder, we have to treat the disorder first as most of the time it will cure the itching as well. If the itching started after you started taking  particular food items then prick test can be done to find the cause of allergy. A few general measures like avoid scratching the affecting area, applying cold compresses go a long way in reducing the itching. Avoid using any over the counter anti itch creams as they may increase your problem moisturizers if they are not suitable to your skin type.

She diabetic from last 10-12 years and last week she felt very weak and her sugar level reached 450-500 so we consulted a doctor and he suggested to take insulin and today after 3 days of taking insulin her sugar empty stomach was 70, so I want to should we continue with insulin or what should we do.

Hi Managing diabetes with insulin needs some education regarding how to adjust the insulin dose, about the type of insulin your taking, how to manage when the blood sugars are low or high and diet as well. You need a consultation to discuss the same. As of now it looks like her insulin dose is high. Please do not stop the insulin as the blood sugars are settling and if stopped can shoot up the blood sugars. The dose has to be adjusted gradually and may be stopped if she has repeated low blood sugars.

I am having a severe headache since yesterday. It is just not resectable. At the top and centre of the skull, something is like killing me. And also my right leg is paining.

Hands: Hot fomentation. Gentle Stretching of Hand Muscles. Ball exercises.Wrist Exerciser. Legs: Quad Clenches: Lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, Hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short Arcs: Lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day.

Hi Dr. I am nandini ,41 yr. Gastric problem. Its starts from early morning. With lot of burps. I do hv fast 9 am n lunch 12 to 12.30 and correct hours. Evening as I work I hv by 7 pm I tend to hv something. But can not eat. The pain arises on my back. I am forced to eat. But after 1 hr I feel so hungry again. What to do for this? I do take garlic capsules. What can I do for this.

Hi, Inadequate sleep, untimely intake of food, intake of very hot and spicy food, mental worries and tensions, excessive usage of pain killers and antibiotics are all causes of acidity. Please follow these tips apart from taking medicines to avoid recurrence: - Do not keep your stomach empty for long durations, - Eat in small quantities frequently. - Avoid hot, spicy and oil fried food - Drink plenty of water in between your intake. - Keep away from mental stress and tensions, - Perform physical exercises daily and meditation helps to relieve mental stress and tensions. - Consume lot of fibre like raw vegetables, oats, fruits, sprouts, etc - Avoid excess intake of coffee or tea , intake of medicines on empty stomach. - Be careful about the food while eating outside. - Carry a small pack of biscuit or some fruits along with you for emergency. - Whenever you suffer from acidity, take the medications prescribed by the doctor for 2-3 weeks continuously until the wounds in the stomach gets healed completely. - Sleep at least for 8 hours a day. - Restrict the usage of pain killers and antibiotics frequently.
