Understand The Correlation Between Stress And HIV!

General Physician, Hyderabad
Understand The Correlation Between Stress And HIV!

Stress is a major factor that leads to various complications in most of the health conditions. Hence, it is essential to deal with stress because doctors emphasize that if you can manage your stress, then you are already halfway through the treatment. But with HIV building up in your body it can be challenging to stay stress-free.

Effect of stress on HIV patients
Evidence has been found after extensive research that death may increase at times by 22% when an HIV patient starts taking lots of stress. So you can guess from the number what a huge impact stress has on HIV. Some other studies had brought to light a different angle of the effect caused by stress on HIV. It is said that the CD4 count and viral load increases by many folds in patients who have HIV and are under stressful conditions which have made them fall into the clutches of depression.

Steps that can be taken to curb stress-

  1. As the first step, you must identify the reasons or factors that are leading you to take the stress. These factors may be straightforward ones and something from your day-to-day activities. For instance, some might feel depressed about consuming too many medicines for HIV on a daily basis while some others might feel stress out because of the financial strain imposed by the disease. Sometimes the stress results from emotional reasons like departing from a loved one or being separated from the mainstream life.
  2. Once you have identified the reason behind your stress, you must put in some effort to get back to your daily routine and make your day organized. Mostly, it happens that people tend to extend their hours of regular activities and mess up with their biological clock. This should be avoided. Always keep fixed hours for your sleep, work and other activities. Add appropriate physical activities and proper diet to your routine which will help with your general health and help with managing stress.
  3. You must also learn to handle your emotions. Seek help in this case by attending counseling sessions with trained professional, especially when it comes to managing your sex life. Talk to your doctor and get all your questions answered because sometimes lack of knowledge leads to the development of doubts which lead to anxiety and then depression. And most importantly, spend time with your loved ones to obtain complete stress relief. This is one of the best methods to have a positive outlook on life while suffering from HIV.

So, while under treatment for HIV make an effort to avoid stress entirely to improve the situation. Follow the advice of your doctor, take the necessary medications and adopt lifestyle changes to lead a happy life.

How Excessive Use Of Social Networking Can Affect Your Mental Health?

Social networking refers to a multitude of websites that let the people from across the globe to get in touch with each other and interact through photos, videos discussions or audio. To name a few, Facebook tops the list by having over 1.2 billion active users monthly from across the world, followed by Twitter, Snapchat and LinkedIn.

As per the latest statistics, around 42% of populace online at one time, is using social networking sites either on their laptops or mobiles. Majority of this population is below 30 years of age, whereas the figure is changing for internet users aged 65 years and above. People use these sites to stay in touch with family and friends, to share things, express their views on matters and to find out what's happening in the other corner of the world.

But this usage can have many negative effects on the mental health and well-being of users both children and adults.

  1. It is addictive: It has been analyzed that these social networking sites are often addictive with people using them daily or even several times during a day. They log in to these sites for many reasons like to overcome boredom, distraction, to check their likes and comments which are usually a positive support after posting a status or information.
  2. It makes us do unfair comparisons: Various posts on social media at times make people compare their lives with others. And it is said, the grass is always greener on the other side, it makes you feel low thinking how idealized are the lives of people connected to you.
  3. Social media makes us restless: Many people start feeling restless when they are unable to access their social media accounts.
  4. Cyberbullying: Social media increases cyberbullying specifically in adolescents.
  5. Increased use of Alcohol: Social media glamorizes the use of drugs and alcohol since the teenagers often view the pictures of people using it and out of peer pressure would like to try them.
  6. Social media increases unhappiness: Enthusiastic users feel that social media fluctuates their moods also leaving them dissatisfied in their lives.
  7. FOMO: It might also lead to FOMO, fear of missing out. Pinterest might give you a feeling that you are not creative or talented, Twitter and Facebook might make you feel that you are not smart and are not enjoying your life enough.

Excess of social networking might also lead to problems like anxiety, feeling of imperfection, may induce a feeling of being miserable or in some cases might even cripple the basic need for social interaction. It has been known to create a digital landscape has exerts an unnecessary and increased pressure on the generation today and the general population has to a larger extent.

Best Homeopathic Medicines For Depression!

Homeopath, Palakkad
Best Homeopathic Medicines For Depression!

Most people have felt depressed in their lives some time or the other. Depression can be a natural reaction to failure, injured self-esteem or loss but when the severity of the condition increases it is diagnosed as 'clinical' or 'major'. Subtle signs of depression usually go unnoticed because it is difficult to determine whether it is a phase or a chronic condition. It is important to recognize the symptoms of depression and get help at the earliest.

Some major symptoms are consistent sadness, feeling hopeless, thoughts of suicide, uninterested in life, low on energy, a persistent physical trauma that does not respond to medications.

Homeopathic Treatment

There are efficient homeopathic medicines that can work to reduce the illness, especially if treated in the early stages. Homeopathy is a reliable path to follow because it does not have any side effects, unlike antidepressants that tend to numb people. Here is a comprehensive list of homeopathic medicines which most doctors are likely to recommend for treating depression.

  • Arsenicum album - This medicine is prescribed to control the symptoms like diarrhea, gastric problems, indigestion which patients often suffer from as a result of intense anxiety. Patients, appropriate for this medicine tend to be fastidious and restless. It is made of white arsenic and should be taken in prescribed potency because an overdose can cause gastroenteritis.
  • Natrum muriaticum - This homeopathic treatment is useful for mild depression or for people suffering extreme bereavement due to loss or a sudden shock.
  • Sepia - This medicine is beneficial to women suffering from postpartum depression (sadness or emotional confliction after giving birth) and menopause. Feeling of solitude and hopelessness with no energy to continue with life are some common symptoms that can be reduced with Sepia.

Occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. You might feel anxious when faced with a problem at work, before taking a test, or making an important decision. But anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or fear. For a person with an anxiety disorder, the anxiety does not go away and can get worse over time. Restlessness or feeling wound-up or on edge being easily fatigued difficulty concentrating or having their minds go blank irritability muscle tension difficulty controlling the worry sleep problems (difficulty falling or staying asleep or restless, unsatisfying sleep) these are some of the symptoms. U seem to be having anxiety disorder, kindly consult a psychiatrist and get treated. It is not a heart problem, but a mind problem. Anxxiety and Panic occurs due to reduced serotonergic transmission in the mind. Since all organs have connections from the mind, when you have anxiety and panic there are changes in the BP/ and pulse rate. It is not a primary cardiac problem. So consult a psychiatrist and get your anxiety and panic treated.

Do not do anything. Relax. And just try to understand what I am trying to say below. Really try to understand. Just try to understand. You think you are depressed, suffering from anxiety and hence you keep getting negative thoughts: "I have low self esteem" "I will not be able to understand it" "I hate studying" "I do not have inner piece" Right? OK, let me say that again. You first think you are 'depressed' 'suffering from anxiety' and 'hence you keep getting negative thoughts' So when those negative thoughts increase. Like "I have low self esteem" "I will not be able to understand it" "I hate studying" "I do not have inner peace" you 'permit' them to hang around. Because they are 'justified'you are depressed after all "So no wonder such thoughts will come. This is not a 'mistake' you are committing. This is what's happening. That's how the process works. Negative thoughts come, often without any rhyme or reason. Most often we ignore them like we would ignore street noise while speaking on the phone. But at one point, we decide to dwell on them. We pay attention to them. Give them our energy. They gain power. Then we also decide that this must be a permanent "condition" If you are well read, then you might even give it a name like 'depression' and a cause like 'low self esteem' We assume that we feel and then think. But here's the surprise. It's the other way round. We feel our thinking. Two people see the same person and get different feelings. Because their thoughts about that person, or that circumstance are different. Maybe the thoughts come unconsciously. But they do come. And then we feel. We are not feeling other people or circumstances. We are feeling our thoughts about those people or circumstances. Let the line above sink in. It's not a theory. It's the truth. Now why are the thoughts different? Why do they become negative? Why positive? Who knows? Even if you do know ("when you were 4 years old, your Mom said .which left a trauma on you. Due to which you started doing .in school. Which was then reinforced and became part of your conditioning.) what's the use? You will find the SOURCE of your negative thoughts and might feel 'justified'but that will not make the thought go away. Plus there is no ONE way how the negative or positive thoughts come - which you will then "control" They keep arising like a radio playing in the background. You cannot decide which songs will play. But you do decide which songs to pay attention to. Sometimes the song is really irritating and nasty. Just cannot get it out of your head. But you do not diagnose yourself with a condition like "songression" and decide to listen to other songs etc. If you do that, the more you try, more the song will stick. We intuitively understand that. So we simply ignore the song, hard though it may be. We refuse to give them more energy. We know that's the only way. We know that's the natural way. So we cannot control which thoughts will arise. But we control which thoughts we choose to DWELL on. And then we will get the equivalent feelings. You dwell longer. Feelings stay longer. Then you think the feelings are real. No they are simply the result of the thoughts you chose to dwell on. Now you might think that this is all a load of BS. So tomorrow when you will again get some unwanted, useless, undesired, negative thoughts, you might choose to dwell on them. Cool! You might think that 'ignoring' will work only for 'trivial' cases, and that your's is a very serious case. That these thoughts cannot be ignored. So you will dwell on them. Cool! Or you might choose to ignore them. Cool! Or you might want to visit a psychiatrist and pop some pills and then choose to ignore them, because you think 'now you can ignore them' Or you might want to undergo some therapy. And then 'think' that that 'they are losing power' and hence you 'can now ignore them' and then choose to ignore them. Whatever your diagnosis or 'solution' is, the cure will be when the thoughts some come. And you choose to ignore them. See that you are not dealing with 'depression' You are simply always dealing with 'thoughts' that are depressing. RIGHT NOW. From moment to moment. And continuously making the choice. RIGHT NOW. To dwell on them. From moment to moment. Next time they come, you always have the freedom to ask: "Do I want to dwell on them? You cannot control the initiation of the loop, but you can decide when to break it. Note 1: This answer might be controversial, and I might get comments that 'depression' is a physical condition. It absolutely is. Like blushing causes blood to rush to your face. Mental conditions can manifest physically and vice versa. The point is no matter how old the physical condition, the thoughts are still being generated in the moment. You are free to ignore the negative thoughts or think that you cannot. I have no power to stop you. Whatever you choose to think, you will experience exactly that. Note 2: Ignoring negative thoughts should not be confused with 'denial' Denial is when you refuse to accept that you are getting negative thoughts, and the subsequent negative feelings. To pretend that everything is hunky dory. You are actually giving energy by labelling them as 'negative' being afraid enough to have to 'deny their existence' and then concoct some positive thoughts in order to justify that denial or use some 'technique' etc etc etc. That's a lot of invested energy! You then make the problem worse. I am saying that the negative thoughts will pop up sometimes, and they will cause negative feelings too. Nothing to resist. But if you want to, you can choose to simply ignore them. That's all. Just read this and implement in your life. Thank you all the best.

Bipolar is fed by anger. It is time you went for psychotherapy along with the medication. The medication will always have side-effects, which cannot be avoided. It can be a crippling disease if not treated and if treated early the prognosis is good. So quickly visit a psychiatrist and seek his/her opinion and you must then follow the medication prescribed. Comply with all the medical prescriptions and work in tandem with a counselor for a long time and learn coping skills and techniques to handle the daily challenges you will face. There are certain adaptations that will suit you during the elation phase and there are certain behaviors that are required during the depressed phases. In the meantime you can do certain things that will give you benefits anyway. Emotional therapy will alleviate a lot of the problems faced in this condition because it is a mood disorder. You need to particularly look at your levels of anger both for its reasonableness and to express it in appropriate manner. I suspect that much of this anger may have origins in early childhood that you may never be aware of now. Talk to your parents and explore that angle. This information will help the counselor too. Also you will need to check whether there is any genetic factor involved. You must exercise regularly, eat healthily and sleep normally too. If your motivation and cooperation is good much can be achieved. You must have a time-structured schedule filled with interesting and reasonable activities and it must be monitored for compliance and delivery. The reason I say this is that many times you will be inclined to have grandiose notions and confidently believe that you can do without the medication. This will set you back many months in the treatment and delay and sabotage the recovery: forewarned you are forearmed. If this combination of medication with therapy is maintained for at least three years without any episodes or breakdowns, it is possible to taper the medication in consonance with the doctor.

It's very simple. She likes you. But she might not be in love with you. Infact love requires understanding between the two partners. It's not like look at someone e and you think that the other person has smiled means she/he loves you. She might be liking so many other people too. In case you want her to like you. You should go and start talking to her.

How To Cope With Psychiatric Issues In Adolescents And Teenagers?

How To Cope With Psychiatric Issues In Adolescents And Teenagers?

Adolescence and teenage are a very critical period in a person's life. A phase to lead a carefree, spirited life, adolescence is when you slowly start developing a character and a personality. A lot of changes take place in the body (internally as well as externally) during this period. However, as disturbing as it can get, this period has also witnessed an exponential rise in the number of people battling depression and other mental issues.

From failed relationship to school bullying, harassment (often sexually) to a disturbed family life and academic pressure, the trigger can be anything. There is a sudden change in their behavior. Some individuals get so affected that they cease to be the person they used to be. To make matters worse, in many cases, this change goes unnoticed by the parents and the family members.

As in adults, mental issues in teenagers and adolescents is not a completely lost case. The condition can be improved (fully cured). What is important is an early diagnosis followed by the treatment. Some of the common symptoms or behavioral changes that an adolescent or a teenager with a psychiatric problem may exhibit include:

  1. Extreme and frequent mood swings. The teenager may suddenly act cranky or remain agitated all the time. The person may suddenly get extremely emotional.
  2. The person detaches himself or herself from the outside world, friends, and family. They avoid social gatherings and public interactions as much as they can.
  3. A sudden and unexplained change in body weight (sudden weight gain or weight loss).
  4. They feel tired and sleepy all the time.
  5. There can also be a change in their eating habits (loss of appetite or food binging).
  6. Their overall performance (both academic as well as extra curricular) goes for a toss.
  7. In some extreme and unattended cases, the adolescent or teenager may take to drug and alcohol abuse.

Do not take the matter lightly if your child shows any of the above symptoms. Talk to them. The child needs your support the most. Be patient in dealing with them. Depending on the severity, seek medical assistance. A timely medical intervention can work wonders for your child.

In addition to the treatment and counseling sessions, as parents, you too can help the child to cope with the situation better.

  1. Maintain a positive and cheerful environment at home.
  2. Do not leave your child alone all the time.
  3. Do not over pressurize your child to excel academically. Appreciate them, no matter how small an achievement.
  4. Disciplining your child is important, but know where to draw the line.
  5. Go on family vacations. Give your child the time and attention they deserve.

Your child is just going through a rough phase. All they need at this point is your love, care, and attention. Motivate and encourage your child.

Depression - Role Of Homeopathy In Treating It!!

Depression - Role Of Homeopathy In Treating It!!

Depression is a mental-emotional disorder that reflects signs of severe sadness, pessimism and a general indifference towards life. There are major changes in physical activities as well. It is a little difficult to identify in the initial stages and it can move on to a more serious condition wherein a person turns suicidal. People suffering from depression may intentionally inflict physical pain on themselves as an outlet to relieve their psychological suffering.

Symptoms of Depression-

  1. Loss of interest towards their hobbies.
  2. A laidback, indifferent attitude towards life.
  3. Persistent sadness.
  4. Irritability for causes unknown.
  5. Pessimism.
  6. Sudden weeping outbursts.
  7. Restlessness.
  8. Inability to concentrate on something for a long period of time.
  9. Inability to apply the mind to work.
  10. Lack of rational or logical thinking.

Causes of Depression-

  1. A sad, difficult event in life. For example, a major failure, loss of a loved one, separation from a loved one, a disturbed family life or any other form of tragedy.
  2. Reaction to certain medication that has affected the neuro-transmitters or bio-chemicals present in the brain.
  3. Hormonal imbalance, especially during the peri-menopausal (marked by the ovaries secreting lesser oestrogen) years of a woman.
  4. Any physical disability or chronic illness such as cancer can contribute to depression.

Treatment for Depression-

  1. Counselling sessions with a psycho-therapist.
  2. Consultation with a neurologist.
  3. Spiritual healing through chants, guidance, positive thoughts.
  4. Medication.
  5. Spending time with friends, loved ones.

Healing Depression With Homeopathy-

Homeopathy is a natural and non-toxic remedy for several diseases. The major advantage of homeopathy over other medication is that it does not cause any adverse side effect. It is safe and can be used at all ages without worrying about any detrimental consequence. Homeopathy is known to be very effective in treating depression. Homeopathy medicines are prescribed after a thorough study of the symptoms. Homeopathy first treats the symptoms and then provides relief; for example, the constant mental exhaustion or some unexplained physical pain. It then works on the cause of the disease. In this case, the medicines will affect and treat the hormonal disorders or neurological disorders. Following this, homeopathy medicines will try to prevent the onset of depression in future.

How to relax our mind. Tension free stress free, I am a student .but I can't control my anger please help.
Hi Lybrate user, For stress relief you can try all these steps. When it comes to short-term methods, I think the best ones are: Sports - physical exercise raises endorphin levels, which makes us happier. Eating something tasty - raises dopamine levels, which makes us happier. Doing things you love - such as going to the movies or spending time with friends, relaxing. Talking to people - share your concerns and stress with you dearest friends, but make sure they are willing to listen to it. Because we are social animals, communicating to others in difficult times really helps. When it comes to long-term, I would say: Meditation - it has been the biggest game changer for me. Its effects don’t come within a day, but when they do, you will notice how dealing with stress has just become so much easier. You will also have your own quiet place to go to. Understanding and awareness - one of the most effective weapons against stress is awareness. You have to understand that life should not be stressful. Don’t take studies, work or other as the most important things in life. See them for what they are. Don’t forget to stop, analyse your thoughts and understand why you are feeling the way you are. You should do this daily or whenever you feel overwhelmed. When you do come to the conclusion that it is all just a game, stress will lose its grip on you. FOR ANGER YOU CAN TRY ALL THESE STEPS. In the short run, Take a break as soon as you recognize that you're angry. Stop what you're doing, get away from whatever is irritating you, and just take a breather. Breathe deeply, from your diaphragm; breathing from your chest won't relax you. Picture your breath coming up from your "gut. Slowly repeat a calm word or phrase such as "relax, "take it easy. Repeat it to yourself while breathing deeply. Use imagery; visualize a relaxing experience, from either your memory or your imagination. Ask for the support of someone you trust. If you're still upset, sharing your concerns with a close friend or confidant might help. Try to see some humor in what angered you. After you've calmed down and established that you're ready to get over the incident, try to see the lighter side. In the long run, Do some physical exercises. The endorphins from exercise can help you calm down, and moving your body provides a physical outlet for your rage. Cognitive restructuring - Ask yourself honestly if you see everyone and everything as an adversary or an obstacle. Odds are, the world isn't exactly that way - but you think it is. Change the way you think about life. Keep a journal of what upsets you and how you plan to fix it. Lastly, if all else fails, visit a mental health professional. THANK YOU ALL THE BEST.

Hi lybrate-user, welcome to Lybrate. I understand the situation you are in and thoughts that come in such situation. My advice to you is. 1. Your marks is the reflection of your ability, it already says you are good enough to grab a seat. But since there is huge difference in the number of medical seats available and the candidates, obviously some get and some do not. There is no need to feel negative about it. You should see the marks and analyze yourself what you can do to get better score next time. 2. Life is bigger than the exam, so think life in a bigger perspective and force yourself and start preparing for the next. 3. If none of these working, you can revert back, medicine and counseling do help. Regards.

Homeopathic Remedies for Anxiety and Stress!

Homeopath, Mumbai
Homeopathic Remedies for Anxiety and Stress!

For the past two centuries, Homeopaths have concentrated on the interconnection between psychology and physiology. It has been known for long that Homeopathy has no side effects on a person's overall health and thus it should be implemented in curing mental and physical stress. Mental stress may result from a person's coping skills. You may respond to stress in a wrong way and this further complicates your situation.

You may fail to control your instinctive reactions. Medications in Homeopathy can actually remedy disorders regarding stress management. In many cases, it has been noticed that a physiological disease has a psychological impetus to itself. For instance, people falling under the 'Type A personality' category are more susceptible to heart problems. Their heart problems can be serious enough to make them undergo bypass surgeries. An operation can be avoided if only reasons behind problems at the surface are understood. Patients belonging to the 'Type A personality' category can suffer from 'hurry sickness' with symptoms like bouts of anger, impatience, aggression and hurriedness. These factors together enhance the risk of having heart problems later in life.

The following medicines tackle disorders without any side effects;

  1. Homeopaths advise you to take Aconitum napellus to reduce physical stress. Aconite napellus is known to treat problems such as a dry mouth, an irritable skin, a pounding heart and so on so forth. This can even cure problems resulting from a traumatic episode in past.
  2. Another Homeopathic medicine prescribed to deal with anxieties about future is Arsenicum album. If you have fears about your safety, about certainty or about what future has in store for you, this medicine can help you out.
