Gaining weight in a healthy way is not ROCKET science. It just takes knowing a little bit about muscle physiology and exercise science. If you are not gaining weight than do not look much further for the answer. It is really not that complicated and really only breaks down to one or two or all of the following: 1. You do not maintain energy balance (Energy In vs. Energy Out). 2. You do not eat the right foods at the right times (poor food combinations). 3. You do not give your muscles enough stimulus (or reason) to grow. ENERGY BALANCE Here is the easiest way to understand energy balance: Energy Balance = Energy Intake – Energy Expenditure The balance of intake versus outtake is a critical starting point in weight gain or loss. If you have a SURPLUS of calories (positive energy balance) where the intake EXCEEDS the expenditure, you gain weight. If you have a DEFICIT of calories (negative energy balance) where the intake is LESS than expenditure, you lose weight. Simple enough. Now remember that a surplus of calories is ONLY one component of gaining weight! Three thousand calories of junk and empty calories is COMPLETELY different from 3000 calories of high quality carbs, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. Anybody who does not understand this does not understand the theory that a calorie is not a calorie. (You can determine your daily calorie intake using a good online calorie calculator or you can ask your general physician.) Now, to gain weight you must give your muscles a reason to grow. They must feel a need to be bigger and you can create that need by performing compound exercises using heavy weights. By lifting heavy weights, your muscles are forced to adapt to the unusual stress and they respond by becoming bigger and stronger. Hi, you should go for brisk walk in the morning and evening. Do regular exercise atleast 15 minutes. Take lukewarm water with lemon in the morning. Take salad before meals. Drink more water in a day. Don't take rice at night and don't skip breakfast. Take small and frequent meals.

Hi, My serum calcium levels range is 10.6 which is the border line. My vitamin d levels are 33.3 and serum creatinine levels are 1.3 that is also the border line as per the lab ranges. Do I need to really worry about these high end values of calcium and serum creatinine. How can I improve my kidney and calcium levels to get them back to normal. Do I need to undergo any kind of tests? Please suggest.

We have to depend on glomerular fliteration rate value and if it has decreased than we might have to do further investigation and formula for calculating gfr in ml/minute = [(140-age)*wt in kg ]/ [72*creatine value] and only in females above value multiple it by 0.85 and it will be your gfr value {note - mark of * is for multiplication}

My Mom is 67 years old. 6-7 years back she had minor paralysis attack on the right side of her face. After two months treatment of medicines and physiotherapy she was OK. Now, from the last 2 years, she is not able to walk properly. She can walk straight, but whenever she wants to take a turn her feet just refuse to move (just like a lock in the feet). She become very nervous for few seconds. After that she slowly moves. From the last six months, she has fallen down 2-3 times in the house due to this. Now from the last week, some white fluid started coming out from her face after every few minutes. This fluid problem I saw earlier in her 6-7 years ago when she got paralytic attack. Rest she is eating properly and looks well. Just she had a walking problems as I explained above. She is going for physiotherapy from last one month. Kindly suggest what is her actual problem and what should we do to improve her condition?

Hello, Lybrate user, Paralysis is a subject related to brain the commander of the whole body in your case left hemisphere of brain is affected. Your mother might be obeased causing difficulty in movement. After paralysis there remains confusion of direction, speed & timing .she might be declining to move being scared of falling down, hence she should be encouraged in this regard. Give her the homoeo medicine/ @ Causticum 1000-6 pills, wkly. Report fortnightly. Your feedback be appreciated, please. Tk care.

Hi, if your face is puffy and your body is lean, then it can be either genetic or due to some medical health issue. If other members also have chubby face in your house then its genetic, if its only yours then I would like to advice you to get endocrinology examination done with an endocrinologist. Mean time you just start doing exercise. It may get solved as grow old.

Never take supplements, its like slow poison , these doctore, coaches and supplements will never tell you the truth about these products as tey want is profit, our food has no substitute, eat lots of paneer, cow ghee, banana, almonds to gain weight naturally, start doing surya namaskar, also start doing prithvi mudra to gain weight naturally, dont harm your bodies with these man made proteins, its cancerous.

Hye. Hye, Thanks for the query. Firstly it is important to understand that weight /fat loss involves sensible eating. Understand that no food will work in isolation in weight/fat loss. It's a balanced diet that is important to fat loss. Remedies like green don't help weight loss. They help flush out your system and act as a detox which definitely will help better digestion and metabolism. This will only aid a little in your efforts to lose weight. All the so called singular remedies will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. So, have your green tea but accompany it with good diet, exercise and sleep to see result. You have to eat the right foods at the right time. Eat small but frequent meals.     Reduce your main meals by small amount. Take a glass of lime water 10minutes before meals to help digestion. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Lastly be committed.                        Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing.

Diabetes affects all organs in the body – Eyes, kidneys, nerves, reproductive system all are affected, In fact, from toe to hair. For diabetic control, patient and doctor should be in constant touch for regular follow up and advice. The common symptoms are:-Both types of diabetes have some of the same tell-tale warning signs. Hunger and fatigue. Your body converts the food you eat into glucose that your cells use for energy. But your cells need insulin to bring the glucose in. If your body doesn't make enough or any insulin, or if your cells resist the insulin your body makes, the glucose can't get into them and you have no energy. This can make you more hungry and tired than usual. Urinating more often and being thirstier. The average person usually has to pee between four and seven times in 24 hours, but people with diabetes may go a lot more. Dry mouth and itchy skin. Because your body is using fluids to make pee, there's less moisture for other things. You could get dehydrated, and your mouth may feel dry. Dry skin can make you itchy. Blurred vision. Changing fluid levels in your body could make the lenses in your eyes swell up. They change shape and lose their ability to focus. Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch personally.
