invariably diabetes does not produce any symptoms which are easily recognisable, that is one of the reasons why most people miss it. But when fully developed it may cause excess thirst, excess urination, excess hunger, unexplained weight loss and tiredness. On getting the blood test done high blood glucose is seen. Fasting >126 mg, pp >200 mg and hba1c>6.5 % is diagnostic for diabetes.

I am 56 years I am over weight 90 kg. do you have any sure remedy for it ? Life style is lazy. And not much physical work. Please help.

Let me know your food intake details. The best diet is one which is healthy and well balanced with foods from all the food groups, and one which is varied and that you can stick to weight loss on some diets can be dramatic in the short term, but there's more of a chance of rebound weight gain. Set yourself a realistic target and aim to lose between (0.5-1.0kg) a week I strongly accommodate the patient's own preferences without the patient feeling that they are on a diet not compromising the weight management goals. Don't fall for self dieting or fad diets available online they have harmful effects in the long run, if you lose a lot of weight very quickly, you may not lose as much fat as you would with a more modest rate of weight loss. Instead, you might lose water weight or even lean muscle tissue, since it's hard to burn that many fat calories in a short period. After assessing your personal challenges to weight loss, one can recommend a strategy to gradually change habits and attitudes that have sabotaged your past efforts. Also the overall objective should not be to drastically reduce weight but doing it gradually and help rebuild body tissues and to maintain ideal body weight.

Hye, Thanks for the query. First think of gaining some stamina and good weight, then you can work on toning as well. Understand that weight gain is very dependent on genetics and metabolism. It is important to know that just eating just two heavy meals a day will not help. Eating the right foods at the right time is very important. Eat meals at frequent intervals. Eat a mid meal between each main meal. Avoid junk foods. Include dairy, eggs, nuts, fruits in your meals. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Exercise at least thrice a week. Even if you were to take medicines or supplements they will not work in isolation You need to have a calorie and nutrient dense meal.

Dear, you should initially aim to increase your appetite. Increase your appetite by eating more to gain weight. But do it step-by-step and not by stuffing yourself too much at one go. Respected lybrate-user hi there is no emergency give boiled water plenty of liquids made from that like lemon juice coconut water butter milk. Avoid biscuits ice cream. Don't allow to put toys in mouth. Ors powder hourly in boiled water later then if required consult pediatrician dear thanks regards.

For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

Our weight should be proportionate to our height. For every given height there is a normal weight range. You must do several things correctly to gain weight. A healthy diet: this is the foundation of gaining weight. If you don't do this right, the other things you do won't be effective and could even be harmful. Follow the following tips:- · Pay attention to your health and food intake. · To increase your appetite, have a glass of lime water or 1 cardamom (elaichi) before your meal. · Have minimum 4 meals in a day. · Drink 1 glass of milk twice a day. · Try to enjoy your meals and gradually increase the quantity you eat every time. · A balance diet should have all essential nutrients in it. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It should include combination of Both Carbohydrates and Proteins for e.g. Oats with Milk or Poha/ Upma with a glass of milk. If you do not like milk have 1-2 egg whites in the morning along with your breakfast. · You need to focus on your protein intake : Increase your protein intake e.g. milk, dairy products- cheese, paneer, lentils (dals), nuts ( soya, peanuts, dry fruits ), pulses e.g. rajma, chole, kidney beans etc. sprouts. If you are a non-vegetarian, then you can have proteins by also eating eggs, chicken, fish. Weight gain is muscle gain. In your condition your energy requirement is very high so whatever you eat is used as a source of energy and you do not make muscle. To gain muscles you will have to eat at least 6 meals (high calorie) in a day at a regular interval with a proper ratio of proteins and carbohydrates. Proteins will help you gain body mass while carbohydrates will help you give energy. Protein foods are eggs, fish, chicken, milk and milk products, meat and dals. Carbohydrate foods are roti and rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes. You have to eat vegetables and fruits and use healthy and good fats for cooking like ghee, cold pressed mustard or til oil. You will also have to do some weight training exercise to help you build mass into the body. Also drink enough water to keep you hydrated.

Hello Kalpana, Your BMI is normal. You need not lose weight. But trying to eat healthy is not a bad idea. Have millet based breakfast like raagi dosa, jowar idli, quinoa upma. Have brown rice in lunch with a salad, dhal and curry, snack on whole fruits and nuts. You can have roti and salad for dinner. Hope this helps you stay healthy stay fit☺

Hye. Thanks for the query. Most common reasons for hiccups are- -Stretching of the stomach after eating or drinking  -Sudden emotional excitement -Sudden change of air temperature (eg. Cool shower) -Very hot/cold food or drink -A large meal -Alcohol or excess smoking. Here are some remedies you can try out to stop the hiccups. - Cinnamon powder is an effective remedy for hiccups. Boil 1 ½ cups of water and add a teaspoon of freshly ground cardamom powder in it. Allow the liquid to cool and then strain the liquid and drink. This remedy helps the muscles of the diaphragm to relax and this will stop your hiccups. - Chew and suck on a piece of fresh ginger. - Place a teaspoon of sugar below your tongue and let it gradually melt. -Drink a glass full of iced water. This sudden strong temperature can help the diaphragm muscles to relax. If the hiccups persist for more than 3-4 hour, you need to see your physician to detect other more serious underlying medical conditions.
