Suffering from kneepain on both legs. Dr. Suggest me for operation please suggest. My age is 56 years old.

MBBS, MS - Orthopaedics
Orthopedist, Delhi
Not all patients of pain in joints need joint replacement. Most of them can be managed without surgery. Physiotherapy along with medicines will help. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with a soft bedding on it. Any way take caldikind plus (mankind) 1tab odx10days paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days do knee exercises. It may have to be further investigated make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take.

Sir, I am from Bangalore. I have a problem with my left foot and it has been diagnosed as CHARCOT FOOT on stage II. on 14.05.2014 I met with a small accident in which the front wheel of a car brushed my left foot which resulted in two small fractures which were not treated well during that time. Many ortho surgeons suggested that there is nothing wrong with the foot and I can walk normally. But my pain did not subside. My diabetologist suspected it to be Charcot foot and later it was confirmed. on the advise of a foot surgeon from M.V.Diabetic Centre, Royapuram, Chennai now I am using pneumatic shoe since 19.12.2014 (Ottobock-Germany)and I am not taking even one step with out the shoe. I will not have pain when I walk with the pneumatic shoe. Since last four months I am taking calcium tablets. Now I need your help in knowing the following. 1. Whether this Charcot foot is curable fully, if it can be, how long does it take. 2.Whether I can have normal physical activity using the pneumatic shoe. 3.is there any probability of the recurrence in case it cured and whether there is any possibility of the other foot being effected. 4. Or there any better alternative than the pneumatic shoe. 5. How I should conduct myself as for as my normal walking is concerned.

My father weight is 105 kg n suffering from osteo arthritics. Doctors said to consult with ortho specialist rhematologist. He said to change the knee cap of both legs. Will it be beneficial? He is also a sugar patient Now what should I do?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. lybrate-user, I have gone through the query, and understand your concer. One major difficulty is he is obese with a grade 2 obesity (BMI 35.23 kgs/M2). This is the major reason for osteoarthritis and diabetes. But due to pain in the knees he is unlikely to do any worthwhile exercise. In such a situation one of the best option is to look for total knee replacement (if affordable). Because post that he may be able to walk a considerable distance and work on reducing weight. At his age ideal weight should be about 65 kgs. So my suggestion is to consider knee replacement, strict control of blood glucose by using Insulin injections and later concentrate on weight reduction through exercise and diet. Thanks.

I am 41 years old female having tennis elbow pain and tail bone pain more often these days my profession is coaching for international competitive exams

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. For tennis elbow: - ice packs for local application - tennis elbow braces are available and one from aircast is useful - take anti-inflammatory medication as per your suitability - ultrasonics with physiotherapist is a useful modality for pain relief - avoid acticities which increase your pain for coccydynia or tail bone pain: - sitz bath 3-4 times in a day - use only cushioned surfaces for sitting, avoid hard surfaces - same anti-inflammatory medication will work in both conditions as both are due to localized inflammation let me know in 2-3 weeks time how you are feeling with these measures do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards Dr Akshay Kumar Saxena
