I am a 20 year old male and have recently left smoking. My head hurts a lot lately. I need help with the pain please. What should I do?

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)
Endocrinologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate user you have taken a commendable stood by quitting smoking. Don't ever touch cigarettes again. For the head pain try to keep yourself hydrated by taking a lot of fluids. You can also take any painkiller as and when required for the time being but if this headache tendency continues for more than 3 weeks then you need further help.

Im 23 year old girl, recently my mother got mild heart attack so she is bit tensed. Doc told one nerve blockage is there. Is it she will be perfectly fine in some days?

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
You mean to say that one blood vessel is blocked (not nerve blocked?) that was the reason for heart attack recently? may be your doctor will suggest angioplasty which is different from open heart surgery. Recovery is good provided patients take care of health by eating right food, doing moderate exercises, keeping bp and blood sugar in control. Good luck.

Normal cholesterol range is different for different age. Moreover, not every cholesterol is bad. You have made a better choice by making lifestyle changes. Keep doing it. Also add meditation and pranayam. You will be fine.

What is blood pressure, and what is high blood pressure and what is low blood pressure?

Certificate in Basic Course on Diabetes Management, CCEBDM Certificate in Diabetes, MBBS
General Physician, Pune
Blood pressure is lateral pressure exerted by blood flow over the blood vessel walls while in circulation. Blood pressure makes it easy for blood to provide nutrition to all parts of body and to help removal of bad excretory products. There is no specific standard value. But 110 - 130 mmhg is normal systolic value and 85mm hg is normal upper diastolic value. Due to age, bodyweight, activity etc. Readings fluctuate systolic below 100 mmhg can be taken as low blood pressure. Above 145/85 mmhg can be taken as high blood pressurewhich can be kept normal by proper medication.

MD PULMONARY, DTCD
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
Duolin is a reliver drug and should not be taken daily. Budecort 200 is very less dose and need addition of laba for good effect. Better get stepped up dose for asthma after consulting a resp. Phy. Get echo done to r/o col pulmonale which may be a cause for oedema. Nebicard though a selective drug and said to be not aggevating asthma, but better to avoid it or reduce its dose.

When the count goes up (the correct count is 160) I take apple cider vinegar 1 spoon in a glass of water, empty stomach for 8 days and take my test after 10 days, the count comes to normal. I do my blood test every 4 months and this way going on. Eating is normal as I eat every thing. Please advise.

Havin cider is not permanent remedy for tg, try eatng lots of garlic. If you cant have it get it homeopathically allium sativum,(biochemic) nat phos. Avoid all types of fats and red meat and excessive salt consumption requires detailed questioning so as to ascertain your personality and to treat you symptomatically. Treatment is available, safe and without side effects in biochemic system of medication. Consult me in private.

He is 44 year old male and suffers from high cholesterol and a fatty liver. He lives on hong kong and in sales job, travelling in asia. Works late and smokes a bit. He is quite fit looking and walks a lot. What would you advice?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
High cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take green veg., whole grain.garlic,. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

Does sugar cause Hyperactivity? Do surgery soft drinks lead to diabetes? Do egg raise cholesterol levels? Can watching tv ruin your eyesight?

Basic Life Support (B.L.S), Diploma in Diabetology, PGD ND, Diploma in Diet and Nutrition, B.Sc. - Dietitics / Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Jalandhar
All these are myths. Excess of everything is bad. No soft drink lead to diabetes. Eating egg yolk in excess raises cholesterol. Bt along with eating eggs you are doing good physical activity and a balanced diet it will not raise. Expecding many hours infornt of tv may cause problem but watching only for one two hours per day with proper sitting position will not.

I am a married person with a child of about a year old and my wife passed through surgery. Now I do not want that my wife become pregnant one more time at least for 5 to 6 years. Now I want to know is there any safe kind of solution to control pregnancy.

LCPS, BAM&S
General Physician, Pune
Have a intra uterine devise or loop inserted. It will provide hassle free life without pregnancy. Second choice is contraceptive pills. These are to be taken every month after period. Some mild side effects are possible. And if you forget to take tablets, risk increases. Third is condom, male or female. It is safe, but use good quality.

M.B.B.S., Diploma in Family Medicine, Fellowship in Diabetes (Liverpool), Advanced Clinical Course in Cardiology (USA), Certified Diabetologist from USA, CCEBDM, MD - Consultant Physician
General Physician, Hooghly
Dear , chest pain may be due to various reasons like heart and lungs problems, digestion problems. You first do an ecg and get your blood pressure, pulse checked. Mention if your pain increases while hard work, climbing stairs, swallowing food. Describe if the pain is throbbing in nature or just a tightness feeling. Mention if the pain radiates to any part of your body. Wish u all the best. Dr. S. Modak
