Hi. I understand your concerns. You may be having allergy. Called as allergic rhinitis and asthma. Consult a pulmonologist as you will need to undergo pulmonary function test which is needed for the diagnosis and also assess severity of asthma based on which treatment can be started. You will benefit from intranasal corticosteroids and anti allergy medicines as well. Hope your questions were answered. Thanks.

Sinusitis!

Sinusitis is inflammation of the membrane that lines the sinus (sinuses the air-filled cavities in your forehead and cheeks and behind the bridge of your nose, produce thin mucus) and nasal passages, narrow ducts into the nasal cavity.

It can spring from hay fever, a virus or just about anything that irritates your nasal passages.

The inflammation alone can cause painful, tender eyes, cheeks and nasal passages, headaches, even earaches. Not only are sinus infections painful, they are also long lived and difficult to clear up, even with antibiotics - a good reasons to thin the mucus and encourage drainage with the right foods.

BENEFICIAL FOOD--

* Chillies, onions, horseradish, wasabi, and other foods that make
your nose run
Draining mucus is a sure way relieve sinus pressure and pain

* Capsicum, Citrus fruit and other foods rich in vitamin C--
Vitamin C is crucial for keeping the immune system in top form, means fewer colds, flus and even allergies

* Hot liquids
Sip hot tea with lemon or a steaming bowl of chicken soup
(or any soup made with clear broth) to get the ' juices' in your
head flowing

* Tea and water
The more fluids you take in, the thinner the mucus in your nasal
passages. Drink at least eight 250-ml glasses, or 2 litres daily.

* Nuts, seeds, wheat-germ, almonds, sunflower seeds and other
foods reach in vitamin E

FOOD TO BE AVOIDED

* Dairy foods
For example
Milk, Cheese and other dairy foods make mucus seem thicker

* Alcohol may swell nasal and sinus membranes

I've been having trouble coughing for a while , I mean whenever I cough I get hiccups . This has been going on for few years . Should I be concerned? I've been told it might be because of poor lung capacity. I haven't been diagnosed with any serious medical conditions.

What medications are best for the treatment of asthma? What are their side effects?

General Physician, Hooghly
You need to inform how severe is your condition. How many times in a week you wake up during your sleep due to breathlessness? according to the severity of your condition, medicines are generally prescribed. In general, you may have to take more than one inhalers, i. E. One inhalers for regular use another as rescue medicine. At the same time, you may need to take anti-allergic medicines to prevent exacerabation. If you are a smoker, you immediately have to stop it. There are some side effects of taking inhalers containing steroid. It may cause oral ulcer if you do not rinse your mouth properly after using inhalers. Sometimes, steroid tablets or injections are required for treating severe asthma which may cause decreased immunity and makes a human prone to infection.
