Dissolve Kidney Stones

Felllow in Endourology, MCh Urology, MRCS, MS, MBBS
Urologist,
Most important things to dissolve kidney stones are to keep your kidneys healthy and keep healthy urine flowing.

How to keep the kidneys healthy?

1. Prevent or control hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and diabetes.
2. Exercise regularly; at least 30 min per day.
3. Take adequate natural vitamins and minerals in the form of fresh fruits and vegetables (except moderation in leafy vegetables, beans and tomato)
4. Reduce salt intake (<4 g /day).
5. Reduce animal protein (chicken, mutton, fish, milk etc) intake.

How to keep your urine healthy?

1. Drink 3 to 4 litre of fluids/day to keep urine output > 2 to 2.5 litre/day.
Make sure that your urine is not yellowish.
2. Increase good minerals like citrate, potassium and magnesium in urine. All these are abundant in fruits, especially citrus fruits like lemon and orange.
3. Decrease bad minerals like calcium, oxalate, uric acid and sodium in urine.
4. Do not reduce calcium intake too much.
Calcium is required for bones, teeth, muscles etc. Moreover, too much reduction in calcium increases oxalate in urine leading to stones. 2 small glasses of milk per day is acceptable.
5. Non-vegetarian diet increases uric acid production. Reduce them.
6. Tea, coffee, tomato, greens, chocolate and beans are rich in oxalate. Moderation is required.

With all these dietary modifications your kidneys may still be excreting large amounts of bad minerals and less of good minerals due to genetic predisposition. These can be checked in 24 hour urine tests. If so, you may need some special medications to prevent stones. Your endourologist will help you customize your dietary pattern and medications to dissolve and prevent further stones.

Healthy life, healthy kidneys, no more stones!

Hello, Summer always train out the energy both physically and mentally. It's better to improve your diet and sleep pattern according to climate. Consume more sweet liquid in the form of sharbat, fruit juice etc, sleep in day time and take bath twice daily. You can consume Gul kanda with meals for faster recovery.

Hi, laziness may have to do with depleting energy resources within you. Make sure you have proper diet and sleep. Before going into other reasons, get yourself checked with a physician/doctor. Also try to organise yourself and have a balanced routine with due time to be given to all activities including studies. And remember'being cool' is not about following others. Hope this helps.

Hello lybrate-user, Realisation in itself is the first step to achievement, though you haven't mentioned your height but it seems you are overweight and this can not only cause day-to-day discomfort but can also prone you to a number of diseases, but don't worry a little bit of effort on your part and guidance from a dietician or Doctor can help you out. For a healthy lifestyle you can start with gradually increasing your water intake, cutting down completely on red meat, junk or fried food, white flour dishes, aerated drinks and including more of green vegetables, green tea and fresh fruits in your diet. Besides this brisk walking, yoga and simple exercises can easily help in losing a lot of extra kilos whereas adequate sleep and stress free state of mind always help for a overall good health. Remember Rome was not built in a day so results will definitely show up but it might take some time so don't fret and with a strong determination and pertinacity accomplish what you desire! All the very best and take care.
