Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. If you have localized pain with no s/s of any inflammation or infection like swelling, skin redness, local warmth on touch etc, I will advise you to start with: - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a physical therapist and then at home - you can take short course of anti inflammatory medication like tab etoshine on sos basis especially when there is an episode of pain, swelling etc. - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application like dynapar qps spray can be used and is easily available. We will observe you for a period of around 10-14 days, and if your symptoms are not subsiding, then I will advise you some investigations. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards Dr. Akshay kumar saxena consultant orthopaedics fortis hospital, new delhi.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually pain at calf/leg region can be due to many reasons, commonly it is muscular in nature but it can also be due to tendons, nerves, blood vessels etc. My advise to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning once pain has subsided - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre activity warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - we will get some blood tests for you - serum vitamin d and serum potassium levels, esr and crp once you have all these reports then you can contact me as I can advise you for proper supplementation do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

Try some remedies for joint pain: -ice packs can be used to soothe hot, swollen joints. -heat packs help to relax tense, tired muscles. -splinting of swollen or painful joints may be helpful, a physiotherapist or an occupational therapist (ot) may provide temporary splints for you. -pace yourself: overdoing things can increase your pain, but so can not doing enough. Your physiotherapist can advise you on increasing your activity level at a rate you can cope with and on finding the right balance between rest and activity. -take regular graded exercise: graded exercise starts slowly and increases in small steps. This will help you to strengthen your muscles and joints and increase your fitness. Improving your general fitness and stamina will help you to increase your activity level without increasing your pain. -mobilising, stretching and strengthening: your physiotherapist will assess your muscle strength and the range of movement in your joints, and advise on techniques and exercises so you can keep your joints working as well as possible. Best wishes.

I'm getting ankle pains recently since 2 weeks .what is the cause? Medicine for this?
Ankle pain usually occurs because of injury in young age and most of the time because of ligament injury. To heal ligament injury use ice pack 25 minutes three times in a day for one week and stabilize ankle by crap bandage. Take ultrasound therapy over painful area. Remember if you don't have history of any injury don't take this treatment, send complete history of your problem.

It could be that the fascia of your foot that is muscle covering the sole must have been inflamed and become tight. It is called plantar fascitis. You should do contrast treatment of keeping your legs in hot and cold water alternately. Start and end with hot water. Start using footwear like chappals full time (at home) and proper shoes outdoors. Before putting initial steps you should try and move your ankle up and down, rotate, move your fingers and then step down. Kindly follow these.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Pain in calf muscles of legs could actually be due to a lot of reasons ascribed to anatomical structures like muscles, nerves, tendons, blood vessels etc. Can you tell me what has been the duration of this pain? is there any associated swelling or any other s/s of inflammation present? my advice is that you can start with conservative management and see how it goes for the next 2-3 weeks but there are some blood tests which I will like you to do - cbc, esr, crp, serum electrolytes, serum vitamin d levels ( empty stomach) do: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your heavy physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre match warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. I will be able to advise you in a better manner once I have these blood test reports. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

I have pain in my joints, whenever I do stretching exercise. After doing stretching exercise the pain remains for few days & if I do not do any stretching exercise then the pani vanishes. Please let me know, if this pain is because of muscle pain or something else.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Please let me know whether the stretching exercises done you is under supervision of a physical therapist or on your own? also please get you serum vitamin d levels and serum potassium levels done as any deficiency may be a cause of pain but since your pain becomes ok after some time I feel gradual built up of muscles with daily short increments will be useful. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

I have a knee problem. So when ever I stand up they sounds. And there is alot of pain also.
Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).
