Taking 6 litre is too much. Please reduce your intake to 3 litre per day. If it still persists, then only we will have to investigate further.

I am a 29 year old girl. An unexpected thing happened with me last night that I suddenly urinate on bed. This is very much unusual a I stopped bedwetting in my childhood decades ago. I am getting very upset now about this matter. And my question is that is this a symbol of any health problem? Or do I need to get precaution from now to get rid of such health problems?

MD - General Medicine
General Physician, Hisar
Occasional bed wetting if you had problem in childhood does not usually mean serious problem. It may not occur again. Do not drink water or more liquid food at night. Urinate before going to bed. You may get urine examination done for any infection. If there are pus cells in urine then antibiotic course may be needed. If it is recurrent then other options are available.

All About Diabetic Nephropathy

MBBS, MD - General Medicine, DM - Nephrology, DNB (Nephrology)
Nephrologist, Delhi
All About Diabetic Nephropathy

Nephropathy is also known as renal disease. It is any type of damage or disease relating to the kidneys. Though not everyone with diabetes has nephropathy, however, diabetic nephropathy can cause kidney failure.

How does diabetes affect the kidney?
Kidneys are responsible for taking waste out from your blood. They have a lot of tiny blood vessels to do this. High blood sugar may kill such blood vessels. Once these blood vessels are destroyed, the kidneys may not function as well or it may even lead to kidney failure.

What increases your risk of getting diabetic nephropathy?
There are several factors which increase your risk of getting diabetic nephropathy including: \

  1. High blood pressure
  2. High cholesterol
  3. Smoking
  4. Being Native American, African American or of Hispanic origin, for whom risk factors have proved to be magnified
  5. If you have family history of diabetic nephropathy

Symptoms and diagnosis:
There are very few noticeable symptoms, which appear when you have diabetic nephropathy, except swelling in your arms and legs. The diagnosis is done by checking for a type of protein in your urine known as albumin, which is not supposed to be there. Getting the diagnosis done early is crucial.

Preventive measures:
You can prevent kidney damage by doing the following:

  1. Keeping your blood sugar levels under control - keep HbA1C < 6-7%
  2. Keeping your blood pressure under control in the range of 130/80
  3. Eating healthy food
  4. Exercising regularly
  5. Not eating too much protein
  6. Not eating too much salt
  7. Reducing smoke or excessive tobacco usage

Medicines for treatment:
If you do get diabetic nephropathy, here are some medicines, which can help cure it

  1. ACE inhibitors which are also called angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors
  2. Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs)

Possible complications:

  1. Blood pressure may rise
  2. Triglyceride levels and cholesterol levels may rise.

Mr. Lybrate-user, with fbs 276 mg & pp 426 mg/100 ml, you have very severe uncontrolled diabetes. You need to start immediate treatment with appropriate anti-diabetes drugs. There is no option. Otherwise you are liable to get any one of the severe long term complications of diabetes. It is also necessary for you get your eyes checked to see if there is any affection to your retina. Your bmi is 28 kgs /m2 (normal <23 kgs/m2), showing over weight. Your ideal body weight should be 70 kgs. Hence your diet should be such tahe provides calories based on ideal body weight, daily exercise and blood glucose levels. When diabetes is in check fbs should be nearer 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg/100 ml & hba1c%<6.8. Otherwise there can be serious consequences. If you need specific treatment advise please come in a private conversation, where I will be able to advise specifically. Thanks.

Hi, I am male 18, I have been having stomach pain recently so I have done ultrasound, Everything was normal, and I have taken some medicines, it really help, but am still taking Feliser suspension syrup, so, I wanna ask am always feeling urge to urinate but it doesn't come easily and just a little, is it because of syrup I am taking? Or is there any other problem?

MD - Ayurveda

Hello, if your reports are normal you need detailed physical examination for your problem. By the time avoid junk food, spicy food specially green chilly. Eat watermelon sprinkled with black pepper and rock salt daily for 2-3 days but before 6 pm, drink coconut water. Soak raw jeera, saunf and shana each 1 tsf in 1 lit water at night. Next day morning filter it and drink 1-1 glass for whole day. Add again 1 lit of water in that mixture in the morning only and filter it in evening and drink till next morning. This will help in your urine problem. Regards.
