I am 22 year male recently analysed off having dyslexia and adhd which is affecting my studies and when inquired about how to help myself got a reply that an adult of this age cannot be helped what can I do about this.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
It is difficult to treat adhd at any time in life, period. So, considering advanced ages, it makes it tougher because the behaviors are all set in and reinforced. However, do not lose hope: there is nothing that is impossible in life except that we have not yet discovered the solution. Every effort is worth it and you should never be in want for not having tried. I also believe that something done is better than nothing done, even if it is wrong: passivity is criminal. You need to combine medication and therapy for something effective to emerge for you. There are three areas of focus in therapy that needs serious work: concentration, hyperactivity, and impulse control. You will need to put yourself on a strict time-structure with planned activities which have reasonable and reachable goals. These must be monitored and assessed regularly to give you an idea of progress. There are concentration exercises in yoga, and the ear and eye exercise, that will benefit you a lot. Meditation will be tremendously useful to moderate your responses and to develop focus and good self-control. Emotional therapy will play a significant role to alleviate the impulsive behavior to a large extent. If all this is done in a social context i. E. In groups or by mixing with other people, you will gain tremendously. You need to be cooperative at all times. Your diet could do with less carbohydrates and a good bit of fiber. It is best to avoid high-energy foods. Vigorous exercise of at least 30 minutes a day will expunge the high energy levels. The treatment is long term and arduous but it is worth putting in this effort for a reasonable outcome. Regarding the dyslexia there are reading exercises by using index cards that will help you with those words that you particularly read wrong. Some teachers who specialize in treating this disorder have equipment and methods that employ the four avenues of word-learning: visual, audio, kinesthetic and tactile. They employ and associate letter and word sounds i. E. From the phonics with the phonemes.

Hi. My baby is 2 months old. I am giving him breastfeed inspite of that he is hungry. I have done each n every possible way to increase the milk production but nothing could work. Can I give the baby cow's milk. Please suggest.

BHMS
Homeopath, Ahmedabad
Hello, First you need to be very sure that signs you are observing are of hunger and you are not over-feeding your baby. If breast milk milk is not adequate then you have few options 1. Formula milk as prescribed by your dietitian 2. Cow's milk 3. Goat's milk More preferable is formula milk as it would be sterile and consistent in quality. Please confirm with your paediatrician. Hope this helps! take care.

my son, he's 4 years complete, past 6 months both neck side some of the small lumps is there, I ask the pediatrician he said its a primary complex, but that time my son suffered fever.

MD Pediatrics
Pediatrician, Vadodara
You can go for investigations to rule out tuberculosis. Also the lympnodes might be enlarged due to local infection. A course of antibiotics if causes regression of size of lumps then tb is less likely. Also for primary complex (TB) the child must be having features of decreased appetite, weight loss, low grade fever, contact with person having TB or taking drug treatment for tuberculosis.

5 Habits That Make Living With Braces Easier

BDS, FICOI, MDS
Dentist, Mumbai
5 Habits That Make Living With Braces Easier

So you've decided to straighten your teeth and get a great smile that too naturally but the road to a brilliant smile comes with a guide map and here are some of the key stops.

1. Keep them clean

While braces are a great tool that work on natural teeth with no side effects, caring for braces is extremely essential in order to ensure that you don't end up with any post orthodontic dental work.

Braces be it metal or ceramic tend to accumulate food and in turn cause cavities or stains. A lot of people suffer from post braces unnecessary treatments only because they couldn't keep them clean.

2. Know what foods to avoid

Wherever you are in your braces journey remember when you started you were warned about a bunch of things you have to stop eating and drinking. That memory maybe fading away but the truth is the dietary restrictions need to be followed atleast to a certain extent if you want the braces off on schedule.

Foods like pizzas, sticky candies or biting into anything from your front teeth is a strict no as it'll cause the front braces to come off and besides interrupting the treatment you may also end up hurting yourself.

Sodas should be avoided as they cause the braces glue to dissolve and they come off your teeth earlier than we would want.

3. Bracket breaks

The system of braces is basically individual brackets that are placed on your teeth to move them and a wire that engages all these brackets together.

A common occurrence with braces is the brackets come off or break if you're not careful. When this happens it's like a derailing a machine everything comes to a standstill and its very important to get this fixed at the earliest for the treatment to continue efficiently.

Bracket breakage can be prevented by maintaining dietary precautions, efficient brushing and avoiding trauma to the face.

4. Be on the lookout for pain or blisters

Although less common now there's an occasional chance of slight pain or ulceration after braces are placed in the mouth for the first time. Our body is getting used to a large foreign object and it may react by rejecting the areas that hurt and forming an ulcer which may last a few days and settle.

The pain sensation of tightness and tooth movement can be eased with a mild anti inflammatory or pain killer on the first appointment if need be.

5. Don't miss appointments

Missing your regular dental appointment is bad enough but your orthodontic (braces) appointment is the most important day of the month for you. Skipping or missing this appointment disrupts the schedule of tooth movement and you may delay an already prolonged treatment procedure.

So if you want that brilliant smile be as soon as possible follow the steps above and you will breeze through your orthodontics treatment without a snag!

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Is the baby on bottle feeding. Then stop bottle feeding. You can give breast milk only. If you need to give other milk give it with spoon. Avoid bottle and nipple feeding. Next what medicine is being given. You need to add boiled water ( can be sweetened by adding raisins ) if fed on artificial milk. It has to be given by spoon and not bottle. Also need to screen for hypothyroidism. If you prefer private chat you can do it via this site. Happy parenting, regards.

I have a daughter age 10+years she has a problem of bed wet. wanted to get out from this problem please help me thank you.

M.D. Pediatrics
Pediatrician, Pune
This problem is called as Nocturnal Enuresis. Kindly get her Urine Routine and Urine Culture tested. Till then, make sure that she does not drink water atleast 2 hours prior hitting to bed. Start alarm technique, put alarm at around 2 am in morning and ask her to go to washroom. This will help her to pass residual volume. If you find, that she is bed wetting somewhere before 2 am then, adjust clock accordingly. Kindly visit your nearest pediatrician, as he is the best person to give medication. Hope this helps. Happy Parenting!

Hi my six months baby girl is crying very much. I have visited a doctor and he said that the baby is taking air during breast feeding. Is it true? what should we do during breastfeeding to avoid it?

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
What is weight? is she growing normally in spite of crying? if yes then, supporting the child by taking in lap, moving around by taking him on shoulder is needed. Some babies do cry for no reasons, they need feeling of security, tactile comforting, talking to him. It is passing phase and not going to last long. Meanwhile you can try giving colimex drops as and when required.
