Dear lybrate-user, There can be many factors due to which gaining proper weight is difficult. •Genetic •Improper diet. •Over active Lifestyle or high Metabolism. Tips to help you gain weight are:- 1.Increase your carbohydrate content in the once major meals. 2.Increase your snack size. 3.No fluids before and in between of meals. Increase concentrated calories like:- •Nuts and seeds for example: Almonds, peanuts and pumpkin seeds. •Increase your dairy and its products like: cheese and butter. Have short and intense workout instead of lengthy cardio dominated one.

You should go for brisk walk in the morning and evening. Take 0ne glass lukewarm water with lemon in the morning. Take lemon tea avoid milk tea. Drink more water in a day. Take small and frequent meals. Food slowly chew well and not to swallow. Avoid fried foods.

Your diet should be rich in proteins and carbohydrates i. E dairy products, non-veg, fruits (banana, dates, mango, anzeer) go for gym for 1 hour everyday.

I am suffering from weakness. I have lack of calcium, potassium and vitamin D in my body. So what should I do?

Norma level of vit d is between between 20-50ng/ml. A level less than 20 ng/ml indicates vitamin d deficiency. Vitamin d3 is essential for healthy bone, teeth, muscle, cell growth, immunity, neuro muscular functioning and overall health. Deficiency causes ricket/osteomalacia, poor hair growth, increased risk of cancer. Treatment-vitamin d3 60, 000 unit/wk for 3 -6months 1. Expose yourself to sunlight for 15-20 minutes daily in the morning 2. Take milk, cheese, egg yolk, fish (salmon/mackerel/ trout/sardines/tuna) cod liver oil, mushroom, cereals, orange juice. 3. If you have deficiency of vitamin d you have to take vitamin d supplement 60000iu/week fo r3- six months after consulting physician.

Dear user, in various kinds of salts, saindhav namak is good for health according to Ayurveda but it is not necessary to take it with water in the morning water intake in the morning with out thirst may lead to various diseases of gastro intestinal, it hampers hunger, have a bad effect on bones etc. One should avoid such kind of habits slowly if he feels thirsty in the morning advise to take of some sips of water, instead of a glass thank ylu.

Being a dietitian my views: there is no single diet chart for everyone. To plan a specific diet we do collect lot of information like height, weight, food frequency, digestive history, medical history, likes, dislike, lifestyle, eating habits. Remember one thing to follow a diet it should be personalized according to person's body type and not generalized. Starting with there is no pills or powder or shake which can help you to lose weight in a healthy way. To lose weight eat an hour within walking up and dinner at least 2 hours before you sleep. Avoiding eating anything after dinner. Breakfast should be your king size have good complex carbohydrates and protein rich. Eat every 2 hours small frequent meal do help in weight loss. And do not overeat. One can come to ideal body weight with few lifestyle modification. Have green tea only 2 cups a day. For exercise I would say diet plays 80 % role and exercise plays 20 % role in losing weight. Personal advise on gym. You should not make your body habituated with machines rather do simple walk or surya namaskar or planks. So only with healthy eating one can lose weight.

Hye, Thanks for the query. Firstly understand that weight gain is very dependent on genetics and metabolism. It is important to know that just eating just two heavy meals a day will not help. Eating the right foods at the right time is very important. Eat meals at frequent intervals. You have to eat 6 meals a day to increase intake. Eat a mid meal between each main meal. Avoid junk foods. Include dairy, eggs, nuts, fruits, starchy vegetables, rice, bread, smoothies, milkshakes, ghee in your meals. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Exercise at least thrice a week. Even if you were to take medicines or supplements they will not work in isolation You need to have a calorie and nutrient dense meal.

Hye. Thankyou for the query. The problem is that you are relying on just a supplement to gain weight. Just adding protein and excess of it may cause body to react. The moment you think of weight gain, whatever is your workout or diet intake, does not justify taking a supplement. You cannot gain weight by just adding a supplement to your diet. Weight gain needs additional calories through a balance of carbohydrates, proteins, healthy fats and exercise. Supplementation totally depends on your present food intake & activity levels. So, for weight gain you need a balanced, calorie dense diet and a good exercise routine. Even if you do gain weight it will reduce once you discontinue the supplement. So, before you decide to start the supplement first work on a healthy diet and exercise routine before again deciding to take the supplement.

Dear, *yoga, meditation, can be helpful in keeping the nervous system healthy. Pranayam, which is a breathing exercise, is the best way to prevent nervous weakness. *you should take proper balanced diet. *that means you have to take vegetables, milk, chapattis or rice, butter / cream, cereals (daals) or cheese every day. Very important thing, do not miss or skip your meals at any cost. *eat fruits which is high in energy like banana, chickoo, sitaphal, mango, grapes. ** proper 6-8 hours sleep is very important.

Hi I am having trouble with gaining weights since I was 16. So I started gym in 16 and do it about 4years not regular. But my weight never go above 57. I tried alot eat alot. I take whey protien supplement two times. 1st is locally made up not original but works well without any side effect. And the second one is origin number one brand ON I get it fron new your. Works great. But not gain any thing else. I got stomach infection 2times in 2years because of eating too heavy things in one time. Sick for a weak. I quit the gym in 2016 january. Because of negativity not gaining weight. I feel to dizziness laziness not energized every time every day. Pls help me.

Hye, Thanks for the query. Gaining weight requires you to eat more calories than you burn. Although fried or sugary foods are calorie dense, eating them exclusively won’t provide enough nutrition to keep you energetic and healthy. Eating several meals and snacks throughout the day and including nutritious, calorie-dense food will help you gain weight healthfully. Weight gain depends primarily on your genetics, age, weight and activity level. To gain weight, you need to eat more calories than you burn. If you’re not used to eating large quantities of food at one time, you may find it difficult to fit all of your calories into three meals per day. Eating nutritious, calorie-dense foods every two to three hours will help you get your calories in without making you overly full and sluggish. If you tend to forget to eat or are always on the go, bring calorie-dense snacks such as eggs, mixed nuts, fruits and dairy. Nutritious, calorie-dense foods provide essential vitamins and minerals, which promote good health and energy. Adding ghee and cream to foods adds additional calories for very little extra physical bulk. Fruit juice, masala milk provides crucial nutrients. Meal-replacement shakes and protein powder sound like good options but also remember that unless your diet is not planned sadly they won't help.

Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

As the month of ramazan begins muslims will indulge in fasting from sunrise to sunset for a month. Here are some health tips that will help during this month.

Before sunrise-

1. Please make sure you have sufficient food to help you atleast in the early hours of fast. Make sure you dont eat too oily or spicy food as this may cause heartburn and acidity later in the day.

2. Make sure you drink lots of water. Atleast 1 liter of water will help you during the day

3. If you area diabetic you can take your medications before food in the morning. However you should look out for hypoglycemia if you dont have enough food.

4. Hypoglycemia or low sugar can occur in diabetics. Hence it is advisable to look out for sweating, shivering, giddiness, loss of conciousness. If any of these occur you must take some sugar immediately otherwise low sugar can lead to loss of conciousness, coma and even death.

5. Diabetics with poor sugar control and people on insulin should be extremely cautious about the risk of low sugar and high sugar. Please ensure you check your blood sugar atleast twice a day or when you develop symptoms of hypoglycemia.

6. The key to diabetics fasting is that you should eat enough in the morning to help you through the day but in small quantities enough to control your sugar levels.

7. Taking a short walk is good after morning food.

After sunset-

1. Please dont indulge in breaking the fast by taking high calorie food such as soft drinks, fried items and excessive sweets.

2. Eat in instalments of 1-2hour gaps as sudden consumption of snacks and dinner in a short span will overload your blood with glucose.

3. A walk after iftar is good for digestion and metabolism.

4. Eat food atleast 2 hours before going to sleep.

5. The tendency to overeat is high after fasting. You can avoid this by taking lots of salads and fruits.

6. If you are a diabetic you must make sure that after breaking your fast you can take your medications 30 minutes before dinner.
