General Physician,
Most children show food refusal and you have to be patient with them You should have told me his weight and need to check his blood CBC and TFTGuidance & Tips for Parents Things to avoid •Do not refuse to give high-energy foods, like ice cream, cakes, biscuits and chocolate, in the hope that your child will eat 'proper' meals and 'healthy' foods. Reason: This is not a good way to get your child to eat new foods, and your child might lose weight if you withhold their 'safe' foods. •Do not try to force your child to eat food. Reason: This will make your child even more anxious at mealtimes, and may cause your child to vomit the food back up. •Leave long gaps between meals to try to make your child more hungry or hide new foods inside foods that your child already likes. Reason: This will make your child less hungry over time, and may lead to weight loss. Some children can very easily detect new tastes and smells, even when hidden in other foods. Your toddler may just stop eating the liked foods. Things that help •Encourage your child to experience different textures through 'messy' play every day. Your toddler may find some textures (like Play-Doh) very difficult, so start with textures that they are happy to touch. This may need to be drier consistencies initially, such as rice or lentils. Gradually progress to more messy/wet substances, allowing your toddler to gain confidence. Have plenty of fun and get messy. If you don't like touching certain textures yourself, or don't feel comfortable allowing your toddler to make a mess, then why not take them to a playgroup in your area? Reason: Many children who are extreme food refusers are very sensitive to touch on the hands and mouth, and so will not even pick up new foods. Messy play helps them to get used to new textures. •Give small frequent meals of foods that your child accepts. Reason: Some children become very anxious at mealtimes and are sometimes very slow eaters. Small frequent meals will help them to take in the calories that they need. •Remember, even children who are extremely faddy eaters usually grow and develop normally, if they are given the foods that they will accept. Reason: It is important to keep your child growing well, and these extreme food refusers do grow as we would expect them to if they have enough of the food that they will eat..

Good Morning Sir, It's problem of our relative. We did marriage to him recently Three months back. He says to his wife that he cannot lift any weight. He did not participate in "COHABITATION" till now. He says that he is getting tired. His legs are paining. He has "GADDALU" on whole part of testicles. We took him to doctor, Doctor said that there are "MULTIPLE SEBACEOUS CYSTS ON SCROTUM OF TESTICLES" He keeps his "PENIS" in "VAGINA" and sleeps on wife and he says he cannot do anything. 1) Would there be any problem in the future. He says that he will take treatment after 10 months. 2) Whether due to presence of this there is no chance of children to give birth. 3) Whether this "sebaceous CYSTS ON TESTICLES" occur overnight or it occurs during child birth. 4) Whether after surgery again this cysts regrow 5) Whether the wife can stay with her or should take divorce and marry another person or he can recover from it and participate in "COHABITATION" after some time. 6) How much time he should take rest after surgery. NOTE: He disclosed to his wife that he has an habit of "HAND PUMPING" from several years prior to marriage. Whether the problem caused due to this reason.

Nothing to worry. Cysts on scrotum can be removed in stage wise manner over a period of few months and heals nicely. Even with cysts he can consume marriage. We have successfully treated this type patients at our centre. However, he has to stop his habit of masturbation. No need for divorce as it is a minor issue.

Dyslexia - 10 Signs Your Child Maybe Suffering From It!

Dyslexia - 10 Signs Your Child Maybe Suffering From It!

All parents expect their child to start going to school, learn writing and learning and do well in academics. However, children with dyslexia may not be able to progress at school at the same pace as others. The good news is that there are early pointers that can help a parent to identify dyslexia in the early stages. This can be helpful in training and support the child socially to learn and socialise normally.  Dyslexia is a disability that affects both spoken and written language. They have a different learning style and when supported and encouraged, instead of mocked and insulted, they can become avid readers. The following are common 10 indicators of developing dyslexia in children, in general, and at school.

10 Behavioural signs to watch for in general:

  1. The child usually has difficulty concentrating and following instructions
  2. The child is easily distracted, seems to daydream, and tends to forget words.
  3. Poor personal organisation skills and is not very good at time keeping.
  4. May get confused between today, tomorrow, yesterday; east and west; right and left; up and down.
  5. Has difficulty remembering seasons, months and days.
  6. Tends to be doing something to avoid work.
  7. Seems distracted, and ‘daydream,’ does not seem to listen
  8. Requires a lot of effort focusing on things at hand and is constantly tired.
  9. Slow pace of processing in terms of spoken or written language
  10. Often appears withdrawn or lost in his own world.

10 Behaviours to watch for at school:

  1. Poor standard of writing and written work in comparison with oratory skills.
  2. Poor handwriting with badly formed letters.
  3. Confused easily between similar looking letters like m/w, n/u, b/d.
  4. Usually, messes up work by using close but wrong spellings and rewriting the same
  5. Mixes up words by using similar-looking words – quiet and quite, tired and tried.
  6. Same word is spelt differently at different times
  7. Poor motor skills and pencil grip leading to slow, inaccurate writing
  8. Produces a lot of phonetic spelling which does not change with repeated corrections
  9. There is difficulty in blending words together, and struggles a lot when asked to read out loud, can miss out or add words that are familiar in between
  10. Has difficulty connecting the story that is being written or read

As noted, these children have very inconsistent behaviour with very limited understanding of nonverbal communication. If these symptoms go on increasing as they grow, it is advisable to seek professional help so that support can be provided and the condition can be arrested at the early stages. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Psychiatrist.

Thinking of whitening your teeth? Start by speaking with your dentist. He or she can tell you whether whitening procedures would be effective for you.

If you have diabetes, you have a greater risk of developing certain oral health problems than people who don?t have diabetes. Controlling blood glucose (blood sugar) levels can reduce the risk of these effects.

A veneer placed over a tooth surface can greatly improve a tooth that is stained, badly shaped, crooked, or injured.

A balanced diet, limited number of snacks, brushing and flossing each day, and regular dental checkups are the keys to a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

If you are nervous about going to the dentist, tell your dentist and the dental staff. They may be able to adapt the treatment to your needs.

Use of stimulant decreases the symptoms to a much good effect and if we don't give stimulant medication there will be more of conduct disorder and progress in disease and for side effects we have to monitor the person and advice them accordingly.

Snuffle means" catarrhal discharge from the nasal mucous membrane in congenital syphilis in infants. But this can be nose block as the nose is not big in infants and most mothers complain this. You put Saline nasal drops and see.

seven years old children are supposed to eat by themselves in separate dish.they should sit besides their parents and eat by them selves.but nowadays with two children ,mothers prepare the dish asking the choice to their children.this is reason for poor appetite..junk market food is another reason for poor development.otherwise whatever older people eat is diet for seven year old.just add 300 ml milk a day.pulses and paneer, curd as source of protein. If you stick to what I have advised you will start getting results in two weeks time

My daughter was born on 21.10. 2015. She is now two weeks old. For the first week she was breastfed, but now I realized that my wife is not producing enough milk for feeding my daughter. We changed to Lactogen-1 formula milk feeding from past five days. My daughter was fine feeding on formula milk till date but suddenly today she vomited twice. I am worried what caused the vomiting. Kindly suggest what to do in this case. Is it improper digestion due to formula milk. If yes then what should I do? Also kindly suggest frequency of feeding formula milk to my daughter and in what quantity.

There is nothing better than breastmilk for your baby. She should be breastfed for her best health, and there is nothing like less supply in a mother. The breasts produce as much milk as the baby requires. Formula feed is not only difficult to digest, it can also lead to stomach infections if not prepared with proper hygiene. I am a lactation counsellor. Please tell me more about why you feel your wife isn't producing more milk and maybe I can help her.

Colic Pain - How to Treat It

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Delhi
Colic Pain - How to Treat It

When you have a newborn bundle of joy, no parent would be ready for constant crying bouts from the infant. However, for various reasons, even healthy, well-fed infants can be colicky.

What is it: Although a mystery, a baby is said to be colicky if it cries for more than 3 hours a day for more than 3 days a week for more than 3 weeks at a stretch. The baby is completely healthy, and the symptoms start about 2 to 3 weeks of life in both breast-fed and bottle-fed babies. The baby usually has a red face from crying and could be pulling its legs towards its chest due to the abdominal discomfort.

Causes: Though still not exactly established, some things that are believed to cause colic include:

  1. The baby's digestive system that is growing and goes through spasms
  2. Extreme sensitivity to noise and light in the surrounding environment
  3. Accumulation of gas in the belly that is ingested with the milk (breast or bottles)
  4. Hormones that are supposedly affecting the baby's moods

Treatment: As there is no specific cause identified, the treatment is also symptomatic and aims at soothing the baby's pain and discomfort.

  1. Altered feeding: Given that a baby's tummy is very small and is about the size of a fist, it makes sense to feed it small amounts at regular intervals than to give a full feed once in like 4 to 5 hours. The baby is sure to feel full with this and therefore the discomfort. Burping between the feed is also shown to help avoid feeling of fullness. If you are breast feeding, try to not let the baby doze off when feeding.
  2. Anti-colic bottles: These bottles have a vent inside the bottle which will help reduce the accumulation of gas within the bottle. There are various brands available in the market, these could be a good solution if the baby is even partially bottle-fed.
  3. Simethicone: This is an anti-flatulent, which again helps eliminate gas bubbles in the stomach and thereby provides relief to the infant. It can be given either by a dropper or a syringe.
  4. Exercise: Try bending the legs at the knee and holding it towards the baby's stomach, this can help ease the pain.

Remember that this is a very transient thing and usually disappears on its own by the 4th month, and the above measures are only to help the baby and the mother.
