Hello doc. My last period was 14th october. After that I got pregnant. Last saturday I went for an ultrasound and doc said your pregnancy looks like 6 weeks. According to my calculations it sud be 7th week. I came home. After 3 hours I suddenly started passing brown discharge. Panicked I immediately rushed to hospital. There my doc took 3 hrs more to attend. During that I once checked there was no bleeding. Bt before c checked my pad was wet with both brown and little red blood. C told me to get admitted. Said pregnancy is threatened. C gave me hope. Next day was sunday. Monday I had an ultrasound. She showed me and wat I noticed that wat I watched saturday now the shape of sac was smaller than half. Earlier also c did not find any heartbeat. C told me to see the sac leaving the line too. Bt c dint said it is miscarriage. Now also I am bleeding once ima day brown blood plus clots. Craving for your favourite food in the middle of the night, or even throughout the day, is a perfectly normal phenomenon. Although you deserve to be pampered with your favourite food, however, there are certain foods which irrespective of cravings you really need to avoid for the well being of that tiny little life inside you.
Here is a list of food items to be avoided during pregnancy.
Starting with fruits, papaya and pineapples are big negatives. These fruits contain substances that produce uterine contractions inducing labour, and thus, abortion.
Sesame seeds also tend to excite uterine muscles thereby causing contractions which may lead to abortion. So it would be an intelligent step to avoid intake of these. Other dry fruits like raisins, dates, almonds, walnuts, pistachios are safe to consume in a moderate amount.
Spices that make way into this list include fennel and fenugreek seeds. These may induce uterine contractions too.
Although fish is rich in omega 3 and is an important food to include in the pregnancy diet, intake of some sorts of fish might not be a good idea. Here is a list of the kinds of fishes that should be avoided.
Fishes containing mercury
Smoked or refrigerated seafood.
Fishes cultured in polluted water
Shellfish that is undercooked. Eg, clams, mussels, oyster
Undercooked or raw eggs may be tainted with salmonella bacteria that might cause vomiting and diarrhoea. Desserts or sauces containing raw or uncooked egg should be avoided.
Any form of undercooked or treated meat or poultry. This is because a parasite named toxoplasma may be present that might cause excessive food poisoning which in turn could cause foetal damage or miscarriage.
Milk is one of the essential foods in pregnancy diet; however, any sort of unpasteurized milk is strictly negative.
Sprouts and raw vegetables should be avoided. However, these can be eaten if shallow fried.
One major setback for coffee addicts is that caffeine intake is required to be lowered to minimum amounts; that is, not more than one cup a day.
Canned food as well as street food.

Self-monitoring of blood glucose (smbg) is very crucial for those diabetics who are on insulin or on certain oral anti-diabetic drugs which can cause hypoglycemia. To achieve best glycemic control it is essential to know how your daily blood glucose levels are fluctuating in an entire day.
It is easier for a diabetes specialist to adjust drugs or to adjust insulin dose if good smbg record is maintained by the patient.
Normally we check fasting and 2 hr post prandial blood sugar levels in the lab for routine follow-up. There is a bright chance of sugar excursions in the other post meal readings which get unnoticed. Even in case of hba1c or glycated hemoglobin test we get an average result of blood glucose of last 3 months.
In practice, I have seen several patients who had to fast and post prandial blood glucose lab tests in the normal range but hba1c levels below 7 is not achieved because they might have high blood sugars in other post meals which have got unnoticed.
To achieve the best blood glycemic control it is important to control blood sugar levels within normal limits during the entire day and not just fasting or post breakfast levels.
Interpretation of smbg chart:
In the above image of smbg chart, I have mentioned 7 point charting system where you can fill your blood glucometer readings which you take on several spots in an entire day.
Seven points includes:
Fasting or before breakfast reading
2 hrs after breakfast
2 hrs after lunch
2 hrs after dinner or bedtime
At mid night 3.00 am
This seven point smbg charting approximately covers entire day glucose fluctuations to some extent (of course not as accurate as cgms).
I have also mentioned a comment column in the above smbg chart where you can note down change in food or change in insulin dose or any other changes that you have made which probably caused unusual readings like for example if hypoglycemia occurs at before lunch reading and you have skipped breakfast or had very little snack at breakfast you can mention that.
You do not need to check daily all the 7 points, you can check any one or 2 points randomly depending upon your sugar control.
More uncontrolled blood sugars require more frequent smbg glucometer monitoring.
Monitoring of blood glucose at home in case of diabetic pregnancy or gestational diabetes is also important where frequent monitoring and smbg charting of glucometer readings helps a lot to the patient.
