How to talk to your Son about Periods?
Imagine yourself in a situation; your son will reach his puberty in next couple of years and you want him to reach this critical age with complete understanding of how a man and woman’s body works. This is not an imagination, but most of us either have already faced this situation or will going to face it in future.

Shivani Misri Sadhoo, an eminent psychologist in Delhi, today’s shares her tips on how to talk to your son about periods.

First you should start a direct conversation with your son; don’t run in circles, tell him about periods and patiently answer all his questions. Be as straightforward as you can. You can start your conversation like:

1. In your school you have seen older boys, their voices sound heavy like your father’s. This happens because when boys grow up they pass through a phase where lot of physical changes take place, both inside and outside of the body. This phase is called puberty.

2. During puberty a boy’s voice change, hair grows in his facial and genital region. Just like that, when girls hit their puberty they start menstruating.

3. Just like birds, mammals including humans come from an egg which is inside a girl’s body. The egg develops inside a girl every month though she doesn’t necessarily get pregnant every month. When the girl doesn’t get pregnant, the egg passes out of her body with some blood.

4. When a girl menstruates, her body sheds the lining of the uterus along with an unfertilised egg and it flows from the uterus to the cervix and out of her body through the vaginal opening. This whole process is called menstruation or periods.

5. A girl bleeds every month for around four or more days depending on her menstrual cycle. Yes, your mother goes through it too till a certain age.

6. For hygiene girls use sanitary pads, which absorb the blood. Hence, the pad is placed near the cervix covering the vaginal area.

7. During periods, some women might feel discomfort or pain in the lower abdomen area; others may feel a slight discomfort.

8. It is not something to be embarrassed by or something you should make fun of. It is very normal. It is a sign of a girl being healthy. Not getting periods on time is very unhealthy, and might prove to be a big medical problem.

My fallopian tubes are blocked. I m nt conceive. I want a child. please suggest me. What should I do?
Hello, considering the fact that you have been diagnosed with blocked tubes on hysterosalpingography (hsg), so I believe and the fact that you suffer from painful menses or dysmenorrhoea, there is all likelihood that you may be suffering from severe endometriosis which is causing the tubes to be adhesed and hence blocked. There is a requirement for confirmation of diagnosis with a diagnostic laparoscopy which happens to be the gold standard for endometriosis diagnosis. Further treatment can be streamlined if endometriosis is diagnosed. Also important would be to get a mantoux test done to rule out any pelvic tuberculosis.

Pancreatic Transplantation

DM in Nephrology, MD in Internal Medicine, MBBS

Ask Free Question
A pancreatic transplantation or pancreas transplantation refers to the surgical procedure, which involves replacing a dysfunctional pancreas with a healthy one. The donor of the pancreas is usually a deceased person. Pancreas is an important organ of the body as it produces several important hormones, which play significant roles regulating in our body cycles. Pancreas transplantation is usually performed for the treatment of type 1 diabetes which is linked to the inability of the pancreas to produce the insulin hormone.

A pancreas transplant is considered as one of the potential cures for type 1 diabetes. However it is not considered to be a standard treatment due to complications, such as:
1. Rejection of graft by the recipient body or similar complications
2. The medications which are given to prevent the rejection can have serious side effects too
3. Certain complications like blood clots or infections can occur following the procedure
4. Failure to control the blood sugar levels and rejection of the graft or complete pancreatic failure are
common complications that occur after a pancreas transplant

These are the primary reasons why pancreas transplant is often considered to be one of the last measures of treating diabetes. Nevertheless, there are certain conditions where a pancreas transplant is worth considering. Some of the conditions include diabetes which cannot be controlled with the usual treatment procedure, chronic poor blood sugar control, insulin reactions which turns chronic or a serious kidney disease.

Certain medications are also prescribed for anti rejection purposes. These medications need to be taken after the operation for the rest of your life to prevent rejection of the donor graft. These medications can have a few adverse side effects. Some of the side-effects include hypertension, thinning of your bones, unwanted weight gain and a rise in your cholesterol levels. Swollen gums or acne are also observed in several cases.

Often a pancreas transplant is carried out along with a kidney transplant, especially if you have a serious kidney condition. It helps to provide a healthy kidney and a pancreas and also reduces a risk of kidney damage caused due to diabetes later in the future.

Homeopathic Health Tonics for Generalized Body Weakness

Homeopathy has made its presence felt in treating almost all ailments. With an expansive ambit, this branch of medicine has been increasingly preferred to others due to its holistic advantages and no side-effects. Due to the emergent lifestyle, general tiredness and fatigue has become a second nature of people. In such circumstances, it becomes imperative to adopt certain remedial measures and homeopathy with its many benefits becomes the obvious choice.

Causes of chronic fatigue:

Unknown.

Prolonged stress.

Nutritional deficiency.

Iron deficiency anemia.

Low blood pressure (hypotension).

Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).

Allergies.

Yeast infection (candidiasis).

Infections such as mononucleosis.

Dysfunction in the immune system.

Hormonal imbalance.

Symptoms of chronic fatigue:

Extreme exhaustion.

Weakness.

Lack of energy.

Headache.

Low grade fever.

Sore throat.

Muscle and joint pains that radiate without swelling or redness.

Painful menstrual periods.

Inability to concentrate.

Forgetfulness or transient loss of memory.

Confusion.

Irritability.

Depression.

Visual disturbances.

Sleep disturbances.

Chronic immobility.

Homeopathic approach to chronic fatigue:

Homeopathic medicines treat chronic fatigue not by annihilating viruses, but by strengthening the vital force, which is an unintelligible, zestful, spiritual, and instinctive force that vitalizes our body, that balances many functions and provides protection from illness. In case of an illness, the symptoms are the signals or the outcry of the vital force, asking for help.

Homeopathic medicines have shown an overwhelming positive response in treating chronic tiredness by producing the best results. Based on the hypothesis of" like cures like" and a deep emphasis on the principles of holistic medicine (treat the whole person), homeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body's own healing power by introducing tiny doses of natural substances that enhances a person's immune system and defense system to heal itself naturally. Due to the individualized approach of homeopathy, a remedy which matches all of your symptoms will stimulate your vital force to restore balance and health.

Homeopathic medicines are completely safe with zero side effects. Sourced from natural substances, the homeopathic medicines help the chronic fatigue patients by increasing the body stamina and threshold for fatigue against a particular level of exertion. They also help in energising the body's immune system to come out of extreme physical or mental weakness and the person feels rejuvenated as a result.

Self help along with homeopathic treatment:

Along with constitutional homeopathic treatment learning how to manage your fatigue may help you maintain good health:

1. Stay well hydrated.

2. Eat a healthy diet.

3. Avoid refined foods, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, saturated fats.

4. Avoid mental and physical exertion during an acute illness. Get adequate rest.

5. Deep breathing and walking in fresh air can increase the energy levels.

6. Exercising regularly but without causing more fatigue.

7. Lifestyle changes - you can slow down and avoid excessive physical and psychological stress. This may save your energy for essential activities at home or work and help you cut back on less important activities.

8. Emotional support can help you and your loved ones deal with the uncertain outlook and the ups and downs of this illness.

Hence, eliminate all types of pathogens, strengthen your immune system, increase energy and combat fatigue with the help of homeopathy.
