Dear lybrateuser, - You can use cumin seed as whole by cooking with food as with rice, dal potato, curry etc or its powder, about one tablespoon in the whole day is enough - you can use turmeric powder in preparing various food items as well as have it mixed with milk or powder, in the whole day can have one fourth teaspoon in a cup of milk 2-3 times - for iron you can have other sources of food items like nonveg, spinach, kale, guava, Jaggery & also if still deficient then a supplement.

Whis is the better blood sugar test to follow: 1. venous, or2. Capillary. Finger tip using glucometer.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Whis is the better blood sugar test to follow: 1. venous, or2. Capillary. Finger tip using glucometer.
Mr JP Bayer, Both methods of testing blood glucose levels are quite valid and are useful. There is a difference in values for example capillary blood will show about 11% higher glucose because blood on the arterial capillaries has not given it glucose to muscles and tissues for utilisation. Where as venous blood which is going back to the heart after glucose has been used up by tissues and muscles, so value is slightly lower. However, now a days most modern glucometers have been caliberated to give glucose levels as in the venous blood. Major difference may be noticed only post food glucose levels. If one wants to do a self monitoring of glucose levels then glucometer is an excellent option.

Dear lybrate user, -It is not the number of carbs but the number of calories that are ingested which matters, therefore by reducing carbs you are reducing the number of total intake of calories -avoid processed carbs , have whole grains such as wholewheat bread/chapatti, brown rice, oatmeal , also can have veg soup -an early dinner by 7or 8pm is good as it helps in proper digestion & utilization of calories consumed during dinner.

It is natural for a man to feel erection when he is sexually aroused. The muscles, nerves, hormones and blood vessels all work together and maintain an erection. If a man is unable to obtain and maintain erection of penis during sexual activity if a man has difficulty in getting firm or erection or is unable to maintain an erection during the sexual penetration, he is most likely has a condition called Erectile dysfunction. It is normal for a man not to be able to achieve erection on some occasions, but if it is regular then it needs attention. Inability to achieve full erection could be either due to psychological or medical reasons and can be treated with right guidance and treatment. Psychological reasons includes chemistry with your sexual partner, any guilt, fear of intimacy negative feelings depressions can affect the erection. Medical conditions like thickening of the walls of the arteries, obesity, heart diseases, prostate disorder, any injury to the pelvic region or any other such underlying diseases that affects the proper flow of blood to the penis can cause erectile dysfunction. External factors like tobacco use, alcohol consumption and drug abuse can also restrict the blood flow resulting in erectile dysfunction. It will improve both your psychological and medical well-being. If any psychological factor is causing trouble, then meditation, breathing exercises like Pranayam staying away from stress and anxiety, talking more with your partner about the problem may help. Premature ejaculation happens shortly before or after penetration, although there is no precise "time limit" that defines it. Depending on different places and cultures it mostly means lasting less than two minutes. In order to deal with the problem, it's crucial to understand the causes of premature ejaculation. These causes can include excessive excitement, fear of performance problems and other forms of anxiety. It can also include physical causes such as acute hypersensitivity of the nervous system. Homeopathy  has 48 different remedies for PE. Each individual case is properly taken and analyzed to select the best remedy for a pericular person. The idea is to make a tailor-made prescription which usually has amazing effects with no side effects. you can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance

Symptoms and preventions for Menopause

Hi Good morning! I am doctor Aparna Jain, senior consultant obstetrics and gynaecology. Today we are discussing problems related to menopause. Average age of menopause in an average Indian woman is 48 years. 2/3 years beyond that and before that is the period of perimenopause. Lot of women suffer from problems related to menopause first of which is hot flashes, another is urinary problem and sometimes menstrual disorder. Then there can be joint pains as well.

1. Hot Flashes. In hot flashes women usually feel lot of sweating and nervousness. Deficiency of hormones lead to hot flashes, for that we need to supplement the woman with hormones and usually we ask to avoid taking hot drinks and advice to take natural isoflavones to avoid hot flashes.

2. Menstrual Disorder. Menstrual disorder usually happens in the form of either irregular periods or heavy menses and irregular period usually occur in the initial six months to one year time then the period usually stops. If the period continues to be irregular then we need to do investigation to find out whether this woman is having any benign disorder in the uterus or malignant disorder in uterus. For that we need to do an ultrasound of lower abdomen and if required a D&C Hysteroscopy to find out whether there is any growth inside the uterus and we send this tissue for histopathology to rule out malignancy. If the bleeding till persists then the woman may need hysterectomy in that age.

3. Urinary Problem. It is quite common. Usually women do not come out with this problem because they feel shy about disclosing it. The most common problems are either frequency or dysuria which means burning during urination. Another is stress incontinence. Whenever they sneeze or cough they pass small amount of urine. It is all because of hormonal deficiency. Because of which the lining of the urinary bladder as well as the lining of the vagina becomes thin so there is chances of recurrent infection and women suffer from this problem. For this we need to supplement the women with hormones as well as ask them to take natural sources of oestrogens like soya isoflavones.

4. Joint Pain. Usually this is because of the deficiency of Vitamin D and Calcium. For this we need to address and tell them to do lot of exercises and to take Calcium as well as Vitamin D
Usually we subject every woman with health package during menopausal period in which we include a pap smear, and ultrasound routine, blood test like CBC, blood count, as well as lipid profile and kidney function test, sugar, urine routine culture, ultrasound of lower abdomen and if required mammography and if we find any problem one can go for a cardiac check up also. And, usually we tell every post menopausal woman to do some amount of exercise and take calcium and vitamin d and plenty of liquids to avoid any problem related to postmenopausal.

Thank you very much. If you have any problem related to this you can consult me either on Lybrate or you can come down to my clinic.
