Backache is a common ailment. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Any way take ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days caldikind plus (mankind) 1 tab odx10days you will need other supportive medicines also. Take multivitamins & other antioxidants along with. Do back (spine) exercises make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take do ask for detailed treatment plan. Don? t ignore, lest it becomes starting point of a major problem.

Dear doctors, I am 33 years old and having a problem of gas releasing through mounth in the morning while wake up. Also it continues full day. I have this problem last two years. I have back pain problem. Is this two are related with each? can you suggest a way to solve it ?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. For your problems of gas, it will be appropriate for you to get in touch of a gastroenterologist for an opinion and relevant investigations. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc in case you are having back pain. If it aggravates in morning, most probably it is a sign of early rhumatoid. You should watch your food. Have light, easily digestible foods. Do not take milk, curd, rajma, chhole, paneer, fruits etc. Keep the bowels clear. Contact me privately for medical advice.

If you have pain during rest time that is your exam time and study must. Long sitting and forward bending both things crest back pain heat formation twice a day with rest time n stretch your back muscle. Take break evey half n hour otherwise you can go physiotherapy for muscle relaxion tens therapy bcoz this is your exam time to complete your study n for good exam.

Since each type of arthritis is different, each type calls for a different approach to treatment. That means an accurate diagnosis is crucial for anyone who has arthritis. With the proper diagnosis, you'll know what causes the pain. Then, you can be sure you're taking the proper steps to relieve the pain and continue to be active.
What are the common types of arthritis?
There are two major types of arthritis osteoarthritis, which is the" wear and tear" arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis, an inflammatory type of arthritis that happens when the body's immune system does not work properly. Gout, which is caused by crystals that collect in the joints, is another common type of arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis, lupus, and septic arthritis are other types of the condition.
What is osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis is also called degenerative joint disease or degenerative arthritis. It is the most common chronic joint condition in adult female and male. Osteoarthritis results from overuse of joints. It can be the consequence of demanding sports, obesity, or aging. If you were an athlete or dancer in high school or college, you may be wondering why your knee or hip aches when you climb out of bed in the morning. Ask your doctor about osteoarthritis. It can strike earlier in life with athletes or those who suffered an injury in young adulthood. Osteoarthritis in the hands is frequently inherited and often happens in middle-aged women.

Osteoarthritis is most common in joints that bear weight such as the knees, hips, feet, and spine. It often comes on gradually over months or even years. Except for the pain in the affected joint, you usually do not feel sick, and there is no unusual fatigue or tiredness as there is with some other types of arthritis. With osteoarthritis, the cartilage gradually breaks down. Cartilage is a slippery material that covers the ends of bones and serves as the body's shock absorber. As more damage occurs, the cartilage starts to wear away, or it doesn't work as well as it once did to cushion the joint. As an example, the extra stress on knees from being overweight can cause damage to knee cartilage. That, in turn, causes the cartilage to wear out faster than normal.

As the cartilage becomes worn, cushioning effect of the joint is lost. The result is pain when the joint is moved. Along with the pain, sometimes you may hear a grating sound when the roughened cartilage on the surface of the bones rubs together. Painful spurs or bumps may appear on the end of the bones, especially on the fingers and feet. While not a major symptom of osteoarthritis, inflammation may occur in the joint lining as a response to the breakdown of cartilage.

Depending on which joint or joints are affected, may include:
Deep, aching pain
Difficulty dressing or combing hair
Difficulty gripping objects
Difficulty sitting or bending over
Joint being warm to the touch
Morning stiffness for less than an hour
Pain when walking
Stiffness after resting
Swelling of joint
Reduced movements
2. Gout
Gout is a another type of arthritis that is characterized by sudden, severe attacks of joint pain with redness, warmth, and swelling in the affected area. It usually attacks only one joint at a time. It most often strikes the joint of the big toe, where it's also known as podagra, but other toes can also be involved. Gout is typically a condition that occurs in middle age, is ten times more common in men than in women, is unusual in people under the age of 30, and is rarely seen in women before menopause
Causes of gout
The pain and swelling of a gout attack are caused by uric acid crystals building up in the joint and leading to inflammation. The body normally forms uric acid when breaking down cells and proteins, releasing it into the bloodstream. The uric acid usually stays dissolved in the blood and ends up being flushed out by the kidneys. If there's too much uric acid in the blood, called hyperuricemia, or if the kidneys can't get rid of it quickly enough, it may begin to form crystals that collect in the joints and even the kidneys, skin, and other soft tissues.
3. What is rheumatoid arthritis?
Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease. That means that the immune system attacks parts of the body. For reasons that aren't clear, the joints are the main areas affected by this malfunction in the immune system. Over time, chronic inflammation can lead to severe joint damage and deformities. About three out of every five people who have rheumatoid arthritis develop lumps on their skin called rheumatoid nodules. These often develop over joint areas that receive pressure, such as over elbows, or heels.
Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis?
Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis can come on gradually or start suddenly. Unlike osteoarthritis, symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are often more severe, causing pain, fatigue, loss of appetite, stiffness. With rheumatoid arthritis, you may feel pain and stiffness and experience swelling in your hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, knees, ankles, feet, jaw, and neck.
4. Psoriatic arthritis
Do you have psoriasis? if so, it's important to pay attention to your joints. Some people who have psoriasis get a type of arthritis called psoriatic arthritis. This arthritis often begins with a few swollen joints. A single finger or toe may be get affected first. Some people feel stiff when they wake up. As they move around, the stiffness fades. Most people get psoriatic arthritis about 5 to 12 years after psoriasis. This arthritis can show up earlier. Some people get psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis at the same time. A few get psoriatic arthritis first and psoriasis later. If you have psoriasis, there is no way to tell whether you will get psoriatic arthritis. This is why it is important to pay attention to swollen joints. An early diagnosis and treatment will help. These can reduce the effect that arthritis has on your life.

Psoriatic arthritis is a chronic disease characterized by inflammation of the skin (psoriasis) and joints (arthritis). With psoriasis, there are patchy, raised, red, and white areas of skin inflammation with scaling. Psoriasis usually affects the tips of the elbows and knees, the scalp, the navel. Majority of people with psoriasis also develop an associated inflammation of their joints called psoriatic arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis can cause a sausage-like swelling of fingers and toes and is often associated with fingernails that are pitted or discolored. In some people with psoriatic arthritis, only one joint or a few joints are affected. For example, a person may be affected in only one knee. Sometimes the spine is affected, or just the fingers and toes.

Psoriatic arthritis usually strikes around the age of 30 to 50, affecting both men and women equally. But it can also start in childhood. The skin disease (psoriasis) and the joint disease (arthritis) often appear separately. In fact, the skin disease precedes the arthritis in nearly 80% of patients.
Homeopathic management of arthritis

History of back problem from 20 years. Present position is uncomfort in legs every time, specially at night. Very Severe pain with pressure most of the time in legs which is unbearable. Little Swelling in legs and feet but it's painful while pressing them. Back is having less pain but legs are all time pressurized. Main problem right now is sudden pain starts up to the point of blast specially near ankle. Also unable to bend knees. I am looking for vascular doctor.

A check up of thyroid and suger levels do strength exercise in gradually process and nutrition must apply ice pack on swelled area and do hot fermentation for knee and avoid long standing and cross legs and squatting. And you can go near physio center to reduce leg and knee pain and learn strength exercise.

I have pain on the upper and below knee joint and not at the knee joint. This pain is only experienced during sitting down and rising up from the floor when we need to bend our knee below 90 degrees. If I apply some ointment recommended by my doctor, I feel relaxed for few hours but again it comes back. Can you let me know if it is related to knee joint or is it muscles related and what is the remedy to permanently get relief of this pain.

According your age put a towel roll under knee and press for 10 sec then release repeat 10 time do thrice a day and tens therapy and ultrasonic therapy for muscle relaxation x-ray must bilateral knee for further preventions.

Sir, i have back left lumber spin pain since 2 months. unable to stand/sit more than 3 hours. no pain while sleeping. mri scan report is" bulging disc with broad central left paracentral protrusion at l5-s1 level narrowing spinal canal, left lateral recess, indending the the cal sac, bilateral moderate inferior neural foraminal compromise & slightly indenting the traversing nerve roots on lest side. is it must to go for surgery, can it recovered with physiotherapy?

Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back Stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both knees towards the chest and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times each exercise twice a day. Do the cat/cow stretch. Get on all fours, with your arms straight and your hands directly under your shoulders; your knees hip-width apart.

Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

Increase the quantity of fruits and vegetables and low calorie foods. Avoid intake of too much salt as it may be a factor for increasing body weight. Milk products like cheese, butter etc. And non-vegetarian foods should be avoided as they are rich in fat. Mint is very beneficial in losing weight. A chutney of green mint with some simple spices can be taken with meals. Mint tea also helps. Spices like dry ginger, cinnamon, black pepper etc. Are good for loosing weight and can be used in a number of ways. Regular intake of carrot juice. Avoid rice and potato, which contain a lot of carbohydrates. Among cereals wheat is good. Vegetables like bitter gourd (karela), and bitter variety of drumstick are useful in loosing weight. Honey is an excellent home remedy for obesity. It mobilizes the extra deposited fat in the body allowing it to be utilized as energy for normal functions.

I met up with an accident 2 years ago. And my left ankle was having minor ligament injury. But the pain is still continuing. I am not able to walk much or stand much I am having lot of pain in my ankle. I showed many doctors bt still no solution have come up.

Your symptoms are most likely due to plantar fascitis which is inflammation of plantar fascia at sole of feet. The treatment mostly is conservative and lifestyle modifications to achieve maximum functionality with minimum pain. Follow these lifestyle changes religiously to get benefit. 1. Reduce body weight as obesity will aggravate the stress on heel. 2. Avoid exercises like running / walking on hard surfaces. Stop such activities when you start developing pain. 3. Roll your feet on bottle of cold water for 20 mins 4 times a day or can apply ice pack. 4. Use shoes with silicone sole inserts. 5. Do calf muscle and heel stretches daily. 6. Avoid prolonged standing or sitting. 7. Use night splint to keep foot flexed at night. Stop using it once pain is relieved. 8. Use analgesics like Ibuprofen for decreasing pain and inflammation. With proper lifestyle changes as above 90 % patients have relief and functionality. For any query consult again.
