My blood is o+ve, I am suffering with malaria from last year july. Till now its infected 3 times. Why its coming again and again. Two time I used aristro antibiotic and laminate xp60 course.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
General Physician, Delhi
Dear , how old are you? what were the pro lens when you were diagnosed with malaria each of the times? what medications have you taken in the past? what strain of malaria is it? is it vivax or falciparum or is it different every time? vivax type malaria can recur because it can be in a dormant stage in your liver. However if it was diagnosed only in your blood sample by antibodies or the gametocytes, these will not be considered as malaria disease as these can be present even for long times after you have recovered from it.

Do you have Mood swings before periods?

MBBS, DGO, MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MRCOG
Gynaecologist, Delhi

Do you have Mood swings before periods?

It is possible that like millions of women worldwide, you could also be suffering from PMS or Premenstrual Syndrome.
PMS is diagnosed if a woman persistently (more than six months) seems to be suffering from a group of symptoms. Mood swings, irritability, feeling of loss of control, bloating, headaches, breast pain etc are part of the symptoms.

These symptoms appear a week or ten days before the onset of periods and subside when the menstrual bleeding starts. The first two weeks from the onset of periods are relatively easier and symptom-free.

7 Tips to reduce your mood swings:

1) Well, the first thing to do is to tackle the situation head on rather than feeling helpless over the whole situation. Stop blaming other people in your life like your husband, brother, children or mother-in -law for your mood swings.
Accept that this situation happens to many other women like you and you are not alone.

2) Try practicing relaxation techniques like Meditation, Yoga, deep Breathing exercises and Pranayam. It helps you give greater insight, to calm down and reduce the extent of swings.

3) Chamomile tea and Supplements contain Evening Primrose oil which is available over the counter may help to soothe frayed nerves.

4) Eat a healthy diet and avoid high salt and sugar containing foods. Include fresh fruits and salads in your diet. Your diet should contain enough vitamin B,D, and calcium. If you are not sure about the diet, you could take supplements for a few days and see if it makes a difference.

5) Exercise regularly, even if it is for 20 min a day. Get outdoors and try to get the benefits of early morning sunshine.

6) Get enough sleep and listen to the signals your body sends you about fatigue and rest. Allow your body to rejuvenate and renew.

7)If nothing works and your mood swings threaten to upset your social or personal lifestyle, please consult your gynecologist who may want to prescribe pills to tackle the whole situation. Anti-anxiety drugs sometimes help to correct the balance of a chemical called serotonin.

My baby is 10+ and teething. She doesnt eat or drink anything. How can I help her?

Interesting Dental Facts and Tips for Healthy Teeth

Interesting Dental Facts and Tips for Healthy Teeth

Maintaining good oral hygiene is very simple if you follow these basic tips and incorporate some healthy habits in your daily routine. A little care goes a long way in ensuring that your smile stays bright and your teeth stay strong. A healthy smile resides in a healthy body. Value your smile and follow these simple tips for your oral health.

  • Going to the dentist at least twice a year is the best preventive measure that you can take to spot anything unusual going on in your mouth or jaws.
  • Brushing twice daily with a fluoridated toothpaste is very important for healthy, cavity-free teeth. Don't aim to simply scrub your teeth, rather clean them gently using proper brushing technique.
  • Many people don't consider Flossing to be essential for oral health but if you don't floss, you miss cleaning almost 35% of your tooth surfaces. If you're unaware of the technique, ask your dentist to demonstrate it for you.
  • If you often find food particles getting stuck between your teeth, use an interdental brush or floss but Don't ever dig in using a toothpick. It leads to gum recession.
  • Using a frayed, worn out toothbrush for your teeth is as good as not brushing at all. Make sure you change your toothbrush after every 3 months. Keep it at least 6ft away from the toilet area. Keep it dry as a wet toothbrush attracts bacterial growth and clean it ocasionally by washing it with warm water to get rid of the bacteria.
  • The tongue plays an important role in reducing bad breath but it is often forgotten while brushing. Keep your tongue clean and scrape off all food debris using a tongue cleaner.
  • Having a good diet is equally vital for your oral health as it is for your overall health. Include healthy, Vitamin C rich citrus fruits in your diet as they are highly beneficial for your gum health. Consume plenty of water and fluids to keep yourself hydrated. It also helps in reducing the incidence of mouth ulcers. Avoid taking excess of aerated drinks/soda.

Ways To Treat Dry Skin!

MBBS, MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy

Ways To Treat Dry Skin!

Dry skin is a condition caused by the lack of moisture in skin. Fine lines and wrinkles are just some of the conditions, which may be caused due to dry skin. Dry skin can also be very uncomfortable. The condition is mostly caused by environmental factors such as exposure to harsh weather conditions or getting soaked in hot water.

People at risk:

  1. Age: People who are older than 40 years of age tend to be more at risk of dry skin than people who are younger than 40 years.
  2. Climate: As mentioned earlier, weather conditions play a pivotal role in causing dry skin. Therefore, people who live in areas where the climate is either very hot or very cold tend to get dry skin more often than people who live in temperate climates. Low humidity is another factor which causes dry skin.
  3. Profession: Some professions, such as nursing or hairstyling requires frequent usage of hot water all through the day, which can also lead to dry skin.
  4. Swimming: Swimming is one of the major causes of dry skin. This is especially true in pools, which have chlorine. This is because chlorine increases the itchiness on your skin.

Treatments:

  1. Lifestyle changes: Usually, lifestyle changes such as avoiding long, hot showers and putting moisturizers are good enough to make sure that dry skin goes away.
  2. Lactic acid: Creams with lactic acid and urea can be prescribed by your doctor, if the dryness of your skin does not go away with moisturizers. These creams are usually over-the-counter medications.
  3. Prescription creams: Prescription creams are given, only when conditions such as dermatitis, psoriasis or ichthyosis are present.
  4. Wet dressing: Wet dressing is given only when dermatitis has set in, as it mostly help in preventing the infection.
  5. Oiling: Oiling your body, especially with fish or flaxseed oil, ensures that your body does not succumb to dry skin.
  6. Hand sanitizer: Normal hand sanitizers tend to make your hands dry. Thus, dermatologists recommend hydrating hand sanitizers that allow your hands to maintain their moisture. Therefore, whenever you are using a hand sanitizer, use a hydrating one.

My 6 years old special child grinding teeth a lot what to do can anyone help me in this.

My 6 years old special child grinding teeth a lot what to do can anyone help me in this.
Hi lybrate-user, habits like thumb sucking, nail biting or teeth grinding are quite common in kids. There can be numerous reason for this, but mostly at the six, 1st permanent molar erupts so occlusion (pattern of biting) changes so this could be the reason for grinding. Now biteguards which he/she can wear at night can help to reduce this grinding. Hope this helps.

How to stop hair loss? At age of 18 my hair is falling very much. Give me solution for that.

How to stop hair loss? At age of 18 my hair is falling very much. Give me solution for that.
Hair loss, also known as alopecia or baldness, refers to a loss of hair from the head or body. Baldness can refer to general hair loss or male pattern hair loss. Hair loss and hypotrichosis have many causes including androgenetic alopecia, fungal infection, trauma (e.g. Due to (trichotillomania), radiotherapy, chemotherapy, nutritional deficiencies (e.g. Iron deficiency), and autoimmune diseases (e.g. Alopecia areata). Symptoms of hair loss include hair loss in patches usually in circular patterns, dandruff, skin lesions, and scarring. Alopecia areata (mild - medium level) usually shows in unusual hair loss areas e.g. Eyebrows, backside of the head or above the ears where usually the male pattern baldness does not affect. In male-pattern hair loss, loss and thinning begin at the temples and the crown and either thins out or falls out. Female-pattern hair loss occurs at the frontal and parietal. People have between 100,000 and 150,000 hairs on their head. The number of strands normally lost in a day varies, but on average is 100. In order to maintain a normal volume, hair must be replaced at the same rate at which it is lost. The first signs of hair thinning that people will often notice are more hairs than usual left in the hairbrush after brushing or in the basin after shampooing. Styling can also reveal areas of thinning, such as a wider parting or a thinning crown More than 95% of hair loss in men is male pattern baldness (MPB. MPB is characterized by hair receding from the lateral sides of the forehead (known as a "receding hairline") and/or a thinning crown (balding to the area known as the ‘vertex’). Temporary or permanent hair loss can be caused by several medications, including those for blood pressure problems, diabetes, heart disease and cholesterol. Any that affect the body’s hormone balance can have a pronounced effect: these include the contraceptive pill, hormone replacement therapy, steroids and acne medications. Some treatments used to cure mycotic infections can cause massive hair loss. Traction alopecia is most commonly found in people with ponytails or cornrows who pull on their hair with excessive force. In addition, rigorous brushing and heat styling, rough scalp massage can damage the cuticle, the hard outer casing of the hair. This causes individual strands to become weak and break off, reducing overall hair volume. Trichotillomania is the loss of hair caused by compulsive pulling and bending of the hairs. Onset of this disorder tends to begin around the onset of puberty and usually continues through adulthood. Due to the constant extraction of the hair roots, permanent hair loss can occur. Traumas such as childbirth, major surgery, poisoning, and severe stress may cause a hair loss condition known as telogen effluvium, in which a large number of hairs enter the resting phase at the same time, causing shedding and subsequent thinning. Hair loss often follows childbirth without causing baldness. In this situation, the hair is actually thicker during pregnancy due to increased circulating oestrogens. After the baby is born, the oestrogen levels fall back to normal prepregnancy levels, and the additional hair foliage drops out. A similar situation occurs in women taking the fertility-stimulating drug clomiphene. Hypothyroidism (an under-active thyroid) and the side effects of its related medications can cause hair loss, typically frontal, which is particularly associated with thinning of the outer third of the eyebrows (also seen with syphilis). Hyperthyroidism (an over-active thyroid) can also cause hair loss, which is parietal rather than frontal. Temporary loss of hair can occur in areas where sebaceous cysts are present for considerable duration (normally one to several weeks). Gradual thinning of hair with age is a natural condition . This is caused by an increasing number of hair follicles switching from the growth, or anagen, phase into a resting phase, or telogen phase, so that remaining hairs become shorter and fewer in number. An unhealthy scalp environment can play a significant role in hair thinning by contributing to miniaturization or causing damage. Air and water pollutants], environmental toxins, conventional styling products and excessive amounts of sebum have the potential to build up on the scalp. This debris can block hair follicles and cause their deterioration and consequent miniaturization of hair, It can also physically restrict hair growth or damage the hair cuticle leading to hair that is weakened and easily broken off before its natural lifecycle has ended. In homeopathy after proper case taking medicine will be prescribed accordingly. So pls consult either to a homeopath nearby your residence or you can consult me via Lybrate. General medicines are arnica, jaborandi which are easily available in oil base. Some very good shampoos are also avialable in homeopathy which prevent hair fall and early greying of hairs.

It may be that the cavity may have reached more depth or the gums around the tooth got separated.. or the feeling was not done properly though there are very less chances of that... My advise is to use homoeopathic toothpaste heklalava by wheezal pharmacy. Take vitamin c And you may also massage the gums with the mixture of turmeric and a little amount of salt.

Hi Mr. lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking guidance. As far as I understand, not all dyes will potentially cause cancer. But some, dyes especially the semi-permanent and permanent ones, may have certain chemicals that are carcinogenic. One needs to consciously reduce exposure to such dyes to be on a safer side. You may as well choose a suitable natural hair dye instead. I declare no conflict of interest while I state the above-mentioned. Hope this clarifies. Do take care.
