What kind of food habit can able to cause ulcer and stomach cancer? Are they have any difference?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Spicy food, smoked salmon and fish, lots of chilli, apprehensive people are more likely to develop ulcers. There is a bacteria helicobactor pylori also responsible for both ulceration and cancer. Ulcer is simply breach in mucosa, whereas cancer is abnormal growth which may spread to other parts also.

My mother underwent lumpectomy breast surgery. As per biosphy report, size of tumour is 3 cm x 2.5 cm x 0.8 cm and type of breast cancer is Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, left breast (pT2pN0pMx), Nottingham Grade 2. All the thirteen lymph nodes were free of tumour. ER, Pr report is positive and HEr 2neu is 3 positive. What does this means and here chance of cure. Whether chemotherapy is required and how much does it cost. Kindly guide me.

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, FBD (Fellowship in Breast Diseases), UICC Fellowship
Oncologist, Pune
Her chances for survival are good. As she is her-2 Positive she will require chemotherapy+ targeted therapy+ hormonal therapy (Er, Pr positive). And she will also require radiotherapy. Cost varies. From place to place.

Do cancers are somehow related to heredity as I have seen many cases where cancer patients parent or uncle / some family member was also affected by same disease.

MS ( General Surgery)
Oncologist, Mandsaur
Some types of cancer run in certain families, but most cancers are not clearly linked to the genes we inherit from our parents. In this section you can learn more about the complex links between genes and cancer, as well as genetic testing and how it is used.

My grandmother is suffering from breast cancer. Is there is medicine without chemo?

Fellow Breast Surgery (MUHS), DNB (General Surgery), MBBS
Oncologist, Aurangabad
Hello. Whether a patient receives chemotherapy or not in case of breast cancer will totally depend on the stage of disease at presentation to the doctor. If your doctor has prescribed chemotherapy, there are very good chances that it is mandatory. There are very few but well identified instances when chemotherapy is either not required or can be avoided safely or avoided in view of risk of side effects being more possible than the benefit. Other than stage, the things that influence this decision, are age, any other diseases like diabetes or high blood pressure, etc. The biology of cancer e. G. If er, pr positive disease and whether the disease has already spread but not causing any functional harm. Such a decision has to be taken by a well learned and well experienced doctor, along with an informed decision. From patient. I can guide more only with more of patients details.

Can we share our food with the cancer patients. Or can we eat with him or his left food ?

Fellowship in Bleeding and Thrombotic disorders, F.N.B Pediatric Hematology Oncology, MD - Paediatrics, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), M.B.B.S.
Pediatrician, Delhi
It is not proper for a cancer patient to eat someone else's left over food. You could however eat with him and share the same food cooked at home.
