Ear blockage can be due a problem in the external ear ( like wax, fungal infection etc) or in the middle ear ( fluid behind the eardrum due to cold,Eustachian tube dysfunction etc)You need to be examined by an ENT surgeon for diagnosis.

Please note that for the said reason you need to give your LMP - last menstruating period/date based on which one can suggest anything. Mere feeling of dizziness does not necessarily indicate you are pregnant. It may be due to low glucose level in blood/low blood pressure/low HB%,etc

I have had a pock inside nose, it's unbearable, some suggested to put ghee, please suggest what to do.

MS , MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Bangalore
Hi. There are hair follicles in the outer part of the nostrils and they can get infected some times because of even trivial trauma and cause a pustule. You need to take antibiotics and antiinflammatory medicines and apply topical steroid based antibiotic ointment. If this does not resolve the problem then pus has to drained.

I have a problem with my nose. Sometimes I smell a very awkward odour from my nostrils. Even other people can smell it sometimes and it's not a very pleasant feeling.

DORL, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Faridabad
Yes lybrate-user, this what you are telling me is something like atrophic rhinitis. First of all you need to go for ct scan of the nose, than exactly we can conclude about your diagnosis. Please get it done and let us know.

How long does it take for an inner ear infection to get fully recovered. I have been feeling dizzy for the past one month now! I was on cinnarizine 15 mg twice a day for a week. Now my doc suggested stemetil 5mg which have been taking 3tabs daily for the past 3 days. No improvement yet. I am growing worried. Is this normal? does it take so long for an inner ear infection to get treated? do I need to see an ent specialist. Please advise.

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Delhi
Definitely u should consult an ent specialist. Its not necessarily inner ear infection, cause can be bppv benign paroxysmal positional vertigo that occurs due to dislodgment of some particles in the inner ear from one place to another and this can be corrected by a manouvre done by an ent specialist.

What is the reasons for getting Snoring in nights and how to overcome from them, getting to much problem with Snoring. Is there any medication for to avoid the Snoring.

BAMS
Ayurveda, Bangalore
Hi, please follow these tips to stop snoring: - reduce your weight if you are obese. - perform pranayama (breathing exercises) everyday. - quit smoking which irritates the mucosal layer of the nose and throat and causes blockage and results in snoring. - quit alcohol and sedatives which relax the throat muscles and results in snoring. - sleep on sides instead on back. - elevate the head by using a thick pillow which eases the breathing. - clear the nose before going to bed. - establish regular sleep pattern. - keep the bedroom air moist by using humidifier; as dry air irritates the mucosal membrane in the nose and throat. - perform throat exercises like repeating the vowels a, e, i, o, you loudly for 2-3 mins few times a day or keeping the tongue behind the teeth and moving it backwards - 3-4 times a day. - anti snoring appliances can also be used.

I am a 26 year old male frombangalore. Am having sinus from past four years .Is there any treatment to cure ?

BHMS
Homeopath, Chennai
Sinusitis is an inflammation, or swelling, of the tissue lining the sinuses. Normally, sinuses are filled with air. But when they become blocked and filled with fluid, germs (bacteria, viruses, and fungi) can grow and cause an infection. Conditions that can cause sinus blockage include the common cold, allergic rhinitis (swelling of the lining of the nose), nasal polyps (small growths in that lining), or a deviated septum (a shift in the nasal cavity). Homoeopathic constitutional treatment will give you permanent cure, your detailed case history will be required.

Overview on Nose Surgery

DNB, MCh - Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, MS - Plastic Surgery, MBBS
Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon, Delhi
Overview on Nose Surgery

A nose surgery (rhinoplasty) is performed to remove polyps and other blockages, alter the structure and shape of your nose and improve its function and or appearance. Here are a few things you should know about nose surgeries:

Deciding on surgery: Before deciding on undergoing nose surgery, consult with your doctor regarding issues related to your nose. Your doctor will check your problems and judge whether or not surgery is a feasible option. It is only with your doctor's confirmation that you should go for the surgery.

The procedure: The surgery is done either with local anesthesia (your nose and surrounding areas will be numbed) or general anesthesia (you will fall asleep). The surgeon will make incisions in your nostrils and base of the nose and alter the shape, structure and position of the cartilages in your nose for appealing shape and better functionality. Polyp removal is also done by rhinoplasty.

Recovery: After the surgery you will be required to wear a nose splint. You can expect swelling around the eyes, which will begin to subside after the third day. Swelling in the nose will go away after six months. Therefore, do not expect to see your results immediately, final condition of your nose will be apparent after the recovery period is over.

  • You should avoid strenuous activity for three to six weeks.
  • Do not smoke or drink alcohol during recovery. Smoking slows recovery time and alcohol reduces normal effects of drugs.

Will you develop scars?

As with all cosmetic procedures, rhinoplasty can leave scars. In closed rhinoplasty, incisions are made inside the nostrils and hence there is no scarring. In open rhinoplasty, an additional cut is made along the columella and this may result in scarring. However, the position of the scar is such that it is almost unnoticeable.

Risks: Any surgical procedure has certain risks. These risks associated with nose surgery include:

  1. Infection
  2. Adverse effect to anesthesia
  3. Unfavorable outcome
  4. Visible scarring
  5. Numbness
  6. Difficulty in breathing
  7. Chronic nosebleed
  8. A perforated septum
  9. Haematoma
  10. Bursting of blood vessels
  11. Nervous damage
  12. Possibility of revision surgery

Please take rhus tox 200 - thrice daily for next 3-4 days. Also -- soak a washcloth in cool tap water wring out the excess water and then sponge areas like your armpits, feet, hands and groin to reduce the temperature. Also, you can place cold, damp washcloths on your forehead and the back of your neck. The cloth pieces should be changed regularly after a few minutes. This remedy is beneficial when dealing with a high fever as it helps keep temperature under control. You can also take a bath in lukewarm water to relax your body. Taking a shower, however, may not be a good idea. Plus, needless to say, take as much rest as possible as it helps the body fight the illness. Note: do not use very cold water as it may cause the internal body temperature to increase. Consult me for homeopathic treatment. Recommend me by clicking on recommend option and leave feedback.
