I am having back pain very frequently? Using some overcounter medicines relieving pain but incidence is more What I have to do?

Back pain can be due to a variety of causes. But in majority of the cases the back pain is functional. The root cause being weaker core muscles and inappropriate sitting and standing postures. Getting a detailed examination does help in understanding the root cause and can be beneficial in advising the appropriate treatment. You can seek a physio and start with core strengthening and back exercises, also a lumbo sacral belt will be helpful. But as mentioned it can be only one of the causes, hence you need to get examined from an orthopaedic.

Yes you should go for vit d yest, uric acid level test, because if deficiency of vit d, you will experience pain in every joint and muscle one by one. - if deficiency is there than consult physician as it will take a year to overcome vit d deficiency. - right now you can do knee and ankle exercises. - knee exercise - with your knee straight and back supported, keep towel roll beneath your knee and press it till you count 30 and tha releive .do this atleast 10 times for 2- 3 times day - do ankle pumps for ankle exercises. - precautions: - avoid stress to your joints - wear knee cap to avoid knee twisting while walking - avoid cross sitting - use of indian toilet - avoid prolonged standing.

Dear lybrate user cervical spondylosis often called arthritis of the neck it is a general term for wear and tear affecting the spinal disks in your neck. As the disks dehydrate and shrink, pain in neck & shoulder appears sometimes numbness in arms may also be felt, cervical spondylosis can be cured by homoeopathy. You should continue your physiotherapy and start homoeopathic medicine which is free from side effects your excess weight will also reduce.

Knee Replacement - Things You Must Know About It!

Knee Replacement - Things You Must Know About It!

Knee is a hinge joint where the lower leg bone tibia meets the thigh bone femur. During osteoarthritis, cartilage or ligament defects and degenerative arthritis, knee replacement surgery is recommended world-wide to get relief from extreme pain. A surgical procedure in which the affected knee joint is replaced with synthetic material. The most likely candidates for total knee replacement are the patients with severe destruction of the knee joint coupled with progressive pain and impaired function.

Modern technological advances have made computer assisted knee replacement surgery extremely popular around the globe. In this surgery, the surgeon is assisted by a computer to remove the optimum amount and angle of the bone, which otherwise is done by inspecting manually. This is an excellent example of surgery through small incision and it eliminates the chances of human error. A perfect alignment and balance is achieved and hence longevity is also increased to 20 - 30 years. Knee replacement surgery is also specific to gender as the anatomy of male and female patients is different.

In knee replacement surgery, the worn out surfaces of joints of knee are replaced with artificial implant of plastic and metal. The lower end of the femur bone is removed and replaced with a metal shell. The upper end of the lower leg bone (tibia) is also removed and replaced with a channelled plastic implant with a metal stem. A plastic ball is also added under the kneecap depending on its condition. These artificial components are commonly referred as prosthesis. The design of these highly flexible implants replicate knee, with the rotating knee replacement implants assist in backward and forward swing of the legs.

Patients whose knee joints have been damaged by either trauma or progressive arthritis should consider total knee replacement surgery. A post-surgical hospital stay after knee joint replacement is usually three to five days. The surgery has a very high success rate and shows dramatic improvement after a month.

This improvement is most notable one month or more after surgery. The pain caused by the damaged joint is reduced significantly when the new gliding surface is constructed during surgery. Initially, the patient will walk with the help of a walking aid until the knee is able to support full body weight. After six weeks, the patient can walk comfortably with minimal assistance. Patients with artificial joints are prescribed to take antibiotics during the course of any elective invasive procedures including dental work. Physiotherapy is an essential part of rehabilitation and it will increase the muscle strength and patient can enjoy most activities, except running and jumping. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an orthopedist.

For knee pain the best treatment course would be to undergo janu vasti at a panchakarma centre near u. After undergoing janu vasti, you shall be completely treated. If need the doc might prescribe you some ayurvedic medicines depending on your body type. Till then you can have drumstick soup daily. Also boil 2 pieces of garlic in 1 cup milk & 1 cup water. When 1 cup remains, strain & drink daily after adding 1 tsf cow ghee.

My MRI INDICATE 1. Lumbosacral transitional Vertebra with complete socialization of L5 2. Disc desiccation with diffuse disc bulge and broad based posterior central disc protrusion at L4-L5 level causing ventral thecal sac indentation and significant compromise of bilateral neural forminal (right>left). Mild ligamentum flavum thickening is also seen at this level with maintained spinal canal dimensions. 3. Cervical spondylitis changes with disc osteophyte complexes at C4-C5 and C5-C6 levels. Broad based left paracentral disc protrusion at C4-C5 level causing ventral thecal sac indentation and moderate compromise of left sided neural forminal. 4. Mild disc bulge at d5-d6 (screening of rest of spine revealed) I am confused. Dr. Said physio will fix it. I read too many damages. Please guide and suggest sustainable solutions. I am willing to take prolonged treatment. What does this report mean?

Radiologist, Delhi
Hello Mr. lybrate-user. The report says that there is significant compression of nerves at L4-5, C4-5 and C5-6 vertebral levels. You need to wear lumbar hot belt on regular basis, have to take medicines, you have to undergo physiotherapy and take precautions like no forward bending, no lifting weight, using ortho matress to keep spine straight. I would advise you to meet an orthopedician and discuss your symptoms in detail. Clinical examination and some further tests are required before prescribing medicines.
