Hello dear High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. Garlic,. Cod liver oil. Take anti cholesterol medicines

How to prevent heart deceases? Or heart attack? Any preventive measures are there to avoid it? Pls advice.
Hello, Healthy diet, regular physical activity, and not using tobacco products are the keys to prevention. Eat a healthy diet: A balanced diet is crucial to a healthy heart and circulation system. This should include plenty of fruit and vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish and pulses, and restricted salt, sugar and fat intake. Take regular physical activity: At least 30 minutes of regular physical activity every day helps to maintain cardiovascular fitness; at least 60 minutes on most days helps to maintain healthy weight. Avoid tobacco use: Tobacco in every form is very harmful to health - cigarettes, cigars, pipes, or chewable tobacco. Exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke is also dangerous. The risk of heart attack and stroke starts to drop immediately after a person stops using tobacco products, and can drop by as much as half after one year. Check and control your cardiovascular risk:

Prevention From Heart Attack

How A High Salt Diet Increases Blood Pressure

B.H.Sc (Food Science & Nutrition), M.H.Sc (Food Science & Nutrition)
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
How A High Salt Diet Increases Blood Pressure

How a diet high in salt increases blood pressure:

  • The amount of salt you eat has a direct effect on your blood pressure.
  • Sodium plays a key role in balancing the levels of fluid in our bodies by signaling to the kidneys when to retain water and when to get rid of water.
  • When we eat too much salt, our bloodstream has more sodium in it than the surrounding areas of our body. This causes the water in those areas to be pulled into our bloodstream.
  • Thus salt makes your body hold on to water. If you eat too much salt, the extra water stored in your body raises your blood pressure. So, the more salt you eat, the higher your blood pressure.
  • A high-sodium diet can interfere with this delicate process and reduce kidney function. The result is less water removed from the body, which may lead to higher blood pressure.
  • The higher your blood pressure, the greater the strain on your heart, arteries, kidneys. Overtime these extra strain can damage kidney an lead to kidney disease.
  • As this reduces kidney's ability to filter toxic waste products out of the body which gradually start building up in the body leading to kidney failure.
  • Also, eating too much salt may mean that blood pressure medicines (such as diuretics) don't work as well as they could.

So spice up your life with salt. But cautiously.

It might be hereditary if your parents or grandparents were hypertensive. It may also be caused by smoking/ obesity/ high intake of salt & processed foods/stress. 1. have 1 coconut water daily (without cream) 2. Replace your salt with rock salt & tata salt lite 3. Avoid table salt, processed & ready to eat, canned foods 4. Restrict egg intake to 2 times a week 5. Cut down salt in cooking, use flavour enhancers like lemon, vinegar, herbs, spices, condiments 6. Do some sort of exercise daily (brisk walk/ yoga) & be physically active 7. Have a positive attitude & reduce stress via meditation

Mam my father having stroke and he is unconscious from last 9 days. Present no improvement. He is on ventilator. As per Dr. it's take 15 days then we say anything.

Neurologist,
I'm so sorry lybrate-user, for what you are going through. It can be very difficult to see your father like that. Be patient and listen to his stroke doctors- if they are asking to wait for a couple weeks, it must be for a good reason- sometimes depending on the location of stroke and size of stroke people need longer duration of respiratory support- without looking at his brain scans and knowing more detailed medical history it is hard to tell you anything in particular.

Acidity and reflux oesophagitis is the cause. Treat these ailments appropriately. Use bed high at head end which you would avoid reflux action.

Madam if your resting BP is high that is more than 140/90mmHg, you need lifestyle changes like daily 30 minutes brisk walk and low salt intake. If still after one month of this your BP is on bigger side you are having essential hypertension for which you need medications. If you will not take medicines just because of your false belief it will cause bad effects to your eyes, brain, blood Vessel's, Heart and kidneys. I personally suggest you this. Regards.

It's difficult to do dieting, heavy exercise after a certain age and metabolism slows down but eating habits remain same specially in tv addicts. I can suggest healthy eating and healthy snacking, if you can change her habits, about check ups, I will suggest later. First things first. No diet charts, healthy eating will help you also. Give up sugar, sweets, fats, salt in moderation. Take lots of seasonal vegetables and fruits plus eating according to constitution. Take more proteins like milk and curds. All of these items have the much needed calcium, take fresh lemon. Take a spoon of honey added to it, and take with warm water every day in morning on empty stomach. Avoid things like snacks, street food, namkeem, street foods. Use minimum oils for cooking. Nothing new. Simple walk is best exercise. Encourage her to breathe fresh air near plants. Even if there's slight reduction in the weight but the body becomes more supple. Get her tested for blockages in heart by angiography or cardiac ct scan and get blood tested for sugar, thyroid profile done along with blood for lipids and ecg and may be halter test if she can tolerate. Get ultrasound abdomen. You get back here with reports. You will get more guidance from any of us here on the forum. Let her watch tv, if habitual of taking snacks in between, give her an apple.
