To beat hair loss
Most people are likely to experience hair loss in their 30s because at this time, hormonal change, stress and an unhealthy diet take their toll. Besides trying to correct factors leading to hair loss, adopting a few herbal remedies is also helpful in facilitating hair regrowth.
Onion and garlic
Onion and garlic have been used in traditional medicines for regrowth of hair.
Chop the onion into fine pieces and squeeze the juice out.Apply to the scalp and leave on for about 15 minutes; then rinse with a mild shampoo.
Crush a few cloves of garlic, add in a little coconut oil and boil for a few minutes.
When this mix cools down to feel warm to the touch, apply it on the scalp with a little massaging action.
Repeat this treatment two to three times a week for best results.
When it comes to caring for your hair, coconut provides a host of ingredients that naturally condition and promote growth of hair. The milk of the coconut contains proteins, essential fats and minerals such as potassium and iron; using it regularly can reduce the breakage of hair. Coconut oil also carries the same rich ingredients and it helps to make the hair stronger right from the root, through the shaft to the tip.
Regular use of this oil to massage the scalp has a protective action against hair loss.
Known for long as a natural hair colour and conditioner in Asian countries, henna has a major role to play in strengthening hair. When combined with mustard oil, it works even better.
Coconut oil and hibiscus are the secrets to the thick mane of hair we observe in people living in Kerala, India. Hibiscus has rejuvenating properties – it nourishes hair, prevents premature greying and also helps cure dandruff. Regular use of the flowers can help prevent hair loss too.
Crush a few flowers of hibiscus and mix with sesame oil or coconut oil to make a fine paste.
Apply this to the scalp and hair, leave on for a few hours and then rinse with cool water and a mild shampoo.

Skin is the major as well as the largest sensory organ of the body. Due to various reasons, such as harsh conditions, exposure to excess sunlight, etc., the skin often suffers from various skin issues such as oily skin and the outbreak of acne or pimples. Worrying about how you can get rid of them? Well, the alternative medicine system of homeopathy can be of great help.
What is oily skin?
When excessive oil secretion occurs from the sebaceous glands of the skin, the skin tends to become oily. Oily skin causes various unfavourable changes to the skin, pore clogging, outbreak of acne, blackheads and skin rash being some of the major issues.
What are acnes and pimples?
Acne is a particular skin condition that causes pimples and spots on the face, back, neck, shoulders, upper arms, and chest. Acne is more of an inflammatory chronic skin disease that leads to blackheads, whiteheads, nodules, cysts, and pimples, if not treated properly. More common in young adults and teenagers who have reached puberty, it sometimes may trigger the sebaceous glands to become overactive and the skin to turn oilier than before.
How can homeopathy be of help?
When it comes to finding the easiest and most effective solution for these kinds of skin issues, homeopathy plays a crucial role. Aiming at curing disorders and diseases while focusing on the causal factors, homeopathy is found to be one of the most effective and widely preferred skin treatment options. Not only are the homeopathic medicines non-toxic, natural and totally safe on the skin, but they also do not cause any adverse side effects on the skin. They can be used by people of any age and sex.
Along with taking daily care of your skin, trying homeopathic medicines as per your skin requirements can do wonders in treating oily skin and the associated skin issues. While homeopathic medicines like Silicea, Sulphur and Kali Bromatum help in dealing with acne, pimples and scars, medicines like Bovista and Psorinum work towards treating oily skin and the damages it has suffered from.
One of the biggest advantages of using homeopathy is that it offers long-term results in treating various skin conditions and diseases. It may not offer you instant solutions as it works slowly and gradually, but it cures the problem from deep inside the skin with long-term satisfied outcomes.
Before opting for any particular homeopathic medicine, it’s better to have a talk with a homeopathy specialist to obtain the most appropriate homeopathic solution as per your skin condition. After all, if a consultation with the homeopathic doctors can get you a pimple free glowing skin, then why not!

For the last six months I keep getting some sort of infection on my ring finger where my wedding bands are. It is a ring all the way around my finger that is red in color, itchy, sometimes there are clear fluid filled blisters, and then when it starts to heal it becomes dry and peels. My question is 1) What is causing this? 2) What do I need to do to keep this from coming back?

Injury, lingering infirmity deprives the body of the nutrients which are necessary for healthy skin, inflammatory diseases, several hours of heat and sun exposure or contact with sun can all cause discolored skin. If Melanin (whichever of the diverse black, dark brown, auburn, or yellow color of living things as skin color or hair color and eye color) is produced in abundance due to some physiological imbalances, it can result in that area of the body to get darker than the rest.
On the other hand, if there is a decrease in Melanin production then you could get lighter skin patches known as Vitiligo . While most pigmentation anomaly entails patches of skin, others affect the entire body. Depending on the two different conditions the terms hyper-pigmentation (excessive) and hypo-pigmentation (moderate) have been coined. Most women face problems of hyper-pigmentation during pregnancy and after child birth due to over secretion of hormones. 'Mask of pregnancy' is a new age term given to this condition in pregnant women. Most cases are reversible; some might last an entire lifetime, if medical attention is not available at the right time. Hypo-pigmentation should not be mistaken with Albinism, which is a genetic condition.
Albinism is characterized by almost no secretion of melanin. Staying out for very long hours in the sun may cause sunburns, when the skin turns brown or red according to one’s color, once this condition heals (after most of the burnt or dead skin peels off), the tanned portions may remain. Fungal contamination such as ringworm may set off stained skin patches. A compromised immune system can result in discolored skin as well. A frequent allergy that causes skin to get discolored is eczema. Birthmarks are also a kind of discolored skin.
It is wise for you to visit a dermatologist when you start noticing a sudden change in your skin color for no apparent reason, a patch that does not get relieved by OTC medicines or experience a burning or itching sensation on the skin etc. A dermatologist after evaluating your skin and putting you through a couple of basic questions would recommend ointments and oral medicines. He/she may also ask for blood tests to get done. Treatment would solely depend on the primary cause.
Treatment and prevention
- In general, most skin discoloration issues can be dealt with the help of creams containing glycolic acid, hydroquinone, lactic acid and retinoid. These are easily available in the market.
- But care must be taken to not expose yourself to the harmful UV rays of the sun. A sunscreen with the correct SPF count is a must before you venture outdoors. Remember that one should not skip the sunscreen even during the winters.
- Laser therapy and chemical peels will only be considered once topical treatment fails.
- Your diet should include plenty of vegetables and fruits; consume plenty of fluids to flush out toxins. Regular exercising promotes better blood circulation that helps prevent such issues concerning discoloration.
Supplements of Vitamins A, C and E are also prescribed in combination with Vitamin B to improve the overall skin condition. Simple home remedies including lime juice, milk, curd and honey applied on the affected spots with homemade scrubs can help remedy the issue. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.
