Sir I was cut on my neck with a major by a barber after 5 week I felt flu like symptoms and sore throat for a long time help me.

both events are unrelated ..cut has nothing to do with flu like symptoms Gargle to keep from getting a sore throat.Take only lukewarm water to drink during the day -Use saline nasal sprays or nasal irrigation. -Tablet nasorest-p once/twice daily may ease breathing. -Do steam inhalation once or twice daily. take tablet clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily if the cough is severe

Last week my son 4 and a half year old had an ear pain so took him to doc he said ear infection (given amoxicillin) told to bring him for cleaning wax then he said ear has fluid need to take it out gave a cetrizine syrup told to come after 10 days if the fluid is still there need to do microsurgery. Should I take a second opinion.

Fluid in ear very common in kids. We can wait for 12 weeks , during which baby should take proper treatment for allergy. If it doesn't resolve then surgery will be the answer.

You might be suffering from tinnitus which is the sensation of hearing ringing, buzzing, hissing, chirping, whistling, or other sounds and is often associated with hearing loss. There are multiple causes of tinnitus like ear wax, middle ear infection, hypertension, migraine, age related and many more. Consult a nearby ent specialist for proper evaluation (which will include a complete ent examination, audiogram and some radiological investigations) and management.

This is called tinnitus, get audiological profile done for this, this most of the time becomes permanent and irreversible if not taken treatment at right time, the main reason why these sounds comes is that the nerves are getting weaker day by day, avoid loud music and continuous music.

Allergic Issues of the Nose

MS - ENT , MBBS
ENT Specialist, Gurgaon
Allergic Issues of the Nose

Nasal allergies are very common and as a result, not taken seriously by most people. In most cases you patiently withstand the coughing and sneezing, which might last for an entire day and in the process might inadvertently damage your health by choosing to ignore it for the time being.

Here are some of the commonly experienced nasal allergies and what you should do to get relief from them:

  1. Runny or stuffy nose: The best option is to just avoid allergy triggers. For example, if pollen is your allergen, then avoid going out during the times pollen count when it is reported to be high. Or, if animals make you sneeze, then make sure to have your hands washed and clothes changed after playing with them. Do not over use decongestant sprays at all. If these symptoms persist for more than half a week, then it's time to seek your doctor's advice.
  2. Uncontrollable Sneezing: Again, the best option is to avoid; but in many cases, it becomes difficult for you to avoid the allergen. In those cases, try antihistamine. If that doesn't work, then you can also go for a nasal steroid spray, but again, make sure to not overuse it.
  3. Post Nasal Drip: Usually, you unconsciously swallow your mucus. But, if the mucus quantity increases, it becomes thicker and results in post-nasal drip. It isn't much common, but you can practically feel the mucus dripping into your throat from the back of the nose. It can result in a lumpy feeling in the throat and can cause irritation. You can try drinking more fluids and using a nasal spray to reduce the mucus quantity. If that doesn't work, then it's time to seek advice from your doctor.
  4. Eyes that itch: Watery eyes that itch are annoying companions of nose allergy and though they might not be a serious hazard for the eyes, you cannot ignore them. Try wearing sunglasses when you go out into a reportedly high-pollen-count weather. It might be a better option to forego contact lenses; they can escalate the entire eye-itching problem. If it becomes too itchy, you can place a cold washcloth over your eyes.

Testing an Allergy: Allergy testing is commonly done by by skin prick test, in order to diagnose the allergens. Once, the allergens are diagnosed, immunotherapy can be started, which will help in improving the symptoms of and in many cases, it provides complete cure.

My sister is 21 and she has an unusual problem with her nose. She has a runny nose since her childhood and we thought it will go with the age but it is becoming serious day by day she suffers from cold 365 days and associated with this she feels tired all the time, she sleeps lot of the times as if she has insomnia, she is not feeling hungry at all, recently she is getting some sort of pimples on her eyelid edges, the liquid coming out her nose is thick and dark in its colour, it has some unpleasant odour also. What is she suffering from?

Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Bangalore
The mucous which is coming out of her nose is thick, dark & unpleasant odour looks like a chronic sinus infection. Get a ct scan of the sinuses asap. A nasal endoscopic examination is a must which will be done by an ent surgeon. Depending on the ct scan report & the nasal endoscopic examination further action can be taken. Do not neglect this problem.
