Hi, the main reason for nipple pain is because of hormonal imbalance estrogen and progesterone and as you said you are having irregular periods this needs to be corrected first, can you write back to me in detail since how long are you suffering from PCOD and nature and duration of your periods etc. and you are telling the pain to be on 15th day means during ovulation during this time also there will be more hormonal changes which causes you the pain. Please write back to me in detail.

Oats - Why you should eat them

Oats - Why you should eat them

Oats though seemingly dull, accompanied by a bowlful of milk can form a very nutritious meal. It is packed with fiber which is very essential to regulate your digestive system. Oats are low in calories and help you maintain your waistline. Here are a few reasons why you should add oats to your regular diet-

1. Oats fill you up - Oats are packed with fiber which keeps you full for a while. A bowlful of cooked oats contains only about 150 calories and yet it manages to stave off your hunger because of its high fiber content. The absorption and digestion process slows down when you eat oats thereby restricting your appetite and calorie intake. Oats keep you full for a longer time than other calorie-rich meal and delays the hunger pangs.

2. Oats help reduce cholesterol - According to studies, people suffering from high blood cholesterol could reduce their cholesterol levels by consuming 3 grams of soluble fiber every day. Oats contain the highest amount of soluble fiber among all whole grains (4 grams per cup). The gel-like soluble fiber transits the intestinal tract and aids in trapping substances which contribute to the rise in blood cholesterol level.

3. Oats are diabetes-friendly - Oatmeal is a perfect substitute for meals high in sugar and saturated fat. It helps to control the level of glucose in your bloodstream and also delivers your daily need of fiber. People suffering from uncontrolled diabetes can abundantly benefit from consuming oats although it is essential to keep in mind that you should not add sugary toppings or any other synthetic ingredients to your oats so that it retains all the nutrients which are already present in it.

There are many ways in which you can make your oats interesting. You can go beyond your breakfast cereal and bake cookies made of oats. You can also sprinkle them on your pancakes and bread or add them to your smoothie to increase your fiber intake. You can also add fruits like bananas or berries to your bowl of oats and make it tastier according to your liking.

My friend is pregnant now in 6th month. When she gone for scanning in the report the remark is "Echogenic intracardiac focus noted across the right ventricle. We got different opinion from different doctors but we didn't able to understand what is the exact problem. Doctor said nothing serious to worry but we are very curious about this issue. Please let us know your suggestions on this.

DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)
Gynaecologist, Bangalore
Echogenic intracardiac focus (EIF) is a small bright spot seen in the baby?s heart on an ultrasound exam. This is thought to represent mineralization, or small deposits of calcium, in the muscle of the heart. EIFs are found in about 3-5% of normal pregnancies and cause no health problems. EIFs themselves have no impact on health or heart function. Often the EIF is gone by the third trimester. If there are no problems or chromosome abnormalities, EIFs are considered normal changes, or variants.

Hello lybrate-user. Low dose aspirin is useful in those with history of pregnancy loss at or more than 13 weeks. HCG that is human chorionic gonadotropin gives support to corpus luteum, which produces progesterone. Hormone progesterone is very much essential for the continuation of pregnancy. Low molecular weight heparin helps to improve live birth rate in high risk pregnancies like that of antiphospholipid antibody syndrome and recurrent pregnancy loss. Folic acid is useful to prevent neural tube defects in foetus. Your treating doctor is providing you good treatment so don't worry at all and enjoy each and every movement of your pregnancy. All the best! Take care!

Let Your Liver Live: 6 Habits Harming Your Liver

PGDCC (Cardiology ), CCEBDM (Diabetes), CCGDM (Gestational Diabetes), CCMTD (Thyroid), MBBS
Cardiologist, Udaipur
Let Your Liver Live: 6 Habits Harming Your Liver

The liver is a vital organ which means a person cannot survive without it. The liver works with other organs in the digestive tract to digest, absorb, and process food. The main function of the liver is to filter the blood that it receives from the digestive tract before passing it to the rest of the body. The liver detoxifies and metabolizes the medicines that you take. It also secretes bile and important blood clotting proteins.

Being such an important organ, it becomes imperative for you to stay away from habits that can damage it.

Here are some common habits that are damaging your liver:

1. Too much sugar

Having excess amounts of sugar is not harmful to just the teeth but the liver as well. Liver converts fructose ( a type of sugar) into fat. If you consume foods with refined sugar, it can build up as fat in the liver leading to liver diseases. Experts suggest that consuming too much sugar can be as harmful to the liver as having excessive alcohol. Avoid foods that contain refined sugars and corn syrup that has high fructose content. Limit foods with added sugars, such as soda, pastries, and candy.

2. Self-medication

The painkillers that you pop frequently for a sore back, that annoying headache or a toothache can damage your liver in the long run. It is okay to take over the counter pain medications like paracetamol once in a while but make sure that you do not resort to taking them on a regular basis. Always consult your doctor for chronic painful conditions and advice on pain medications.

3. Excessive alcohol

Consuming alcohol in large quantity can cause irreversible damage to the liver. When alcohol is consumed in excessive amounts it interferes with the ability of the liver to get rid of toxins from the body. Studies suggest that having three glasses of alcohol every day is a direct risk for liver cancer.

4. Too many supplements

Taking supplements instead of obtaining those nutrients from your food is a habit that can damage your liver. Unless recommend by your doctor, avoid taking supplements indiscriminately. Eat a well-balanced diet rich in green leafy vegetables, fruits, dairy products, and protein. Always consult a doctor before you start taking a supplement even if it is an herbal supplement. Remember that all medicines are processed by the liver.

5. Sleep deprivation

You may not know but not getting a regular sleep can damage your liver. Studies show that when people are sleep-deprived their livers cannot process the fat efficiently leading to fat accumulation which eventually leads to liver damage. Getting a good sleep also acts as a repair process for the whole body including liver. Make sure you get a good 7- 8 hours of sleep regularly.

6. Soft drinks

Studies have shown that people who drink too much soft drinks have higher chances of developing the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Since these drinks are packed with sugar, so it is best to avoid them for improving your overall health.

So, go ahead and change these habits that are harming your liver and embrace a healthy and active lifestyle for a healthier you. Stay healthy, stay happy!

Hi I am suffering with lot of acne on my face, and this month my period also delayed. But I have no irregular perio...
Hi, Get your Hormonal assay done as that could be one of the reason for irregular menses and acne on face. For acne: Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i. E. Cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Prevention: -Take healthy food only and avoid unhealthy ones (although sebaceous glands are not excretory glands then as well!) as what you eat is reflected on your face! -Avoid taking unnecessary stress/ tension as it encourages secretion of stress hormone in the body as thus affects skin or any other tissue of the body. -Drink atleast 8-10 glasses of water in a day. -Take 6-8 hrs. Of sound sleep everyday. -Don't use others towels, handkerchief on your face as well as never share yours. -Never ever rub your face as it damages the skin (even towel should be dab on skin softly) and break outs of acne get worsened! -Maintain hygiene, wash your face 2-3 times in a day, changes the pillow covers, bed sheet daily, use cotton bed sheet only (try to sleep on your back). Home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Medication: You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day (and for local application as well) and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 30 days.

I am suffering from endometriosis cyst size 4cm on both ovary. Had laproscopy on 2013 but it again reoccur. I had my periods on 16 april 2015, on 26 and 27 april I had intercourse with my husband. On the next day there is brown discharge I saw on pantyline as well as on wiping with tissue but no bleeding. On 29 april I had backache and lower abdomen cramps. I m also weeing little frequently compare to other days. Can it possible that I have conceived.

MBBS, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Most likely it is not pregnancy. You said you had your periods on 16th april. You also mentioned that endometriosis has recurred. Have you undergone ultrasound? your back ache and lower abdominal pain may be suggestive of endometriosis. Yes, it can recurr if you have not taken hormone like gnrh analogue following your surgery. Consult gynaecologist to exclude the probability. Do not ignore it as it may cause problem for conception.

My periods are coming once in two months. please advise me something so that it should come in regular interval of time?
If your menses are irregular then 1st do the usg (abdomen-pelvis) to rule out pcod or any physiacal abnormality. To normalise the menses first you have to go through the basti or appropriate shodhan therapy as per your prikriti, for that visit your nearest ayurvedic doctor. Until then take tab. Chandraprabha vati 2 tabs tqice a day before food. Liq. Dashmoolarishta 3 tsf with same amount of water, before food. Medicines should be taken 15 minutes before food.
