Gallbladder Health - Foods that Can Help maintain it!

The gall bladder is a very small organ located behind the liver. This organ stores the bile created by the liver and releases it whenever needed. We rarely pay attention to this organ until there is a problem and most gallbladder related problems are very painful. Unknowingly you may be harming your gall bladder by eating certain types of food like red meats and saturated fats. On the other hand, eating some types of food can improve your gall bladder health. Some such foods are:

  1. Fiber-rich foods: Fruits and vegetables are rich sources of fiber and a must in a balanced diet. Fiber helps keep the gall bladder healthy and also helps prevent gallstones from developing. An easy way to add more fibre to your diet is to incorporate a salad with your lunch and dinner.
  2. Water: Water not only helps hydrate the body but also helps maintain the water levels required in bile. Ideally, a person should drink 8 glasses of water a day. This should not all be drunk at one time but should be spaced out through the day. Drinking too much water at one time will result in the body expelling it in the form of urine instead of absorbing it.
  3. Foods rich in Pectin: Pectin is a dietary fiber that binds cholesterol in the stomach and helps in its removal from the body. Since cholesterol is one of the major causes for gall stones, eating pectin-rich foods helps reduce the risk of gallstones. Some foods that are rich in pectin include citrus fruits, strawberries and apples.
  4. Flaxseeds: Eating just one tablespoon of flax seeds a day can boost your health in a number of ways. One of the many benefits of including flaxseeds in your diet is a healthy gall bladder. Flax seeds contain mucilaginous fiber or fiber that forms a gel. This type of fiber aids in the liver’s synthesis of bile acids and thus keeps the gall bladder healthy.
  5. Omega 3 Fatty Acids: Not all fats are bad for the body. Omega three fatty acids play an important role in producing anti-inflammatory compounds. Some rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids include olive oil, avocados and flax seeds.
  6. Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits are very rich in vitamins like vitamin C. a deficiency of this particular vitamin can cause gall stones. For this reason, eat plenty of citrus fruits and other fruits and vegetables such as bell peppers and broccoli that are rich in vitamin C. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a general physician.

Acid Reflux in lay man language is known as Throat acidity. Acid reflux, also known as heartburn, is the hallmark symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD is a condition in which the muscle at the end of the esophagus is too loose or doesn’t close properly, allowing acid (and food particles) from the stomach to rise back up into the esophagus.

Hello since you have written colitis, I assume you have been diagnosed. However with this condition its important to get a specific diet plan to help the lining of your intestines heal. Elimination of certain food groups to reduce inflammation along with homoeopathic constitutional remedies works well. An advice on stress management will be an important part of managing colitis.

My friend is used to drunk regularly. Now he got some issues with his pancreas. How the pancreas got infected from alcohol?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS

the molecules in alcohol interfere with the cells of the pancreas, stopping them working properly. Whatever the cause, there is a clear link between drinking alcohol and acute pancreatitis – and the more alcohol you drink, the higher your risk of developing the condition

How my liver and spleen is enlarged. I don't have the habit of smoke and drinking. My doubt is that. If we are not maintaining proper diet. Will lead to liver enlarge. Another thing. I am having the habit of masturbation, my doubt is. Even masturbating will cause this side effects. Please clear my doubts doctor. Regards

Dear lybrate-user, Do not worry and panic about it. As per the doctor advise, you can just take the USG abdomen which help us to confirm the problem. The smoking and drinking alone is not the cause for hepatomegaly or spleenomegaly. Various causes are there including alchol, smoking, infection, etc. So do not tense. Masturbation will not cause trouble. So do not panic about it 1. Avoid any kind of oily food 2. Take more liquid diet 3. Drink more tender coconut 4. Drink more butter milk 5, avoid non- veg 6. Take only rice porridge without much salt. Follow the strict diet until you get normal. For more details contact us in private section, wish you a very speedy recovery. Thank you
