How Can Osteoarthritis Patients Benefit From Physiotherapy?

It cannot really be a nice situation to be in when a person happens to have osteoarthritis. So, while a lot of the effort to improve the situation is focused on making use of painkilling medicines, can physiotherapy help in such cases?

Well, the answer is a resounding yes! When osteoarthritis patients practice some physiotherapy on a regular basis, what they will find is that a fair amount of the freedom they had before the condition affected them would have returned. Is this not some great news?

When it comes to active physiotherapy in order to improve a situation of osteoarthritis, it is generally divided to fall into categories. These categories are namely exercises in strengthening and exercises in flexibility. While the former group aims to make the joints stronger, the latter makes an effort to restore the normal functioning as a result of increasing the range of motion.

Truth be told, it can be said that both are of very high importance in order to cause an improvement. In addition to this, following the directions of the physiotherapist is vital, as an expert knows what hero she is talking about!

While a lot has been told about active physiotherapy, in order to fight osteoarthritis, what can be said of passive physiotherapy for the condition? There are three general categories of treatment under passive physiotherapy. They are heat therapy, cold therapy and hydrotherapy. The aim is to use the different sensations the three have so as to cause an improvement in the circulation of blood in the area or to reduce the extent of the pain and symptoms which are part and parcel of having osteoarthritis.

Cold therapy usually takes place by the way of a cold compress which is applied to the knee. What the aim is, in this case, is that the amount of swelling in the region will reduce and so, the pain that is being felt will also recede, to some extent.

On the other hand, in the case of heat therapy, improved blood flow helps decrease the amount of stiffness. Mobility is obviously an issue when it comes to having osteoarthritis and the best way to get mobile again is to do so in water where the impact is very minimal, as compared to other surfaces. This is why hydrotherapy exists and is so successful.

A lot of osteoarthritis exercises can be done at home after the proper technique is learnt and with such benefits, everyone would wish to learn!

Hello Lybrate user. As you mentioned you hav developed neck pain bcoz of prolong sitting .u know the reason behind that also .it is sitting for prolong duration apply pressure to neck muscle specially in forward head posture. Condition you have developed called cervical myalgia. Correction of neck posture is key to success. Sit straight .keep head in eye level .make your work station ergonomically fit .keep your desktop in to eye level. Take breaks every 20 minutes initially .do stretches off load the pressure for those neck muscle. Do apply hot fermentation to painful area. Consult me online for more details. Thanks.

Namaste, Although more information is needed to diagnose and treat appropriately, but it seems your mother could be having migraines, which are the most common type Of headache. If they are happening more than 10 times a month, try using daily magnesium 250 mg to prevent them. Whether her bad breath could be related to these cannot be said based on the information shared.

Namaste- she likely gets migraines- which are the most common type of headaches, and can be triggered by several environmental, behavioral and dietary factors. It can be dull ache or severe throbbing ache. There even maybe nausea vomiting. Do not worry, several options are available to help- although they would depend on individual patient factors.

Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold). Avoid Squatting- Avoid sitting Cross legged Contrast bath---It is a form of treatment knee is applied warm water followed by the immediate application of the knee with ice water. This procedure is repeated several times, alternating hot and cold. Note that the treatment should always end in the ice water, as heat will induce the body's inflammatory response, while cold helps to decrease inflammation.

Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day.

My son is 18 years. From 6 months he is not eating properly.. He is in hostel and doing BE. Immediately after eating he finds stomach pain. Totally he is surviving with juice and fruits. With these he don't have a problem. Shown to top doctors, done all the tests including endoscopy n doctor says there is no problem.. He feels hungry but could not eat.. If all the test are fine, it would be cause of Navel Displacement. Practice, below mentioned process for 3 days, empty stomach, early in the morning. Do Naval massage with warm coconut oil. Do circular motions with firm hand, giving a littile pressure over navel. DO this for 15 minutes .After that do Paschimottanasana epmty in morning (5 reps. After that, lie straight and left your body loose. Ask someone to hold your feet in air at 45 degree angle and one by one pull all the toes with little jerk. Lie down straight for 10 minutes and after that, consume something hot, like milk with tea leaves, Besan halwa with liquid consistency. Eat light and warm food for 3 days. Like- daliya, khichri, halwa, soups.

do regular exercise, daily massage your body with Tila ( sesame) oil, take proper diet,milk,cows ghee in regularly,fresh fruits,dry fruits,green vegetables,protein rich food, proper sleep. avoid late night work,overexertion, excessive tea,coffee,cold drinks,chilled water,foods kept in fridge,fast food,bakery foods.

Dear user. I can understand. You are HEALTH ANXIOUS, it seems. Hypochondriasis is an Obsession with the idea of having a serious but undiagnosed medical condition. lybrate-user. Being a sport person you need to remain fit. Along with d moves also work on proper muscle length and strength. Take a balanced diet to meet your requirements that will help you to recover faster from wear n tears. Apply ice packs for little finger pain 2-3 times a day. And last but not d least do not forget to visit to a physiotherapist for adequate recovery and proper guidance so dt you can avoid further injury and excel in your field. Thanks.
