Can Yoga Asanas Help Manage Osteoporosis?

Along with curing anger and stress, yoga is also beneficial in treating osteoporosis, either by itself or in combination with different medicines. Osteoporosis is an illness described by weak and diminishing bones that can result in cracks and fractures in the bones. Some of the postures that can be helpful in treating osteoporosis are as follows:

  1. Utthita trikonasana: Uttihita trikonasana is an expanded triangle posture which is helpful in curing many diseases. Along with diminishing the side effects of osteoporosis, it additionally avoids soreness, increases strength and gets rid of spinal pain. Begin this posture by standing straight with your legs separated by four feet. Then, extend the arms to the ground with the palm facing downwards. Slide the left leg across the right side of your body. You need to slide it behind the left leg. Now extend your right leg towards the left side of your body. This will leave you in a sitting position. Where your right leg is placed on top of your left leg, make sure both your knees are on top of each other. Now straighten your body to an upright position.
  2. Ardha chandrasana: This asana is also called as the half-moon posture. This posture comes under hatha yoga and is beneficial for various medical issues, for example, osteoporosis, menstrual issues, exhaustion, sciatica and stomach-related cramps. You can practice this pose to get rid of osteoporosis and appreciate a sound body.
  3. Padangusthasana: This stance delicately stretches and strengthens persistently tight hamstrings.
  4. Adho mukha svanasana: It is one of yoga's most commonly practiced postures. Adho mukha svanasana offers a definitive wholesome, reviving stretch.
  5. Utthita hasta padangustasana: In this pose, keeping up the balance while standing on one foot strengthens your endurance capabilities.
  6. Utthita parsvakonasana: Discover the flexibility in your sides of the body from your heel to your fingertips with an extended side angle pose.
  7. Utthita trikonasana: It is a broadened triangle posture and is important as a standing posture in many styles of yoga.
  8. Ardha chandrasana: Make proper balance with your leg and the lower part of your leg as you look for strength and flexibility into this adjusting posture.
  9. Parivrtta parsvakonasana: This revolved side angle pose, a variation of utthita parsvakonasana requires a considerable measure of adaptability to bend flexibly and balance on the back heel.
  10. Uttanasana: Uttanasana will awaken your hamstrings and will help you to calm your brain.
  11. Urdhva dhanurasana: Urdhva dhanurasana can help in strengthening your arms, legs, abdomen and spine all at once.
  12. Virabhadrasana: Named after a wild warrior, an incarnation of Shiva, this adaptation of a warrior pose increases the stamina.

8 Tips To Manage Knee Pain!

Knee pain is a common phenomenon that plagues most of the people irrespective of their age. It can be the outcome of a torn cartilage or a ruptured ligament. Medical complications, such as infections, gout or osteoarthritis (painful inflammation and stiffness of the joints) can also give way to knee pain. Minor knee pain can be eased by self-care remedies such as physical therapy or by putting on knee braces.

Tips to manage knee pain- 

1. Medications such as naproxen, ibuprofen and acetaminophen can be administered to help  knee pain. 

2. You can seek relief by massaging your knees with ointments constituting of a number of agents such as capsaicin or lidocaine

3. Keep away from your usual chores to prevent repetitive strains on the knees, thus, allowing the injury to heal as well as to stay safe from further damage. 

4. Compression bandages can inhibit fluid accumulation in the damaged tissues aiding knee alignment stability. Ensure that it is tight enough to render support to your knees without actually obstructing blood circulation. 

5. To pacify the swelling, try resting your sore leg on a pillow (the idea here is to keep the affected leg elevated to reduce further pain). 

6. Shed off your extra pounds as being overweight increases chances of other disorders such as osteoarthritis.

7. Go for regular work out to enhance and maintain the flexibility of your muscles as excessively weak or abnormally tight muscles can contribute to injuries. Be smart while choosing your method of exercise based on the condition you are suffering from.

8. If at all conservative management fails, you can consult pain physician for non- surgical management of your knee pain.  knee pain can be managed at pain clinic by different procedures such as PRP (Platelet rich plasma therapy), ozone therapy, prolotherapy , genicular nerve blocks as per grade of disease.

Why do you want to take ginger tea. In north India we take ginger tea in winters. But The rule is that there is no rule. If something suits u, go ahead take it. But if something don't suit you leave it. U can try it by taking once daily, if it suits you go ahead. U can increase frequency. Its not like if something suits others then that is going to suit you also and vice versa. So try it out to find out.

Hello, my mom is 42 years old, she had several operation, in which her uterus, ovary, and gall bladder was removed, she also had operation for thyroid. She always feel tired and weak, but as we live in joint family she have to work with improper diet, we are not financially strong too, (and some people torture her mentally, bcoz of which she lives depressed and frustrate life) now she always says to me" I am going to die now, I do not have, stamina and energy left inside me" I am not able to hear those words from her mouth, it breaks me down. I do not know what should I give her to eat in affordable price for her healthy life. I do not want to lose her, she is very weak, on little work she got exhausted, and got fever, can not she her like that. I want my mom to be healthy and live longer. Do not know what to do can't see her breaking down physical and mentally, she looks weaker than 68 year old lady. please all of you have a great knowledge in different fields please help me, with suggestions, diet plan, and tablet name for better health.

As her ovaries n uterus are removed, she needs calcium supplements. Tablet need not be costly. JUst read ingredient. It should contain calcium citrate or calcium lactate (What ever the brand name it does not matter). Give her 1000 mg tablet everyday. This is one thing. U should also do the following Meanwhile follow this 1. Don't take tea empty stomach. Eat something like a banana (if you are not diabetic). No only biscuits or rusk will not do. 2. Take your breakfast every day. Don't skip it. 3. Have light meals every 2 hours (in addition to your breakfast, lunch n dinner) e.g. Nariyal paani, chaach, a handful of dry fruits, a handful of peanuts, Lai chana, gur chana, any seasonal fruit (don't go for fancy costly or imported ones), a cup of curd/milk, It can be a katori of subzi etc, whatever is easily available 4. Finish your dinner at least 2 hours before going to sleep. 6. Avoid fast foods, spicy n fried foods 7.Take a lot of green vegetables n fruit. 8. Drink lot of water All these help to provide a constant supply of calories which will help to reduce weakness, tiredness etc. Is her thyroid under control now. Try to make her happy. Spend time with her. Go for a walk with her. She can do meditation, pranayam to calm her mind. Help her in her household duties. All the best.

Dr. I was in the gym and I was doing exercise with heavy weights and while putting dumbel on the floor I was pain in my right knee. Now when I work it feels painful otherwise it works normal without any pain so what could I do so my knees are not pain while I am exercises?

You might have got some ligaments tear in your knee while gyming I advice to take rest for a couple of week and so from gyming Take some pain medications If still pain persists Needs to have an orthopedic appointment Take care.

Start your day with exercise and brisk walk morning and evening which increase your metabolism. Don't skip your breakfast which increase your appetite. Take high calorie & rich protein In your diet. Feeling full & heavy is normal for some people after eating the amount of eggs you are eating currently but intense workout is important to let the protein absorb in your body. Make sure you have a proper guidance at your Gym (personal trainer) to ensure about your protein intake naturally along with maintenance of other nutrients in your diet on daily basis.
