There are many options to lighten skin tone including lasers, bleaching creams, and chemical peels. You should have a consultation with a board certified dermatologist to discuss which option is best for you. You have to consider though that no matter which treatment you decide to do that it will not produce a permanent result and that sun avoidance as well as the use of sunscreen (SPF 30 with zinc oxide) is required.

Skin Tightening Treatment: What You Need To Know?

Laser skin tightening is a procedure that uses laser to enhance the appearance of the skin and treat minor facial flaws. This procedure is performed with the help of two types of lasers: ablative and non-ablative. Ablative laser is used to remove thin layers of skin, while a non-ablative laser is the one which causes growth of collagen and tightens the skin underneath.

Non-ablative laser is less invasive and requires less time to recover, although it's less effective than laser resurfacing, which is done with an ablative laser.

A laser tightening skin procedure can decrease fines lines on the face, making you look younger and giving a smooth appearance to your skin. It can also be used to treat uneven skin tone and improve your complexion, besides helping the treatment of sunburns and scars to a certain extent.

This procedure is usually used to treat:

  1. Wrinkles
  2. Liver or age spots
  3. Skin damage caused by sun rays
  4. Scars caused due to accidents, chicken pox or severe acne
  5. Irregular or uneven skin tone or texture

Before performing the procedure a doctor is likely to check your:

  1. Medical history - Doctors cross check your current and previous medical history, including medications and medical conditions.
  2. Physical examination - A skin test is very common prior to performing such a surgery.

After the procedure is carried out, you may encounter initial minor problems like acne, itching, swelling or redness.

You may be advised to take medications and avoid direct exposure to sunlight. During the procedure, a highly intense beam of light is directed on the skin. This laser beam destroys the upper layer of skin and also heats the underlying layers of epithelial cells. Resultantly, it causes the collagen fibers to shrink, thereby tightening your skin and giving you a younger appearance. Post the procedure, ice packs can be used to cool down the skin.

You can try these home remedies to fade away your skin tan naturally: 1)Lemon juice has bleaching effect which helps in removing tan quickly- Take fresh lemon juice, add some honey to it and apply on your skin. Let it stay for 30 minutes and wash off. You can also add some sugar to the lemon juice and scrub your skin gently to slough off dead cells from the surface. 2) Yogurt and tomato-Tomato is rich in antioxidants that helps in brightening skin. Yogurt on the other hand contains lactic acid which softens the skin. Take raw tomato and remove the skin, Blend it with 1-2 tsp of fresh yogurt. Use this paste on your tan, and wash off after 20 minutes. Hydrate yourself well, always use a good SPF sunscreen to protect skin from tanning, use full sun protection means apply sunscreen at 9 am-12 pm-3 pm. Always use umbrella to protect your skin. This will surely helps to reduce your tan.

There are many face wash containing glycolic acid for oily skin. You should use a good sunscreen, take lots of leafy green vegetable and fruits to get glow. Besides there are oral medicines and topical creams for this.

Treatment options depend on how motivated you are and how much sun protection you can practice. You may use Sebamed SPF 50 Multiprotect lotion and Melagard SPF 50+ lotion.Sunscreen should be applied at least three times a day (8 am, 12 pm and 4 pm), irrespective of whether they go out or not.You should also start a night cream or lotion on the tanned areas - Decroma 6% or 12% is a good product. All of these measures are supportive - the real benefit to tanning comes from chemical peeling, particularly a peel known as a yellow peel (offered by dermatologists). 6-8 peels at 2 weekly intervals can improve the tan considerably. Microdermabrasion can be added to the regimen to further enhance benefit.

The onset of monsoon season brings in a sense of joy and peace to our mind – the cool raindrops, soothing winds, coy weather and our taste buds yearn for some hot tea with savoury snacks. Phew! It is finally a relief from the scorching summer heat. The change in weather also means it's time to change your skincare routine. This monsoon, pamper your skin with these tips and keep your skin feeling loved and fresh.

  1. Cleanse and remove the dirt: Monsoon brings in a lot of dust, which can settle on your skin and damage it, giving it a dull texture. So, it is important to cleanse your skin at least 3 times a day to remove the accumulated grime and oil that can clog your pores.
  2. Don’t forget to tone: Use an alcohol-free toner to prevent dryness. An anti-bacterial toner is recommended to prevent breakout or infections in your skin during the monsoon.
  3. Moisturise for a radiant glow: Monsoon tends to have an extra dehydrating effect on dry skin or an over-moisturising effect on oily skin. Use a light lotion-based moisturizer for gentle hydration on your skin and leave your skin feeling soft and supple with a healthy look. For oily skin, use water-based moisturizer to keep the oil secretion in check.
  4. Continue using sunscreen: The rains do not mean it’s time to stop using your sunscreen. The sun is still there and its UV rays can wreak havoc on your skin. Use a sunscreen even on a cloudy day.
  5. Avoid heavy makeup: Use water-proof makeup to prevent messy makeup in case of a sudden downpour. Also during monsoon, your skin is prone to catch dirt and infections. So, keep your makeup minimal and natural.
  6. Stay hydrated and watch your diet: Drink at least eight glasses of water in a day so that humidity does not make your skin look pale and dull. Also, watch what you are eating; it's good to keep away from oily snacks and eat wholesome meals.
  7. Use natural face packs: Facials and bleaching will make the skin rougher during the rainy season and so, it should be limited. Instead go for home-made natural face packs, based on your skin type and nourish your skin naturally.
  8. Take essential lip care: Prevent the lips from drying out and cracking. Avoid dark coloured lipsticks and use a good lip balm or apply milk cream regularly to prevent excessive drying.

Almost every person salivates over desserts and sweets. One does not need a special occasion to get their sweet tooth going. While the lip smacking sugary delight might impress the taste buds, it is sure to affect the health in a big way. If you thought that sugar was only bad for your waistline and general health, then you need to know that it is equally harmful for your skin. In fact, it can lead to serious dermatological conditions.

Harmful effects of sugar on the skin

A lot of what we eat reflects on our body externally. A number of internal changes can influence the external appearance of the body. Excessive intake of carbohydrates, starch and sugar can have an adverse effect on the skin. It can also accelerate the ageing process. But what triggers these complications needs to be understood and discussed in detail.

Carbohydrates can be simple or complex. Simple carbohydrates (cake, bread; to name a few) break down and convert to glucose rapidly. Increased glucose level implies increased insulin level, and causes inflammation, which affects the whole body. The enzymes produced during inflammation breaks down important proteins, namely elastin and collagen, leading to wrinkles and saggy skin.

Acne problems mainly arise from Glycation (the process through which digested sugar attaches permanently to the collagen). Glycation plays a significant role in accelerating the ageing process.

Complex carbohydrates, on the other hand, is good for health. When ingested, complex carbohydrates break down at a much slower rate. As a result, there is no abnormal increase in the insulin level.

Corrective measures to check the harmful effects of sugar on the skin:

With a little care and preventive measures, the deleterious effects of sugar on the skin can be minimised.

  1. Supplement your diet with foods rich in antioxidants. Lean proteins, fibrous foods and diets rich in good fats are highly recommended. Include beans and nuts that have low glycemic value in your diet. Drink plenty of water.
  2. Food items containing high amount of saturated fats (cheese, ice creams, fried foods; to name a few), and with high glycemic value should be strictly avoided.
  3. Do not compromise with your sleep. A sound sleep and a stress-free life is the mantra to a glowing and youthful skin.
  4. Practice meditation and yoga diligently. The rewarding and positive outcomes will leave you in awe.
  5. Do not skip your meals or indulge in overeating. Have small servings at regular intervals.

Hi lybrate-user, A fair, healthy and glowing skin is every body’s desire. Well it is not hard to achieve. A little patience and simple care with some natural and inexpensive products can do wonder for your skin. Pollution, stress and unhygienic condition can steal away your glowing complexion leaving behind dark patches, blemishes and wrinkles on your skin making it look tired and aged. Skin color is due to the presence of a pigment known as melanin. This causes a person’s complexion to be white or dark depending on its amount present in the skin. Try the following ways to get fair skin and remove dark patches from your face. 1. Lemon Juice & Honey - Mix honey and lemon juice and apply on face and other exposed parts of your body. Let it stay for twenty minutes and then wash off. For dry skin apply honey and cucumber juice of equal amount on your face and body and leave for fifteen minutes. Wash off and feel the radiance. Apply lemon juice on face every night. Remove make up before the application. Try to keep a small quantity at least for fifteen minutes on face. It may give you a burning sensation but will help in lightening your complexion. 2. Yoghurt - Apply yoghurt on your face and wash off with milk. They both act as lightening agents for skin. 3. Papaya - Papaya is an effective ingredient for achieving glowing skin. Papaya is a rich source of antioxidants that helps to remove dark patches from skin. Rub a slice of ripe papaya on your face every morning. Papaya is often used in most of the home remedies for glowing skin. Tips for Fair Skin: / Eat foods rich in antioxidants. These foods help to slow down ageing and make you look younger for a long time. / Maintain proper hygiene. Do not use harsh chemicals on your face. After washing do not rub your face vigorously, instead pat dry. Remove make up before going to bed. Limit your usage of makeup.
