Based on the details mentioned it looks like her blood glucose level is not in good control. It is better if her HbA1c% is checked, which gives an idea about long term control. Usually in patients with long standing diabetes in later years, treatment with Insulin becomes a necessity. Because oral drugs do not give necessary response. Almost all medications being used in treating diabetes are fairly safe. There is no reason to worry about any side effects. However, in your query there is no mention of actual blood glucose levels like Fasting, PP or Random plus HbA1c%, hence without knowing those details there is no way to give any opinion or suggestions. Yes metformin and voglibose be taken at a same time. Both are the diabetic medications,and Voglibose prevents absorption of sugar from foods whereas the metformin controls insulin effects
