Both drugs have their own merits and demerits, though they are given for the same purposes. In some individuals desvenlafaxine works better than mirtazapine and vice versa. It is the Doctor Who observes and chooses the better one for the individual need.

Hello lybrate-user,
Both the salts have their pros and cons and it all depends on the patient's overall symptomatology when it comes of choosing one. None of them is outrightly superior over the other.
Please be warned that you must not take tale any of these without consulting a psychiatrist. Sometimes a wrong choice of drug or a wrong dose can lead to serious health problems and worsening of anxiety.

Schizophrenia and depression-
You have to be on drugs as long as your psychiatrist advise for it.
You should stick to your psychiatrists rescription, dosage and schedule.
Antipsychotics are very specific drugs. You should continue or stop them only on doctors advice.

Medication regime which you are talking about is more likely indicative of treatment of psychotic depression having some mixed features. So in this medication needs to be continued long term. May be few years. All a psychiatrist can say is if you stop medication abruptly then subsequent episode is going to be more rapid and severe.

Respected Sir,
Even though I practice allopathy, I am aware that there are medicines in ayurveda also for depression. However I chose to reply to your query as I wanted to know the reason why you wanted to stop Ventab. If it is due to side effects, there are numerous allopathic alternatives available with fewer side effects and better efficacy than ayurvedic medicines. On the other hand, if it is due to an inadequate response, you are taking a pretty low dose of Ventab which can be hiked up ...more
