All patients should be assessed for
(1) smoking status, (2) motivation to quit, and
(3) motivators for and barriers to quitting. Smoking status includes current smoker, ex-smoker, or never-smoker; type of tobacco used; and frequency of use. In terms of motivation to quit, smokers can be classified as immotives (no plans to quit), precontemplators (plan to quit but not in the next 6 months), contemplators (plan to quit in the next 6 months), and preparers (plan to quit in the next month)....more

Dear Govind,
Congratulations for planning to clear your lungs. The only way is quitting smoking. Since you are smoking only 1 year, comparatively it is easier to quit now than later. Nicotine stays in your lungs only for few hours. That is why you feel the need to smoke again. You also get withdrawal symptoms if you quit. But the tar which is deposited in the lungs can not be removed at all. Plan not to add more of tar by quitting smoking.
If withdrawal is a problem, please take the help...more

you are suffering for a long time. Each antidepressant should be tried for maximum dose for a period of 6 weeks at least before saying it is useless. Few antidepressant give partial relief like in your case. You need to add some supplements to increase its effectiveness. Some antidepressants cause your sodium levels to go down, causing more tiredness. Stick to one psychiatrist, make a list of the tablets, their dose, the duration of intake handy. Praxotine is a ssri, it will not make sense to add another ssri. Have you tried snri such as venlafaxine. Switching to snri is potential option. Depending on other symptoms such as level of anxiety, adding bupropion is a good option (unless you have anxiety). Trial of small dose of tricyclic or mood stabilizer are also options.

Dear lybrate-user,
smoking causes health and sex related bad issues.
Stopping smoking is a good decision to take. If you continue to motivate yourself not to smoke you will be able to maintain it for a long time. If you succeed to keep off from cigarettes for 1 year, your chances of restarting is much less. Try and connect the quit day to significant day of your life like birthday. Make goals for only one week at a time and find out the situations or persons who will help you or interfer...more
