Sir ,i am taking zenoxa (oxcarbazepine) for 6 years clobazam for 2 years and I am not recovered from the brain seizure. Dr. Upendra devkota said that there is no need of surgery but still I am suffering and it seems that I am in another world when I rest in bed .for more than 5 times seizure s have occurred during trying to sleep .the main symptom is that I have lost my consciousness and I have confusions during taking decisions. I also want to do frcs in neurosurgery in future .i am a 16 year old boy from nepal. Please response me as fast as possible.

Most of the seizures cannot be treated with surgery and in your case, there is no role for surgery and medicine is good enough

No problem and symptoms during last 5 year, two days before, she starts numbness and pain during rest and sleep time. Can start previous medicines for one month, or change.

I had depression in 1993 and was on lithium and other mood stabilizers but in 1999 I had mania. Since 2009 I am taking oxcarbazepine 300 mg 1 mg ativan and 1 mg clonazepam at night. I had no episode since 1999 .but I am facing memory problems and lack of energy. I am unable to reduce my 1 mg ativan and 1 mg clonazepam. One doctor prescribed to take etizolam instead of ativan. Doctor kindly guide me properly. Thanks.

Dear Parveen,
It is nice to know that you don't have any further episode with regular oxcarbazepine. As age advances, clonazepam and lorazepam (ativan) interferes with your memory and does not give any added benefits for your mood. So please reduce one by one slowly. Start with ativan 0.5 mg for 2 weeks and stop. Then clonazepam also 0.5 mg for 2 weeks and stop. You can use etizolam if anxiety or sleep becomes a problem temporarily for next 1 month. Please continue your mood stabilisers.

I have bipolar disorder diagnosed in 2010. I have been prescribed Lovax 300 (oxcarbazepine) two times a day as mood stabilizer. It works very well for me, except that it gives me terrible back pain especially in lower back. If I stop it in 4-5 days the back pain goes. But again when I start it the back pain returns in 4-5 days. I was given Torvate Chrono (Valproic Acid) as mood stabilizer in the past but it caused severe lethargy and sleepiness in afternoon due to high serum Ammonia levels. I can not take lithium as I have severe Diabetes and take insulin 120 units total in a day. My doctor says there is no other mood stabilizer available and Lovax (oxcarbazepine) is best mood stabilizer for me as it has min side effects. But leaves gives me horrible back pain but my Dr. does not agree that Lovax causes back pain. Can you please advise if Lovax can cause such severe back pain? Otherwise what should I do?

The psychiatrist is correct you have been given 3 best mood stabilizers and you are not able tolerate them. But wait, recent recommendations are there that if people don't tolerate mood stabilizers, low dose antipsychotics can be used as mood stabilizers. So you can try that from your psychiatrist.

Hi, My nephew is 2 years old. He had born at 8 months (premature) due to blood pressure problem of mother. At the age of 9 months old (means after 9 months he born) he suffered benisn infantile seizure. Doctor prescribed him drop called TRIOPTAL for six month duration. Now he is 2 years old by 25 Sep 2016. NOW WHEN HE FELL DOWN AND GOT HURT TO HIS MOUTH AND HEAD HE CRY A LOT AND GOES FOR (FREEZE) FOR SOME OF 2-3 sec. Is that sign of SEIZURE OR UNCONSCIOUS. He did it 3 times from last 20 days. Pls help me m very tense.

Probably he is suffering from breath holding condition. If it is breath holding, it may go on its own after some time and earlier if you do not pay attention to it. But it is better to consult pediatrician to ascertain real ailment as he suffered from seizure in infancy.

She had seizure disorder in December 2015 and she was given tab. valparin chrono 300 mg. But from jan. 2017 she had hair fall and in may 2017 she was diagnosed hypothyroidism and tab. eltroxin 50 mcg was started In nov. 2017 the medicine of seizure was changed to trioptal 450 mg. Due to seizure couldn't control I want to ask that seizure medicine can change the TSH level or hypothyroidism occurred if yes then how much time hypothyroidism will be treated. Thyroid medicine can be stopped after few year or she has to take medicine for long time.

Hypothyroidism and siezures (probably epilepsy) are tow totally different conditions. Both need to be treated with specific drugs. Treatment for seizures is invariably goes on for many years. As regards hypothyroidism, once it is diagnosed, the condition remains for lifetime. Therefore, treatment has to be continued for the whole life. At 9months we usually have febrile seizures in children. At that time did he has fever the situation

now you have described is called Breath holding spells. When the child tries to hold his breath just pinch him or give a slap on back so that he stats breathing
Give him Iron and Zinc supplements
But let some Paediatrician see the attack
so that it can be confirmed that it breath holding and not seizure.

My daughter by birth 45 days onwards she causes v p shut operation .From 8 month onward we started for development delay doing therapy .Now daughter 3 years old she causes seizure from last year may month Dr. Prescribe trioptal syrup frequently she have seizure 3 months one from 1 jan 2018 she's also sleeping disturbs .March we consult neuro Dr. He take eeg report absorb ESES Pattern he advise valarum .2.5 ml_0_2.5 ml and frisium 10 mg at night iv solumedrol 350 mg 3 week s ones 3 day infection for sleeping problems he give notucure syrup .Now she no improvement in 3 dose infection .Doctor prescribe sleeping disturbs sizodon 0.5 mg what is do i? I want to know about sizodon right for our baby.

Myself 29 male suffering from bipolar disorder & taking medication from last six years. I have taken Depakote up to 1000 mg with Oxcarbazepine 600 And also tried Depakote 1000 with qutipin200 But never got satisfactory results for hypomanic symptoms as well as depression. Now I am on lithium 300 twice with lamotrigine 50 at night and feeling very much relaxed due to lithium effectiveness in hypomanic symptoms but since I started taking lithium from last one month I am having problem of constipation and also observed hair fall. Please suggest whether these side effects will go or I should stop talking lithium.

Dear Zeeshan,
Nice to know that you feel better with lithium and lamotrigine.
Lithium is time tested effective tablet for bipolar disorder, especially for hypomania.
Constipation is NOT a side effect of lithium. On the other hand, lithium being a salt causes loose motions in few persons. Find other causes for constipation and settle them continuing lithium.
Hair fall is due to Depakote that you have taken before one month. NOT due to lithium. It will settle down by itself. Otherw...more

I have been gaining too much weight since my asd closure back in 2014 december (first year mbbs. Until then I used to have a plateau weight of max 54 kg. Now i'm 81.80 kg and since 2015 i'm on psy meds (currently on oxcarbazepine 450 and sertraline 100 - both od). I took a usg in 2017 and was diagnosed with pcos. Currently i'm trying to lose weight but futile. I would like to know if there is any supplement (other than metformin to reduce insulin resistance) which might help me accelerate the weight loss.
