Hello, Thanks for the query.
Usually thyroxine is prescribed only when TSH levels go beyond 10 mU/L, or there are troublesome symptoms of hypothyroidism are present even at lower than 10 mU/L TSH. Another situation is if her Anti TPO antibodies are more than normal then also it is prescribed. At 7.19 mU/L there is no reason to recommend Thyroxine (unless above is true). Thanks.

With 125 mcg of Levothyroxine, TSH has come down to 0.65 mU/L, which is with in normal range. But this does not mean that you can stop taking Thyroxine. This hormone needs to be take...more

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query.
Hypothyroidism is a hormone (thyroxine) deficiency disorder, where your thyroid gland is either not producing enough thyroxine (t4) or does not produce it at all. Therefore there is a need to give daily supplementation of this hormone for life time. There is no other option at all. One can not give "injectable" thyroxine as there is none. One has to take adequate amount of levothyroxine and maintain tsh around 3 to 4 mu/l, so that all the symptoms are ...more

Mr. lybrate-user, Hypothyroidism is a hormone deficiency disorder, hence there has to be a constant supplement of that hormone for lifetime. Therefore, treatment will have to go on for lifetime. If one is on treatment, then ideally TSH levels should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L, to be free from all the symptoms. Weight gain is in fact a common manifestation of hypothyroidism. So check TSH level and if it is higher than above mentioned, then there needs to be an increase in the dosage of thy...more

lybrate-user, If you are on thyroxine tablets (50 mcg), means you have hypothyroidism. It would be better if you had given total results of thyroid assay. Usually hypothyroidism leads to increased weight. Hyperthyroidism can cause weight loss. But the treatment is anti-thyroid drugs. Thanks.
