It seems you think of bp as paramount determinant of health. Measuring bp is a new phenomenon, never previously done.
It can be helpful if done as advised, but it causes plenty of difficulties if done without following the recommended methods. Correct management requires measuring it once every month or 3 months when resting comfortably and feeling ok. Measuring bp whenever one wishes too is not healthy. Bp fluctuates in everybody every day. It may be 170 when climbing stairs, or only 80 whe...more

Please continue amlodipine same 5 mg dose as your bp is just controlled. People with diabetes need strict control of bp as high bp and diabetes both can cause proteinuria (protein leak in urine). Infact, get urine albumin/creatinine ratio to check for proteinuria. Reduce salt intake and watch your weight.
Please call me if you have any further queries.
Thank you.

Mr. Lybrate-user, the medicines being taken are quite safe, hence can be continued for long time. Whether for life time is difficult to answer. Because as one get old, blood glucose control varies. Similarly kidney function may get affected due to diabetes itself.
