Dear lybrate user, 'antipsychotic' is an umbrella term which covers a large number of symptoms that are common in many psychiatric problems. Hence, doctors prescribe these drugs. Just like salt can be used for many food items, a particular medicine can be used to treat many medical conditions. Stick to your doctor's prescription without any hesitation.

Dear lybrate-user,
Riscon is Risperidone. It is not available as 5 mg tablet. Of course riscon increases weight. You need to do dieting and exercise to avoid weight gain. Just stopping riscon alone may not reduce your weight to 47 kg. Consult a dietician.
If doctor has adviced to stop those tablets, prepare yourself for a relapse and restart the tablets.

The psychiatrist has suggested correctly about the medication. Low dose sizodon (risperidone) is used for children with autism and behavioral problems. Try to get hold of a mot pediatrics (pediatric occupational therapist) and a team of psychiatrist/ clinical psychologist/ ot and speech therapist for multimodal treatment of autism. Good luck.

Risperidone is the right medication if it was psychosis. It controls symptoms of psychosis and helps with sleep etc. If you think you have improved and feeling benefits continue with it but it has to be monitored by the psychiatrist regularly for any side effects. So it is good for you if the original diagnosis was right and the side effects always has to be balanced with benefits of taking it.

Dear Arti,
At the outset, i will tell you about quality of life years. WHO mentions for this millennium, it is not death rate, but quality of life years that matters as outcome of treatment. Please think about 50 years of life with active interest or 100 years of cursing life daily.
Both depakote and risperidone don't reduce your life span by themselves. They are NOT poisons - not even slow poison like cigarettes or sedentary life. Both of them cause weight gain that in turn causes sug...more

hi,

your daughter is 7 yrs old . assuming that she is more than 20 kgs we have to calculate the dosage. in your query it is mentioned as hypertension , but i think it is hyperactivity .

risperidone is generally safe in children. the dosage you mentioned is from drops . it is better to give tablet in 7 yrs of age . we have to start from lower dose (0.5 mg ) and we should increase gradually to reach the desired goal.

the common side effect will be sleepiness. so you c...more

The medications are fine, but your hallucinations are not controlled. So you need a revision of prescription, consult your psychiatrist. He will be able to help u. If all 4 years the symptoms have not remitted, with adequate dosage, there are medications for resistant hallucinations. All the best.

Dear Sir Thank you for your query.
A lot of people with schizophrenia have to take more than one medicine at a time. The treatment prescribed to a person depends on a lot of factors like the severity of illness and response to medications. More than one medicine can be taken at a time for schizophrenia. However, the medications should be taken as prescribed by your psychiatrist. So please continue the Medication as prescribed by your psychiatrist as he is aware of your history and if you hav...more
