Most of the drugs for cough cold and headache prescription. Will have side effect of gastritis due to formation of excess acid in stomach. Ranitidine is an H2 blocker agent, prevent acid formation. You should take it twice daily in empty stomach, till you are taking analgesic or antipyretic drug.

You should not take these tablets unless there is a genuine need for it. If you can manage your health with healthy habits (healthy lifestyle) then you would hardly need any medications. It is always safe to visit a doctor whenever you have any health problems and avoid unnecessary medications (without prescription) which can become habit forming.
