Dear Manjeet,
It is really pathetic to see your father suffering like this.
However your doctor seems to be trying few medicines to make him peaceful and sleep better. Be patient and wait for the drugs to work.
Since he is already dementing, he does not need much sleep. As age advances, one needs less time for sleep.
A bright light like day time and warmth will help sometimes - worth trying.

However it is advisable that you consult a psychiatrist in person to decide any form of treatment too be improvised.
Also it is would be prudent to reconsider the diagnosis too if you still face the same problems in spite of taking regular medications.
Consult online for any further ...more

It is helpful that he continues hiss medication but he needs to do some therapy too to eradicate his behaviors. Meet with a counselor as soon as possible. Please take his parents with him to determine the possible developmental issues that may have contributed to this condition. This is a fear-based condition and for some reason he has not been dealing with this childhood fear which has now developed unto these repetitive adaptations to seem to need it for normal functioning. The behavior will t...more

Dear lybrate-user,
taking medicines for the long term and no improvement needs a review of diagnosis. Now that we know her counts reduced. We need to know why it is reduced. If it is drug-induced, it will recover after stopping the drug. Bone marrow test will not show that it is drug-induced. But the report will show the type of count reduction, like neutropenia. Except for clozapine, other psychiatric drugs (mirtaz, qutipin and tofisopam) rarely cause low blood count. In clozapine, the psyc...more

Quetiapine is an antipsychotic with marked sedative effects. Losing balance may be attributable to quetiapine, but without knowing the full background, I cannot confirm. Pacitane is used to treat tremors induced by drugs or other diseases such as Parkinsons disease. Benfomet is vitamin B1 so it cant cause these symptoms. Please give us full details of your father's condition so that we can help you better. Please bear in mind that excessive sleepiness and dizziness in the elderly is very dangero...more

Relax dear Lybrate user. First of all let me know long have you been taking quitipin as how is the benefit. As you are already having anxiety issues, it is not advisable to think or try to quit smoking because it might increase your anxiety levels and therefore you might fail in both (treatment for anxiety and smoking sensation). Relax. Just try to cut down the no. Of cigarettes to half of your present nos. Get treatment for anxiety issues with a psychiatrist and also a psychologist because it s...more
