About Prolomet Xl 50 MG Tablet XL

The primary use of Prolomet Xl 50 MG Tablet XL is to treat hypertension and angina pectoris. It is also prescribed as a preventive measure to treat myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, flutter, and symptomatic treatment of hypertrophic subaortic stenosis.

Prolomet Xl 50 MG Tablet XL is prescribed to patients to improve heart function and control blood flow through the vessels. The drug helps in the treatment of hypertension, that is, high blood pressure and angina, that is, chest pain.

Prolomet Xl 50 MG Tablet XL effectively blocks the action of a few body chemicals that occur naturally in the body. The medicine can be taken either before or after a meal. The dosage of the drug depends on the severity of the condition. The doctor may increase dosage as per requirement.

Over dosage of Prolomet Xl 50 MG Tablet XL should be avoided. In case of accidental overdosage emergency medical care should be acquired. Patients with certain medical problems are generally not advised to take this drug. The medicine is not recommended for patients who have coronary heart disease or blood circulation issues.

In case of a missed drug dose, it should be taken as soon as possible. However, avoid taking the missed dose along with the next dose as it may lead to complications.

Symptoms of intoxication include cardiac disturbances, CNS toxicity, bronchospasm, hypoglycemia and hyperkalemia. The most common cardiac symptoms include hypotension and bradycardia; atrioventricular block, intraventricular conduction disturbances, cardiogenic shock, and asystole may occur with severe overdose, especially with membrane-depressant drugs (eg, propranolol); CNS effects include convulsions, coma, and respiratory arrest.

Treatment includes symptomatic treatment of seizures, hypotension, hyperkalemia and hypoglycemia; bradycardia and hypotension resistant to atropine, isoproterenol or pacing, may respond to glucagon; wide QRS defects caused by the membrane-depressant poisoning may respond to hypertonic sodium bicarbonate; repeat-dose charcoal, hemoperfusion, or hemodialysis may be helpful in removal of only those beta-blockers with a small Vd, long half-life or low intrinsic clearance (acebutolol, atenolol, nadolol, sotalol).

        • Hydralazine may enhance the bioavailability of Prolomet Xl 50 MG Tablet XL.
        • Insulin and oral hypoglycemics: Prolomet Xl 50 MG Tablet XL may mask tachycardia from hypoglycemia.
        • Prolomet Xl 50 MG Tablet XL reduces antipyrine's clearance by 18%.
        • NSAIDs (ibuprofen, indomethacin, naproxen, piroxicam) may reduce the antihypertensive effects of beta-blockers.
        • Oral contraceptives may increase the AUC and Cmax of Prolomet Xl 50 MG Tablet XL.
        • Salicylates may reduce the antihypertensive effects of beta-blockers.
        • Sulfonylureas: Beta-blockers may alter response to hypoglycemic agents.
        • Verapamil or diltiazem may have synergistic or additive pharmacological effects when taken concurrently with beta-blockers; avoid concurrent I.V. use.
        • Amlodipine, Diltiazem, Aminophylline, Ergotamine also interacts with this medicine, thus should be avoided.

        Prolomet Xl 50 MG Tablet XL should be used with caution if you are taking vitamin and mineral supplement.
